Tree of Savior: Impressions/Review ► Is Tree of Savior Like Ragnarok Online?
Thoughts on Tree of Savior based on the playtime I've had in this first international closed beta. I bring up Ragnarok Online a lot because this game shares so ...
if you play/played disgaea then this grind will nothing compared to
grinding 9999 levels then reincarnating back to 1 then doin it about
amillion more times just to get that final teir to 9999 maxed stats. also
you then have to grinding item world which has just as many levels. So this
grind to 600 will be nothing for us disgaea fans. pfft 600 , dont make me
laugh. love me some grind!!
Holy fuck I LOVE how they're keeping it hard like the old rag, grindy kind
of but fuck those were the days RO was one of the best games ive ever
played. When you saw someone at 99 decked out ohhh yeah you know they had
earned it
So really man?, grinding mindlessly for hours on end to level up one time
is a huge nono, old school leveling is what killed many mmos back then, I'm
guessing this game will have a small community and die off later in time
and its sad too since BnS is coming out right next to this, it looks great
it gives me that FF tactics art feel, but the endless Korean grinding is a
MAJOR turn off since its basically going to be filled with bots.
+ChromedioxideVS age might mean "shit", but the player base does, RO's player base pales in comparison to WoW's player figures. I don't hate grinding games I made that perfectly clear, but the fact remains, the western side of the gaming community at least the majority do not go into these types of games in droves. I hope I made myself clear since it was the point I was trying to elaborate the whole time I been commenting in this post.
+Richard AlcalaAnd Ragnarok Online, known as one of the first big grinding games, is over 12 years old and has a comunity which return to this game over and over because they have too many positive memories with it.The age of the game means a shit.
+Richard Alcala i'm not mad, and if you're going to call somebody a kid, atleast have the decency to fucking paragraph your comment so it's readable or else nobody will bother taking you seriously. you do know that just because "questing" ends doesn't mean the grind ends, right? everything you do in end-game is considered grind, there is no difference between farming e.g mythic archimonde and farming trash mobs out in the open world. they're both forms of grinding.like i said, you're nothing but an achievement dependent kid who needs instant gratification and carrot on a stick incentives. that's not how MMOs used to play out but unfortunately due to the rise of extreme casuals who wants to make progress in the 1hr they play, it's what it has turned into.
+ChromedioxideVS just because wow has been successful for 9 years doesn't mean anyone who played is a "WoW faggot", if you don't like standards, future release games will look grim if gamers like us hold games at lower standards than games that are still making the best money today.
+wilderwolf Wow take it easy kid, no need for all the childish name calling. You don't have to get mad, by mindless grinding what I mean is it doesn't change nor is there an end to the specific type of grinding in these games. For instance in questing games the questing ends, and the gear acquisition begins, then come dailies then come events then come raids, then come LFG....... while this type of game killing monsters constantly till hopefully you reach cap is all there is, other than hanging with your friends and fighting repeatable bosses. I don't dislike this type of game but I tend to drop these mmos in a matter of a week or two. That's my opinion, in questing, at least I can reach level cap and not worry about advancing level wise, the new progression is endgame, fighting the last bosses of the game, acquiring the best looking / performance gear, while this type of game almost never offers endgame nor a way to continue progressing your character, that is if you actually get to the 600s level........ but again my opinion no need to come into this post raging.
+Richard Alcala that's literally what you do in every single fucking MMORPG out right now.Questing isn't somehow not "mindless" just because you follow whatever some generic shitstain NPC says, telling you to pick up some fucking bullshit crap he dropped because he is suffering from mental retardation. You're basically what's wrong with modern MMOs and why developers keep catering to kids like you. Typical achievement hunting, trophy kid who couldn't care less about anything else other than his gearscore and dps parser.
+ChromedioxideVS I'm not specifically talking about ToS because I haven't played it. Try to have a nice life, will ya? Also, study up on understanding what other people are talking about, you don't seem to get it yet.
You know a shit about the end content of ToS because its in beta state. So ofc its all about to level up, lel.Typcial WoW faggot complains because a game is not like WoW, awesome.
+ChromedioxideVS It's kind of stupid to assume that hardcore genres are better because they're more boring or are more like doing a job instead of playing a game. MMOs shouldn't have a feeling like you're doing a job instead of having fun, because just like with the job you end up wondering why you're even doing it because the amount of money you're being paid isn't enough to justify how much work you did. WoW is fun because the armor you get at high levels feels epic and you can brag to your friends once you get there, and instances are kinda fun (never played raids, im assuming theyre fun), but if I were to force myself to play a less popular MMO it would feel like a job because there would be noone to brag to. So, MMOs need to act like they're not popular and have a reason to play OTHER than leveling up because leveling up is just to show off and that's it, it's not actually that fun.
