NO! In deed.Tejanos deserve their own accountability towards their own folk. But!!!! Tejas may not ignore the clash of culture;I know it is controversial. New Mexico has kept a good rap on things. Arizona is still battling. And California has lost its identity to a storm of diversity - But not really.Chicano culture has a great responsibility to level things out throughout the South west.Amen! Hasi sea.
hate to point this out, but the diaries of two Mexican soldiers say that
just two shots of grape shot killed or wounded some 100 men. other entries
indicate some 500 more casualties were suffered during the assault, most
eventually dying because there was no medical corps in the Mexican army.
there were perhaps 200 defenders, all of whom died. before any says I am
anti-Mexican, only 2000, at most, were in the attack. over 25% casualties
is similar to what the USMC suffered at iwo jima, showing that the Mexican
soldiers were as brave and dedicated as any on earth. I really have to
laugh at the statement that 50 or so Texans ran at the end. not that I
think many would not have done so if they stood a chance, but there was no
possibility of that many getting out the the mission through the Mexican
troops. on the number of Texans in the Alamo, Travis' own letters show
there was no more than about 200 able men. Mrs. Dickenson, however, does
mention a number of men wounded while taking San Antonio were still in the
hospital, but never gives an actual number. so there might have been 250
total, but we will probably never know. As to Crockett surrendering, Santa
Ana had the Alcade of San Antonio show him Crockett, Travis and Bowie's
bodies afterward. If Crockett had been captured, why would Santa Ana need
to be shown his body?
also,i almost forgot, if you look again at those official Mexican army figures, they claim some 600 defenders were present and killed, an impossible figure, lending credence to them being just propaganda.
sorry, but the numbers you give don't add up, as the diaries of the ordinary soldiers give far different figures, of at least 500 total, and I trust their figures more than Almonte, who was just Santa Ana's yes man. also, Crockett died in the Alamo in front of the chapel, as his friend Mrs. Dickenson saw him laying there afterward. Also, the Mexican soldiers started cheering and making a lot of noise just as they were starting out, and alerted the defenders. in fact, Travis died on the wall, falling off it in the process, according to his slave joe, who was at his side. Now, I also find great fault with those who like to claim more than 1000 Mexican casualties, as this is a ludicrously large figure. I do not take any info at face value, but double and even triple check it. Take the De LaPena diary, for instance, which has turned out to have been written over ten years after the war, while he had been imprisoned by Santa Ana, and numerous inaccuracies have been found in it.
+ken mazoch I shall endeavor to read the two books you suggested. I'm always looking for new sources. I share your historian career. In my research I strived to search out the real truth to revise American history as it should be, not to perpetuate the myths and legends that are drummed up by historians who have an interests because of their extreme ideologies. On the dawn morning of the attack there were no men(pickets) on the parapets guarding and looking for the eminent attack. They were all in the Longs Barracks. There were six pickets who were hastily neutralized with their throats slit open or bayonetted. The men in the Longs Barracks, the majority were, ill, cold, illed trained citizen soldiers compromising of clerks, merchants, farmers, craftsmen, teachers and lawyers instead of well trained fighting men. They were trying to grab some sleep allowed by the complacent 26 year old Travis, who was hardly a whiz at military tactics, for the motley crew of defenders who were tired and sleepless the day before. Big mistake! When the Mexican army breached the North wall the men inside the barracks did have much of a chance to get into fray because of their disorientation and were subsequently taken by surprise and could not fight. There was no slaughter of these men simply because only a few had the notion to go out and fight. The others that remained in the barracks gave thought to escaping. Attempts were made to escape. One group through the Main gate Lunette south of the garrison, another through the West Wall lunette, the final group through the ground level Palisade which was the group that was led by Davy Crockett where he was captured and executed. The other escapees were met Mexian Zapadores(lancers) who polished off these poor untrained, undisciplined souls. Colonel Almonte in his account described a low casualty figure of 65 dead Mexican soldiers, 223 wounded for a total of 288.+ This was a final count accordingly, except for the number made up by pseudo-historians who wanted to save face from having lost the battle. They needed inflated figures to report to the populace to show that their loss was not in vain. Bust alas and alack revised history has since set the record straight!
