Installing a Pioneer DEH-P9400BH Head Unit into a 99 VW Beetle
I am not a stereo installation professional, but my install is apparently working correctly, and neither my my car nor my stereo turned into a smoldering crater.
Ah cool! OK, well 1 x 12" is plenty to be honest....although as i'm a
bass-a-holic i really wanted to get 2 in there, but there wasn't a good
solution that i could find. The box size for 2 x 12"'s where i wanted it to
go (behind the rear seat) would mean that to get the internal size right,
the box would come up to the bottom of the back window...which isn't a huge
deal, but if i did that i would then mean i didn't have anywhere to locate
my rear 'full range' speakers....so i opted out.
@Tabossco Hi Tabossco, and thanks for taking the time to comment! Ok,
luckily for me, this is just a 'hobby car' and not a daily driver. I have
the biggest battery i could physically put under the rear seat, and if i
charge it just before a vw show, it will happily run for about 3 or 4 hours
until the sub amp starts cutting out. I carry a spare 'starter battery' on
the opposite side under the rear seat just in case it drains to the point
that i can't start the car!
At some point i *might* look at housing a 15" instead of a 12"...but as i
don't drive it as a daily, other things have priority with my money :) I
love tinkering with it though, it's great fun! But yeah, i reckon you'd be
happy with 1 x 12" :) Just make sure the box dimensions are spot on and it
will sing :) Good luck, and make sure you upload a vid when done!
I had 2 10" pioneer subs in the back of my 66' and it was too much even for
me. It also could have been the position they were in. They were facing up
at the rear window and I was always paranoid that my window was gonna blow
out. The seal was old so it did crumble the rubber a little bit. lol
get a 6 channel amp for good sound or for shitter sound wire the speakers
to the head unit and get a 2 channel amp for the sub only. but make sure
you have a head unit that can support 6 channels if you go the 6 channel
route
Sound great i wanna up grade my sound system. please explain how you are
powering this with a 30 amp generator when your amps are drawing almost 100
amps. Is your charging system still hold up?
