hey guys i would just like to tell you that your channel is honestly one of
the best channels ive ever seen. great quality, editing and well explained
information keep up the good work guys :)
Hey +Lachlan Rogers, thanks for the feedback, its appreciated, we are very glad to hear that you have been enjoying our videos and channel.Cheers DIY GUYS
Good job guys. Couple of points to add.
Before tightening up the steering knuckle bolts, ensure you push the top of
the disc towards the strut, so the camber adjusting bolt located at the
top of the steering knuckle is hard up against the strut before tightening
the bolts. Otherwise the wheel alignments camber will be out. This bolt
should have been hard up against the old strut as well before it was
removed, if all was well beforehand.
However it's a good idea to get a wheel alignment done anyway. Between
possible old bent struts and collapsed upper bearing mounts hats alignment
could be out.
Cheers, Uncle Archie.
Hi thanks for the video, one quick question if I may. At around 1:55 in you
start popping the clips to pull the door card away after the screws are
removed. Are those clips reusable and if so is there a technique to help
prevent breaking them? If they're not reusable or if they tend to sometimes
break can I get some replacements from you guys?
+BartBart22 Hi Bart, we recommend taking your time and going slow when removing the door panel clips. Unfortunately, we do not have door panel clips for the Passat right now, but our door panel removal tool can help with the process. You can find it here: //www.1aauto.com/door-panel-removal-tool/i/1abmx00050?m=425&y=1999 . Hope this helps
First of all why would anyone WANT to remove that body side molding in the
first place unless part of it was damaged and needed replacing?! Since
those things were put on at the factory wisely to keep from idiots in
parking lots smacking their car door against the finish and dinging the
paint! I had those things specially added for extra cost on my new 2012 300
AWD Limited because the factory was too cheap to put them on in the first
place!
@aliens300c Yeah i thought about doing that, but i have hard plastic with
chome side moldings on my 300C so you can't really remove them. I do have a
question: do you know how to remove the trunk emblem (wing). Because i saw
an LED Chrysler wing on the net that acts like a brake light. I want to buy
it but you've got to replace the stock emblem and i don't really know how
to remove it without doing some damage.
Nope, WD40 & Goo Gone have no effect on your paint, However. An older
vehicle's paint has faded over time, removing the moulding will show the
fresh paint behind it. you will end up with a line down the side of your
car. Also, some vehicles have holes under the mouldings. so be very
careful, do your research.. I actually suggest against it on an older
vehicle.
I just started on my 2006 Charger R/T I had bubbles on the first door and I
stopped in fear for all of my doors doing the same. I used fishing line and
did a saw like motion. It worked the best was fast and no need to worry
bout scratching your paint. Idk if i'll continue mine because of the heat
cooking the paint that was underneath it.
Or you can just get fishing line suck it behind the door trim work best
fishing line back and forth like a saw remove the sticky stuff left behind
with goof off or rubbing alcohol then bust out the Hayes with any car wax.
I did my charger all 4 doors all steps in 15 to 20 minutes, it didn't take
no hour and a half for 2 doors lol
@HeraldOfHypo Dude, That's the way it's been done for years. *everyone* I
know has used this method, It doesn't mess with the paint at all, It's not
like your spraying it on there and leaving it for hours. I had no issues
with it on my vehicle, the numerous people in my car club have had no
issue. Don't poop on the Parade, dude.
I put some body side molding I ordered on my new G37 and they made it look
like crap! After 5 weeks I couldn't take it anymore and went looking for
how to remove them. Used this technique and it worked like a charm! Done in
20 minutes total! Anybody want to buy some cheap "Moonlight White' side
moldings for a G37 Coupe - LOL
I'm pretty sure they will be useless, although if you really needed to you
could put new 3m tape on and re-apply them. but chances are they wouldn't
look right. you have to be careful too. some vehicles have holes under the
moldings. Chargers, Challengers, Magnums and 300's don't have holes.
why are you doing this? i had a car with this stuff (it was a corolla) and
i was crazy looking for this shit (the originals, not copies or fakes
ones)the factory ones were expensive because IS HARD TO FIND, and i see
this, dude that shit cost money (a little but something is something) fuck
@zeroxstrife250 Well, the removal process is the same yes, but you've gotta
be careful to make sure you don't have holes under your car's moldings.
some cars have holes some don't.. check online to make sure you don't have
any before you remove the molding.
amazing video. thanks. just removed the moulding off my 300. wouldnt
recommend the hair dryer, could damage or etch the paint from the left over
3M tape, wd-40 works great, use it on left over tape. excellent
instructions in this video!!
Hey man great tip. I just finished taking my side mouldings off and it
looks great. I also used a blow dryer to heat the adheasive and it helped
the moulding come off much better. Thanks for the help bro. Really
appreciate it.
Use some Maxx Solve to get any of the junk left on it and then use some
compound and then a coat of a good wax over the area. A light compound
should take it out. I work at a Chrysler dealership so I have done this
before.
looks very good on your car. I have a 300 touring as well and the side
molding is chrome I think it looks better with it on only because my car is
black...btw would you know where to get chrome door handle covers?
@HeraldOfHypo uhh.. I wouldnt use the spackle tool.. but wtf is wrong with
WD40 and Goo Gone? are you retarded? The contaminants in rain and on the
road probably do more to your vehicles paint job.
just lift it off a little bit then pull on it ..no need for wd40 ..the use
rubber wheel eraser we call it ..erases the left over double side tape
residue ..and ooh wicked clown said hi ..lol
i took the moldings off of my silverado i left my truck out in the sun all
day on a hot summer day and then removed the moldings it helped alot and
saved me alot of time
Dont spray fucking WD40 on your car, and a fucking spackle tool and FUCKING
GOO GONE!? This is everything you DONT want to get onto your car paint.
goddamn.
I'm doing it because it gives the car a cleaner look, if you look at my
other videos, I've painted my car and turned it into a beastly monster of a
beast :P
Just some speculation into this, I have the 300c with the chrome trim. its
just seated ontop of time like yours so both can be removed with the same
method
It worked with the exception that it striped the paint on one side , there
is still black residue that googone won't get rid of , what else can I use ?
when your car is in the supermarket parking lot and someone smashes their
door into yours or a shopping cart you will wish you had these on it
