Sorry, but an 'A' for effort is ridiculous. Maybe if he would have put a
little effort into know facts, he might get an 'A', but not knowing the
difference between the Army and the Marines is huge. That's about as
accurate as saying Ira Hayes was a white German and raised a flag on Mt.
McKinley during the Battle of the Bulge.
OH BOY...THOSE INDIANS WERE SO SMART...THEY BUILT TENTS , AND MADE
FIRE....AND SCALPED SOME WHITES AT TIMES....THEY SURE DO DESERVE AN ENTIRE
CONTINENT
In Ira's time he was an American who happened to be an Indian, that shit is
flipped on it's head today. I don't give a rats ass what you identify as,
if you aren't an American first then you are the problem.
Whoa! For certified program manager analyst, you sure have a lot of anger. By the way, the government office that I work for usually look for program management training but I don't think I would recommend you. Have a good day.
+Comrade Pilgrim you don't have to justify or rationalize your surrender, it was accepted...you can always quit, you have been taught that...but once you quit, getting back into the fight is almost impossible...for quitters
Call it what you want, because frankly I don't give two shits. If you think I do then you are very, very mistaken.Enjoy the rest of your Saturday arguing with teenagers about... Fuckin'... Bernie Sanders or some shit. Whatever makes you happy.
I'd try and make an argument, but the point of an argument is to try and sway the other side to your side. It's clear there's no doing that here, cause you got your mind dead-set on what you believe, which frankly I believe makes no sense whatsoever. It'll just turn into a "Hey, look at me, I can shout louder than you" match, which will get everyone nowhere fast. And I don't wanna do that. I got more important things to do than argue with people on the internet over nothing.
+Comrade Pilgrim it is. Islam will take over America soon, so the residents who are not Muslims will be forced to convert or die...the ones who surrender, cower to the conquerer and convert to Islam will be referred to as "Native Muslims". To think there was no one occupying these lands before the Indians have no concept of human development
N-no.. No it really isn't...Like at all.I really wanna believe that what you're saying is a joke, because I don't wanna believe that anybody could actually legitimately believe that.
I called them indians, I never used the term "native" and none of my friends us that term either. It would be like calling the current residents of this land "native muslims"
this is a great tribute, I will be attending the 71st anniversary of the
flag raising in sacaton, az. IRA Hayes is a relative of mine. a park is
named after him in the center of town.

you are from America, thank Ira for giving you the "Freedom" to voice your
opinion! jmo
+Kezia Hutabarat Hey bud. I think disliking a song like this is more of a thing that says you disagree with what he has done for our country. If you dont like the beat or whatever thats fine. but just pass through and dont give it an upvote or downvote. leave it be, for respect for those who have fought and died for our country. These men all deserve the upmost repect and giving it a thumbs down is in a way disgracing. Thats just my opinion though. thank the lord I live in America where I have that option.

+Kezia Hutabarat Heh idiot! It's not about the melody, it's about a Pima Indian who went to war so you could have the freedom to say what you want to say here. Show Mr. Hays some respect.
oh bitch please, you're the first one to judge. It seems that you forgot that disliking a song wholly is different with disliking a song partially. And damn right it's okay to dislike this song.
So it is my fault to pay attention to the musical tune? Oh please, there's a different between disliking a song wholly and disliking only for lyrics. I will ask you again: is it wrong to dislike a song? Is there a morality or law in music taste? Besides, Ira isn't the only hero in WWII. There are people called Churchill and Turing.
I was implying that the song was much more than a musical tune. I thought this was obvious. Apparently, you did not get the song's significance nor my meaning.
+egglot12 "Do you get it yet?" It implies that you somehow thought that I'm shallow or don't have any knowledge about music or any other form of art."How should I know what exactly you know based on one sentence..." implies that you judged me based on one comment but you realize that you misjudged me. No, I don't judge you. I'm simply stating the truth of your ignorance.
Unfortunately, you can't take your own advice. You don't know me either, yet you have passed judgement on me with your numerous obscenities. I never claimed to know you in the first place. I never said you don't appreciate other things. You are really not making much sense. My assessment of your comments: immaturity and easily angered.
+egglot12 As a matter of fact, if you don't know me, then don't judge me and making yourself look like a morron. And just what exactly you know about people who dislike this song? Does by disliking this song a person can't appreciate any art, history, or culture?
How should I know what exactly you know based on one sentence you posted that asked a question? Lol at you acting tough over the internet throwing curse words around! Are you 10 years old?
+egglot12 I know, shithead. I just don't enjoy the melody. Is it a deadly crime for this song not on my cup of tea list? Hey dickhead, I can dislike this song but appreciate Miyazaki, van Gogh, Chopin, Lennon, and any other artists.