dude, all I said was it was impossible, under the circumstances, for 50 or more defenders to have gotten out of the Alamo during the attack. At least a dozen did, three actually seem to have made it, Louis Rose(or Moses in some accounts) being the one known for certain. Lord found evidence that he ran during the final assault, not a couple of days before, as he claimed. But as to the rest, once the Mexican troops got into the Alamo, most retired into the interior buildings, particularly the one called the long barracks. there was no chance for most to even try to run.as to the Mexican army's casualties, these have been well documented by historians, and most agree that they suffered 25-30 % casualties during the final assault, which would have been 500-600. as I also pointed out, this shows the courage and dedication of the average Mexican soldier, that they continued under such conditions. I suggest two really good, well researched and balanced books, Walter Lord's "A Time To Stand" and Wallace Chariton"s "Exploring the Alamo Legends". I have been a historian for over forty years, and these two are the best on this subject I have read.
+russell brown The defenders did throw in the towel. Keeripes, how many time must you been told that the cowards made escape attempts only to be met by zapadores(lancers on horseback) outside the compound walls! The Mexican army did not suffer disproportionate casualities. 150 dead in the duration from the beginning to the end. Most of them through fratricide. The defenders couldn't possibly infict heavy casualties. They were too busy trying to escape.
+ken mazoch completely false ken mazoch! Your statement above^^^^^^......Mexican soldiers and their diaries????Nope not true! Any Mexican soldier accounts were by word of mouth and eye witnessed! De la Pena wrote in his diary of which he had the luxury of writing because of his rank wrote that "a single cannon volley did away with half a company of soldiers " which was almost certain that it was a complete exaggeration on his part simply because of his attempts to make Santa Ana look foolish. However, an unidentified Mexican soldier described how a improvised canister of nails did little or no damage but relatively minor wounds. He went on to mock the ineffectiveness of the Alamo cannons in the April 5, 1836 issue the Mexican newspaper "El Mosquito Mexicano" that the bullets and grapeshot from those cannons were spent bouncing harmlessly before they reached their target which on the other hand indicated the limited powder supply was damp and of poor quality. So, no grapeshot killing anybody. They didn't have grapeshot. They improvised with metal objects: nails and other such items built into a makeshift canister which was fired once or twice ineffectively. And remember too that the battle took place in the dark of dawn when the count of casualties could not have taken place. And....who did the counting?
+ken mazoch Ye gads your dumb! You're a victim of bullshit white propaganda, programming and pure brainwashing! Crockett did not surrender vato! He was captured as he was attempting to escape with his tail between his legs as the coward he was. He was executed in front of Santa Ana because he boasted to a Arkansas news paper that he would "have Santa Ana's head before the war was over!" Wrong thing to say! Santa Ana knew of this boasting and guess what...........
+ken mazoch Glad someone is talking some common sense. Grape, or canister shot was a primitive, but appallingly effective weapon against the typical " march up and get mown down" infantry tactics of the era. Politically, Santa Ana was on the defensive, and it was critically important for him to regain control over Texas without delay, or risk being deposed back in Mexico City, or even by his own officers. . He would have been well aware that his army would suffer disproportionate casualties in any direct assault on the Alamo , but what else could he do that would not involve a humiliating backdown? Santa Ana the gambler had probably made the unsafe assumption the defenders would throw in the towel when faced with overwhelming force and a few days of bombardment. Its what might be described as a typical "dictator's error".Intimidating the opposition with cannon fire, colourful uniforms, and a big reputation was one of Napoleon Bonaparte's specialities, but even for him it didn't always work.
The war still rages. The US took the spoils of Mexico's defeat but at a
costly price. I would like to say; the blue bit more than it could chew.
The south west is an intergrated system of anglo Americans mixed with
Mestizos unwilling to let go. Mexican territory was never lost. The war
rages on.
+Cedar Poplar The big potential problem with the Rebs was that sooner or later(if they'd won), they would have started to ask themselves why it was even necessary to be African-American to be a slave. Why not enslave the whole of Central America? Who was going to stop them with the Yankees taken care of?Come to think of it, enslaving all of the South's poor whites would have made economic sense as well.