+Richard Alcala The nice thing about RO is the amount of EXP bosses give, you don't necessarily have to grind to max. Grinding in RO is also very different and necessary since many items drop rates are much lower than other games (0.01%). TOS seems to be a bit too slow to be compared to RO though, and grinding TOS looks boring as all hell.
+somot olovo i hope there is a wiki that warns players, or at least the company warns gamers to avoid situations where they use their cards unknowingly screwing themselves.
+Richard Alcala it depends how u pass the game, if u dont save cards for specific levels ur fucked, if u know how to travel u dont have to do that many grindin.
+Irvan Sanjaya you mean the hours of mindless grinding for several months?, oh no worries brother I do understand I have been there and I have experienced it. I understand people say its being with friends that is 50% the experience, but it ends there for me, I would like 100%, 50% friends 50% game, I want both equally as enjoyable and sadly I wont stick around these games that you grind the same mobs thousands of times to achieve one measly level.
+Richard Alcala i really grind from 45 to 52, and from 74 to 81 then i find that i forgot some quest cuz the game really lacks of orientation and some people think they have all the quests on his way and they dont, and from lvl 90 i just go to a specific dungeon, lvl 100 dungeons are really hard and seems challenging.I think the game needs more dungeon betwen level 50 and 90 , and maybe in the future add more dungeons.but i forgot....one time the game was bugged and i get tons of experience betwen lvl 85 and 89 xD
+Richard Alcala is not like that, i have a lvl 105 now, and i grind like 2 levels only, most of the time i lvl up with quest and dungeons, grindin is the less that i do.
+Fade Away That's exactly the thing I said in an earlier comment, that the sense of community is astronomically more important than just about anything else in an MMO. Yeah, with RS, I've really only gotten to combat level 68 in the entire time I've played it, I never cared too much because there was this feeling that every time I leveled up I was getting better instead of "every time I level up, I'm getting less sucky" it's kind of a glass half full/empty kind of thing.
+MrFreeman012 Who said you have to grind or reach a Max level in ToS either? Do you have any idea how much time poeple spent on RS to get a completionist cape? (Neither do you have to in RS) Years over years. You could probably get max level in ToS in less that six month and strong attraction for me about ToS is that there's a lot of player interaction. A sense of community I guess.
+MrFreeman012 From what I have seen from lets plays from this game is that it takes you hours and hours to level 1 level at 60+, that's probably where i will quit hopefully Blade and Soul will be out by then which i bet it will be out the same time this game launches.
+MrFreeman012 I agree with that. It's not that you have to reach the highest level in a month or something. You just enjoy leveling up and why should it ever end. Grinding is perfect combined with other things like watching a movie or your favorite series. You don't just sit on the couch but also are a little bit productive. You can't do such multitasking if you need to concentrate on a complex raid.
+Richard Alcala I think hardcore MMO gamers can be re translated as "miserable loners who think their loot is better than a human interaction."All this said, grinding for hours just to get to level 35 out of 600 seems just A TEEEEENY bit drastic ;P runescape is great cuz you absolutely do not care about your loot and level, you care more about your gold and the fun quests (which are actually fun, something that is unique only to runescape apparently) Im talking about oldschool runescape here though. You can just chop down trees with your buddy for hours talking about stuff and joking with people, thats what an MMO should be all about. So, basically, hopefully this game makes it easy not to care that it takes a long time to level up, because hopefully leveling up itself will be a fun process.
+Richard Alcala I don't enjoy ANY MMO that I play alone, a feeling of utter loneliness develops and it becomes pointless and no amount of better design decisions regarding quests and loot will fix it. ONLY playing with a group of friends makes an MMO enjoyable to me, either that or fix every bodies anti-social mindset and maybe ppl won't be afraid to help each other out in MMOs, my best memories in WoW are from my guild, not my gear and my level, my WORST memories were from instances and whatnot where competition and stress was high.
+Richard Alcala Asian games are probably grind centered because their culture promotes a sense of community, the reason you find it boring is because you're lonely and don't know how to have fun with friends. That's what I'm told made RO so good, it's community.
