That's a hard question. It does not have a typical 'squash' taste at all.
Mostly it picks up the flavors of what you put with it, but to me it has a
faint buttery, nutty flavor and is very juicy when cooked. If you have any
Mexican type markets near you, you probably can find it there. Plant one in
a sunny, well-watered spot and it might grow for you. As you can see in the
video, they can get to be pretty big.
We grow these here in Australia and they are called choko pronounced
chO-co. Never tried it with cheese, will do next time. They are delicious
we use them in pickles, and sometimes as an extender in apple pies because
they are a perfect vehicle for carrying the apple flavours and a similar in

My mom used to cook it with the skin, which is edible (when you take the
skin out you just loose too much of it) and make it as salad with spring
onions and black pepper, olive oil and salt. Hmmmmmm... I still remember
it, so delicious!

Great video. I haven't eaten a chayote stir-fry in over 20 years. I think
my parents made it with pork, but I can't remember now. It was one of the
few "vegetables" that I could tolerate when I was young. LOL! I learned
something new about baking soda and chicken! And I'm glad you showed how to