Man, that would of have been quite a show -Confederacy ruling Latin America with the black population still under chains! You know, I don't think that's what we got to worry about now a day. Rather, how the heck do we keep on moving forward. And still keep our san-ti-ty. (Sorry man, I'm not quite sure how to spell Santidad)
+Cedar Poplar It was just as well for Mexico the that Confederates didn't win the Civil War. Some Rebs had in mind a "Big South" expansionist agenda that would have meant overrunning Central America all the way to Panama, though keeping the lid on their new empire might have turned out to be problematic.
Disneyland - 1.18 - Davy Crockett at the Alamo - Part 4 of 4
Walt Disney began hosting his own television show for ABC in 1954 in an unusual contract: Disney provided ABC with a weekly hour-long television program in ...
+racinrandy1 Apparently, they had to be omitted to avoid running afoul of Disney and YouTube's copyright violation scans. The Walt Disney Company, especially these days, is notorious for going after those who post its products without authorization (which would no doubt require paying a VERY hefty royalty!).
SMASHMDI1 said:
"Most of the people who fought at the Alamo were armed illegal immigrants
looking for a free piece of land. Hollywood is so full of shit."
But the US Government allows Mexicans and other illegals from Central
America to cross OUR southern border, give them a free ride. Social
Security, Food Stamps, free medical and Section 8 housing paid for by US
Tax Payers. So Smashmdi1, should we execute all illegals as Santa did?
Many old-time Americans who think the American way of life lost would think so. But, it would make us no different than Mexico for attacking the Alamo. So, personally? No. Besides, regardless, both sides of the border, both Mexican and American, hated Santa Anna for different reasons and as of Crockett, two accounts of his death were documented. The pro-American one, where he went down in a blaze of glory swinging rifle Ol' Betsy, and the Mexican version, where he survived the Alamo siege, only to be brought before Santa Anna in defiance alongside four others. Even Santa Anna's lead commander, Manuel Fernández Castrillón, wanted to intercede on the rebels' behalf, hoping the paranoid dictator would change his mind and that the rebels would kindly surrender, but no such luck, as a group of staff toadies hoping to impress their chief promptly bayonetted all five. What's even sadder is that by the time the provincial government realized the threat (many delegates thought Travis's letter pleading for reinforcements was an exaggeration, except maybe for Robert Potter and Sam Houston), the Alamo was already lost. Worse still, although general Fannin prepared to march his 300 troops from Gonzalez to the Alamo; they turned back the next day, having traveled less than 1 mile (1.6 km), after days of indecision.
I got unnecessarily emotional when Russel died
not sure why
When we were watching this movie in a class, I accidentally yelled " NOOOO
" in class and sort of shed a tear there. I didn't really pay attention to
the rest after that, unfortunately.
Watched this with my daughter the other day, I looked over at her as Russel fell and Davy prepared to make his last stand and tears were rolling down her cheeks and for a moment I was six years old again the time I first watched it and my throat got tight. I know what "historians" say now, that it didn't happen that way. I'm a Vet and know that war, even if necessary is not glorious, but a people, especially the young must have heroes to look up to, someone to exemplify or we lose something as a nation. That's pretty much why we're in the fix we're in now.
The Alamo (1960) - Final Battle
The final battle in the movie The Alamo. Starring John Wayne.
Dumb beaners lol. The Mexican leader probably told them there were
thousands of tacos in the Alamo and they went crazy and attacked. They are
still 100 times more advanced then blacks though. When this happened the
blacks were still running around like Adam and Eve stabbing each other with
no tools or any technology. I mean like Trevon and lashandraqusha, not Adam
and Eve. The latest black heroes in the past few years are worthless punk
thugs. Put them in camps or ship them out of the country.
Funny how ignorant you are you evil white Casper the ghost son of your mother yet father of your sister gabacho mugroso de una traila con cucarachas y bien orinada con mierda.jajajajajja
Like the 2004 Alamo film, both are the worst films ever made. Wayne, an
armchair warrior and cowardly conservative, wanted to act big, despite the
fact the sissy was NEVER in the US army!!!! He, Clint Eastwood,
Stalone....like Hollywood bullets, not REAL ones!
+EducatedThinker1 Excuses, excuses...yet he played in rough and tumble movies. He himself stated that movies were for sissies, yet he played in the for the easy money! Wayne is an armchair warrior FOREVER!
+Roger Borroel Clears throat Wayne was 34 when WWII started; that is too old for a fresh recruit. Also, knee injuries he received in college kept him from running the distances required by military standards.