+Fade Away First off, you mentioned one mmo that has mob grind (I never played runescape so I don't know) but like 99% of Korean mmos have mob grind. Secondly, the huge difference between games like Wildstar and Rift, is that in games like those, the struggle to get more levels never ends, along with the struggle to get more gear and more gear that ultimately you will keep replacing over and over and over since you will always be a noob till you hit the level cap and do the what ever endgame that game has. While in games like Wildstar, the leveling struggle ends and the gear obtaining struggle gets more interesting and more challenging. And then the biggest difference is "Time", you can play this game right now and I can play Wild star or Rift right now, and by the time you hit the noob level of 200 ( I read that this game has 600 levels.....) I can be capped in either of those games have epic gear and look bad ass since endgame gear looks aesthetically better than leveling gear, and I would be near the top raiding content admiring my characters presence........ while you are still stuck doing the same thing since level one. There really is nothing wrong with it I'm just saying since my first comment, these games do poorly in the west, ESPECIALLY since Blade and Soul is coming right next to this game and its a Quest based game not a mob grind based....... ill still try Tree of Savior either way.
+Richard Alcala I honestly don't understand why grinding is only associated with K-MMOs. Have you seen RuneScape? And how are Western MMOs like Wildstar or Rift any different? Instead of grinding mobs, you raid all day. Hooray?
+Richard Alcala I don't know if it is a minority in the west but the big player base of the planet lives in asia so it makes sense they chose them over "us". I personally think everyone can enjoy a grinder if it is made correctly and I hope tree of saviors achieves that,
+Richard Alcala Let's just say, different strokes for different blokes. There's no 'best' or 'worst' game. It's subjective and up to you. People HATE how grindy Runescape is but I love it.
+Razeel There's no problem you liking it rofl, but my point is they aren't very popular in the west, the fan base for grinding mobs mmos is a minority.
+Richard Alcala Just think of it as a shooter game. All you do is kill other people all day long. It should be boring aswell without questing but people keep playing it because they want to be better than others. So if you want to have a successful grinding game you must include dangerous pvp areas where everyone can kill each other. Gringing games are usually more centered arround the pvp and if they don't or pvp just sucks they will lose players quickly because all the grinding is senseless. That's just my opinion though. My favorite mmo of all time is actually a korean grinding game called KalOnline. It was so rediculous with dungeons where all kinds of mobs (enhanced versions) from the outside world just spawned in rooms and all you did was stand in a single room and kill them for days and weeks just to make a single level up. It was like a training room and you waited patiently on the Castle War on Saturday where you can show off your new gained strength and equiptment.
+Razeel well sadly the fan base for mindless grinding of mobs is the minority in western community..... that's why those types of games do well at start and then drop fast because games with mob grind games they start out as quest based mmos then fall in later levels when players realize its a korean mindless grind, just an observation.
+Richard Alcala You missunderstand grinding games then. Some people are just satisfied by killing thousands of monsters with a tiny chance of dropping good gear. Questing for me is a pain in the a** for example- I hate it and never read the text. I actually wonder if there is somebody out there who reads all of it. I just want to level up my character and grind good gear, on my own. I don't want to rely on others to get something done. I am better than the rest. However, such games have a high risk of bots apearing. If i see a game has problems with botting i leave. it's just unfair and lame.
+ExileTwilight sadly thou, in mindless grind games, i can guarantee you i will hit cap lvl and farm epic gear before you even hit half way into the grinding mode games....... and to me that is utter fail, the game is basically leveling till to get bored and uninstall.
+Richard Alcala Personally I prefer mindless farming over the "run to this place, talk to this guy, get 10 wolf skins, run back to this guy. Now go over here, repeat." quests that most mmo's do since WoW :/
You don't understand the accomplishment of grinding months to hit level 99 in Ragnorak. Then you get those sick aura for being max level and show it off to everyone in town. What made Ragnorak different then all other mmo, you do not have to be max level in order to be the best player.
+Fevir I have grinded in games to lvl before, I just don't want it to be the ONLY way to level, if they had questing and grind lvling and pvp grind lvling I think it would do well as a mmo in todays expectations of mmos. I am just worried man, I have seen your reviews and you said it takes you a few hours to lvl once at lvl 35.......and you said the cap is 600 so it will take you a few years to hit that shit lol.... I like the look of the game love it, I just think I'm going to play itto 30 ish and then drop it like a pile of bricks.
+Richard Alcala I think the audience for this game is mainly people who played RO and are fine or are looking for that korean grind- not for everyone.. probably not for me