+Kezia HutabaratC'mon, this is way more than just a song. Justin Beiber sings 'songs.' This about WW2, alcoholism, little known contributions of non-whites in the US. Do you get it yet?
I would recommend checking out the documentary "The Canary Effect" on
YouTube, shows the viewer the reality of how America's actions have
affected the Native American populations.
I'm a Canadian Native Indian woman living in Vancouver, BC. Ira Hayes was
just a young child when he passed away. This song just breaks my heat into
so many pieces and still makes me cry. SIR Ira Hayes may you RIP.
RIP Ira. You have my thanks and respect.
You did not deserve to live the life you lived after you got out of the
Marines. And you did not deserve to die the way you did.
God bless you, sir.
+startzel1988 Again, to reiterate, I never cared about the prior discussion. I was calling you out for attempting to say you were right by comparing the other person to a whale. You call me an idiot now, and half the time you can't form real sentences. There is a reason people say trying to debate with people on Youtube is pointless and you are a prime example. This conversation isn't worth my time, and unless you want to be petty and try to have the Las word it shouldn't be yours either. Something tells me that you will respond though. But I am done here. Have a nice life.
+Matthew Lawrence You didn't but by thinking you know anything on a subject you claim someone is wrong for knowing their history that the united states hides from idiots like yourself? You think you know about Native American history? NO, so that is why I wrote what I did. You try to come at me like a dip shit and claim you didn't say anything racial when this subject is about ethnic.... stupid.
Look, I am completely unbiased towards race, gender, etc. I would never look down on our armed forces. I'm just saying if someone is going to insult, when you make a point, don't insult them back. It puts you on their level, and denies you any arguable credibility.
I did. I never touched the ethical or racial issues. In fact I never mentioned them. Perhaps if you had read and "Thought a bit more" you'd have realized I was calling you a hypocrite and not debating whatever set you off.
+Matthew Lawrence Well when you only think in a narrow way about racial issues you really cant reason with idiots. You telling them how its negative to a ethnic, but then racist claim over sensitive. So nice try guy on trying to reverse this think a bit more before writing.
+startzel1988 I love how your rebuttal about how they can only respond with an insult, is simply an insult as well. " lol take your advice and shut up before you get a heart-attack and die from that blubber." Heartwarming... By the way, you are missing some punctuation as well. Just saying.
+Donna Jones Says the dumbass that can't write a sentence. You need a (.) you retard fuck that can even seem to defend themselves in a argument.... lol you really are a dumb one aren't you? Are you a 400 pound whale also Donna Jones? Haha what a basic name for a whale like you too. From the south are we Donna? haha omfg I love slow minded idiots like you that can't come up with anything but " shut up stupid" lol take your advice and shut up before you get a heart-attack and die from that blubber.
+startzel1988 forget them, and don't forgive. most will never know what it feels like to don the uniform.....don't worry about them, we sure as fuck don't..!
la farge wrote it and sang it his own way incomparable, but townes made it
his song
they are two great great artists
and the same with death flowers, the stones version is unique and townes
sings it like it`s he's own song.
God bless our NATIVES.. Ira Hayes!.. Im native Choctaw.. i raise my glass
to my fellow patriot, native friend.. and all he stood for. God Bless that
MAN!
+debbi wright Found on: "The Death of Annisa Jones" message board. Strange...LOng lost Father?September 26 2006 at 4:41 PMNo score for this post"Hello, My name is Anne-Lisse Markham. My mother's name is Inger Marie Nielsen. I have been doing extensive research on her, and my step dad Peter LaFarge. They were folk singers in Greenwich Village, NY, in the 1950's and 60's. During my research I began to question the identity of my real father. I went to a psychic that told me my real father was my fathers' "uncle". My dads name is Thomas Hayes Markham. He is awol, can't ask him. Anyway, Inger spent some quality time at Bellevue Psychiatric ward, as did Peter. Peter died in 1965, leaving behind my half sister Karen Wanden LaFarge (Currently recooperating from a severe attack (2005) that left her unable to speak). My grandmothes' name was Mary Driscoll. She had a bunch of brothers and sisters. It is possible that Bobby was her youger brother; i.e. my fathers' uncle. Apparently, Bobby was also at Bellevue Hospital at around the same time as my mum (1966). I was born on August 22, 1967 at St.Mary's Hospital in Hoboken, New Jersey. I have tried to find out who the girlfriend of Bobby was at the time that "Dirt" was made (can't find it). I know this sounds crazy but what the hey...Thank you, Anne Lisse Markham____________________________________________________________________________________________________________Colorado Springs GazetteMan says he killed 3; police research leadBy: ANSLEE WILLETT THE GAZETTEAugust 4, 2005"One case Colorado Springs police will review is the July 7 beating of a woman at a construction site at Fountain Boulevard and Weber Street. Hi, I just watched & read..What you say has truth; but, for people like
me~'Wind Talkers' is a very important movie, as I did not like to study
history...I then learned from that movie and also, gained even deeper
respect for our 1st Americans~~how could the 1st Americans fight the
wars~~because, they LOVE this land. Respectfully p.s. I've just watched 1
of 5 DVD's of the remake of 500 Nations~~the Kevin Costner version~~I've
been near the Gila Reservation~~strong energy (chi) or vortex, WOW!