+Mongolian Kirat The Mexican - American War on the other hand, Let's just say that Mexico was still pretty bummed out about Texas leaving them and joining the United States. What made Mexico even more mad was that the U.S wanted to, key word here BUY new Mexico and California and etc. They said no. What finally set them off is that when Texas joined the union the U.S built a military outpost, like a couple of tents and stuff, literally a few yards from the border, the Americans didn't mean harm but to the Mexicans it meant they might be invading. So the Mexicans attacked the outpost, the President of the U.S asked congress for a declaration of war, they granted thus beginning the Mexican - American War. the Americans won and In the treaty the Mexicans gave them New Mexico, California etc.
+Mongolian Kirat You do know that the battle of the Alamo took place during the Texas Revolution, and the Mexicans were fighting Texans not Americans. The Mexican - American War took place during the 1840s. At first America didn't even want Texas in the union because they were pro slave and there was a balance of slave and non slave states so if Texas entered it would though off the balance. But they did it anyway besides most Texans actually wanted to join the u.s.

+grioghair macgrioghair I can hardly understand you friend, but to be honest I prefer Don Agustine De Iturbide than Santa anna, Iturbide could have kept both parties unified
+Mr.renegade got to be with you on this santa anna wanted total control many mexicans and texicans were oppossed to this unfortunateley the texican defweatr at goliad prevented relief forces reaching the alamo however the 13 days travis and the others bought gave houston chance to assemble thwe force that dsestroyed sANTA ANNA ATR SAN JACINTO as you say unfortunately war is part odf the human condition much as we might wish it was not so i shoujld know i havbe been involved in the unseen war that goes on for morfe than 50 years we all wish warf and all that goes with it were not around but unfortunately it is part of human nature to fight to gain what we want
The one who continues the war, may the blood of the innocents be upon his hands. If you consent to a war, you are more foolish than the aggressor. America was to blame as much as Santa Ana. Even if the crimes committed were worse on his end we kept it going. Peace through forgiveness. War is normalized murder, Government is organized theft.
What is sad is how the role of Hispanics on the side of the Texicans from
politics to soldiers is not told so folks think it was a White persons war
when it was in fact fought by Hispanics, whites and blacks.
+Vin Dicator n ot all mexicans santa anna was A DICTATORIAL MONSTER WHO GAVE THE ORDERS ,AND WHO WOULD REFUSE A MAN PRONE TO HAVE YOYU SHOT FOR DISOBEYING HIS WORD
+LuckyShitZu Hispanics were given a "Christian" burial by the Mexican soldiers. White bodies were piled up and set on fire. Hitler did this to Jews a hundred years later and he is considered a monster. What does that make the Mexicans?

Danes in American History: The Lone Dane at the Alamo
A short video about Charles Zanco, a Danish Lieutenant, who was present at the famous siege of the Alamo. Made by René Christiansen, Intern at The Danish ...
Rene...a little local knowledge from a resident of San Antonio where The
Alamo can be found: the city is in the county of BEXAR...in Spanish, the X
is silent, so the county is pronounced like the animal: BEAR = BEXAR.

San Antonio Express-News for story about Cenotaph.
Hi. Thank you for making this movie. I've lived all my life in the same
place where Zanco and his father settled in Texas. I learned about the flag
as a schoolgirl. I'm pretty well-versed in Texas history (by virtue of
state educational statute AND my passion for Texas and American history);
yet until seeing this movie had not realized that we had a local resident
among those slain at the Alamo. So, you taught me something and I thank
you.
yes, it would very interesting to know more about Charles, but I couldn't
find more than what is in this video. glad that you like the video, I had a
very good time making it and the other videos. I learn a lot about
different Danish-Americans, and how much they actually influence American
history.
It makes me proud that Danes also played a part in forming the United
States. I thank you that Lieutenant Charles Zanco's sacrifice shall not be
forgotten.
Redneck Archaeologist goes in search of Knights of the Golden Circle that took over the Alamo at the start of the Civil War and finds their marks and codes.

+marianasreality THE SECRET IS THE LIES ON THE TRUE NATURE OF THE BATTLE!!!!! On the other hand, when people start lining up in front of this or that on the inside, and start taking pictures.....it would start getting rowdy. Now, inside the gift shop? Or the Long Barracks? I still don't understand that.
