St. Augustine's Philosophy and Theology
Chapter Four from Book Two, Part One of Bertrand Russell's "The History Of Western Philosophy" (1945).
Augustine was nothing then persecutor of those who were not catholics
(manicheans most) !! Because of that he was rewarded from catholic church
with titule saint !! almost all middle age saints and later are nothing
then persecutors of those who were not serving to Vatican !! because of
that in middle ages was only rulled plague, extrem powerty, various
diseas, numerous wars ,rebellions.... there was nothing like today and we
called peoples from that time "saints" who are pushing that sort of things
!!!
+TheVariableConstant Augustine of Hippo, what a man, what a heretic, and he was so enamoured with the philosophy of others. He taught, for one, Baptismal Regeneration, the mystery of how water can regenerate a soul.
+William Tyndale augustine was against "heretics"but he was so stupid or evil or both that he dont see that church are inheritants of heretic-pagan cults &sacraments
+Mr11ESSE111 I am just doing a study of this man after reading through The City of God, which is rather long-winded, and found in it that he taught baptismal regeneration, and other heresies. I always took this man as a sound person, but it appears that he is not, and can understand what you say.
+Mr11ESSE111 You say there is nothing "like plagues, extreme poverty, various diseases, numerous wars, rebellion..."today. I wonder what galaxy you inhabit?" IT IS NOT WHAT YOU SEE, IT IS WHAT YOU THINK WHEN YOU LOOK
I'm shocked that the medical community doesn't recognize the reality of
pornography addiction, they think that for it to be an addiction it has to
be a physical substance like meth or alcohol. As a man who has struggled
with lust and pornography since the age of five, I can tell that this is
real. Some people become so consumed by lust and sexual desires, that they
go around looking for anyone who would be willing to have sex them, both
men and women are being plagued by these monsters we call lust and
pornography. It's not just in your head, it's a real physical addiction,
you should google "your brain on porn".
I'm also shocked that some parents, usually fathers, will tell their
teenage kids that it's okay to look at porn and that no harm will come to
them or anyone else. If you're one of those people or parents then you need
to be told that you're wrong, and you should never let your child look at
porn. You have no idea of the damage you could be causing to your son or
daughter etc. I forgot to mention that teen girls look at porn also, and
it's not okay to let them look at it either.
+Steven Cook This is true but It is up to the parent's to educate their kids and monitor what they watch through electronic devices. I too suffered from this addiction. I noticed that one image or video of a provocative or revealing women stimulated my sexual organs hence I indulged in the filth of porn because it was hard to have self control. In modern day it is difficult to filter out all of the desensitization of women simply because every where you go they expose woman as a piece of meat literally (Carl's Jr, Hooters, etc.). They use this on purpose because they know that this is man's weakness, the beauty of a women. Its best to stay away from that, keep your mind pure. Ad block always comes in handy. A mind that does not keep busy tends to do bad things on it's own.
+ram rabbitI'm saying that anyone can become a victim of porn addiction, it doesn't matter what age you are, it's like a bullet, it doesn't care about your age. That's truth, my views are not distorted because of my experience. There are people who become addicted in their 40s and there are other people who become addicted in their teens, then other people who have been exposed to porn and use it a few times but do not become addicted.I can't tell you how many times I just wanted my sex drive to completely go away or never having one in the first place in order to spare the suffering. But without my experiences I wouldn't be the man I am today.
+ram rabbitActually, age has nothing to do with it. I agree that kids should never have to experience that, but this can and does happen to adults also. In a good world, no should have to worry about lust or porn at any age, but we don't live in a good world. We can only fix this problem by teaching others about reality, and how to practice self-discipline in order to beat our sinful desires, they may never go away completely, but that's no excuse to do anything or try to beat temptation.