stinkie, the fact you make this all about YOU by attacking everyones
comments as if you were there shows what an unadulterated piece of shit you
really are.if you had done one little ounce of research you would have
known michael strank was one of the flag raisers, and ironically the
original flag raiser then returned for the second one.as his grandaughter,
we have meticulously documented the event .when you are old enough to read
you will run into this info, until then, shut the fuck up.
the saddest thing about this is ira hayes was NOT one of the flag raisers
,he was nearby when a photographer asked them to re-enact the flag raising
since it had been missed by the photographer(for Life magazine,i
believe).then he was thrust into the spotlight...and he didnt want to be
there,he was uncomfortable about it since he knew the truth but was made to
tour by the government.he spent every waking moment feeling guilt and tried
to drink it away,id say he succeeded,it killed him
the second flag was a re-enactment.the first flag was raised and johnson
ffound a bigger flag.,however the original photo was screwed up so it was
re-staged.dont try to school me on this event asshole i am the
granddaughter of MICHAEL STRANK so i believe i am WAY more qualified than
YOU to speak on this.my grandfather uttered the words "Colonel Johnson
wants this big flag run up high so every son of a bitch on this whole
cruddy island can see it."do your research moron.
"...and all who was there"...really? It's WERE there, jerk. And lets do
keep perpetuating the Ira Hayes myth. He was a sullen, unhappy alcoholic
before he went to war. That was NOT a "posed" picture, he LOVED being on
the Bond Tour, but was so constantly disgustingly drunk they finally,
reluctantly, removed him. God, actually read "Flags of our Fathers", forget
that idiot movie, and know what the hell you're talking about. And Cash's
song SUCKS!
The memories of the terrible battles he fought and all his buddies who died
he felt he didnt deserve all the praise and honor he said it was for those
who died, He was a real American hero and I hope the generations coming up
today will somehow learn and remember who he was and what he and all the
other Marines did in WWII. SACRIFICE is the only word that comes to my mind!
That's a lie. They brought up a large heavy flag to replace the little one
that was already there and Hayes was ordered to help hoist it up. Hayes was
only one of five survivors of his squad of forty five that wasn't killed on
Iwo Jima. You fked up the rest of the story too, he obviously had the
alcoholic gene, give him a break.
Thanks for this post. Many people have forgotten about IRA HAYES. Many may
not of even known of whom he was. If you don't know who he was find out
about this brave man who remembered his country but his country forgot him.
Never let them forget some give all its not always left on the battelfield.
Don't forget them.
Semper Fi Ira Hayes, May God/Creator Bless you. We also honored you with

There is no evidence on an internet search that your story is accurate. It
sounds more like a "family" story that got embellished over the decades.
Relatives give the least reliable accounts of actual events. And I hope
that's not the mouth you kiss your babies with.
Read the book, and I saw the movie. James Brady was inspring to write the
book because he was touched by the story. He did an excellent job telling
their stories, and his father's. RIP Ira, and the men who served and are
serving, thank you. Today is Veterans Day.
I still say Michael Strank got the worst of it. At 25, he was called "old
man," never got off the island, and when Ira Hayes met his mother, he
completely broke down, and said, "Your son was the greatest man I ever met."
Edye, you ignorant fkhead. Hayes obviously has the alcoholic gene, give him
a break. Plus, he served our country in World War II, what did you ever do?
And by the way, Johnny Cash never had a song that sucked.
A beautiful "skin" of the indian and he sacrificed his life for all colors
here!!! He should be one on top of the list as a Hero and a Native American
at that!!! and have full recognition for his Pima tribe!
Many Veterans fall into this desperate lifestyle when they return with
memories of fallen comrades and blood war to a society who misunderstands
and fails to embrace them. bt
Semper Fi means "Always faithful to God, Country and the Marine Corps.
