gotta love those cheap, scratchy Jeep plastics....
Is it worth simply upgrading the factory speakers, as the previous owner
fitted a half decent stereo, or should junk the entire thing and start
over?
Cheers dude! I just bought an '05 AWD Verada and the effen lower centre
tray in front of the cup holder was driving me insane. The previous owner
had an i-douche phone holder screwed in behind it rendering the passengers
cup holder useless. That tray (not ash tray on 05 SII Verada) is bloody
stiff and the plastic was bending and I was thinking what to do now ???
Well good ole YouTube (you not withstanding) saved the day :).
I was waiting for the snap on the trim removal lol. good job. I normally
disconnect the fresh air mixer cable from the back of the center air vents
and remove the vents to make the top screws removal easier, but then again,
that cable can be a pain in the ass to disconnect also. :)
@1primacron "I was waiting for the snap on the trim removal lol." Yep, that
can happen, though that 1 you heard was the 1st ever after pulling this out
many times. Just gotta be a bit careful @ this point, I'd become complacent
=8(
this looks almost exactly like my Diamante 03, except everything is
reversed. So for anyone searching for this video, it also applies to a 2003
Mitsubishi Diamante, the American version of the same car.
Great video, thanks. Would add one comment re "hardest part of removal"
which is getting at the nut behind the radio to unattach from Y shaped
metal retainer. You don't need to. It's much easier to remove the two
nuts anchoring the Y shaped retainer bracket to the dash as you've
illustrated and then simply bend the retainer. Approach from the top and
bend the two arms of the retainer inward i.e. towards each other a bit,
they're surprisingly pliable. Then one can slide the old radio out the
front while rotating upward slightly and it's free with said Y shaped
bracket still attached to back of radio! Much easier.
Thanks for the video. Did the microphone do well in that location or did
you end up moving it?

This was spot-on helpful! My son had stuck a coin in the CD player and it
wouldn't play past track 8 for the last year. Pulled the stereo using a
plastic bicycle tire pry tool, then used a small allen's wrench to unscrew
the star bolts holding the metal casing of the player for which I didn't
have the right tool again. The coin dropped right out and now the CD player
works perfectly!! Thanks, Boblizcou
The radio unit on my Grand Cherokee (1999) only produces static now.
Happened after a visit to mechanic's shop. Have checked fuses, antenna,
etc. (but never pulled unit out) and battery has been disconnected numerous
times since ... still no radio. Cassette tape plays fine. Any suggestions
what to try next to get radio to play again? It's a mystery! Thx...

Hey Dan, nice jeep if your looking for maximum range from that cb I'd get a
9ft steel whip with a ball and sping or some other mount. The loaded glass
whip isn't bad but
I have found over the years the 9ft whip is the bomb if you can run it on
your jeep. Also don't for get to check your SWR if you can adj the antenna
this will help with range also and save on your finals in the radio. P.S. I
miss your Lincoln man.
Thanks for the tip! Honestly I'm not looking for huge range out of it. I'm mostly using it to keep in quick contact with my buddies when we're out wheeling or cruising. I like the bigger whips but I hate getting em caught on trees while on trails, which I haven't had an issue with the firestik. I tuned up the SWR right after the video and got 1.2 on 1 and 1.4 on 40, which I'm pretty happy with. I still get about 4 miles of range out of it which my brother and I tested one day, which is perfectly fine with me. And to be honest, I miss the Lincoln too. That thing was so much fun and it turned heads everywhere I went. I still do get to see it every day though :)
