How to replace heater core Toyota Camry
1997 1998 1999 2000 2001 2002 Toyota Camry, 2.4L, 4 cylinder 1999 Toyota Camry. For 2 weeks the car was running without the leaking heater core. So now ...
Okay thanks! So this is the first thing I should do? Then just replace the core and refill the coolant? Only reason I because I cant seem to find the video where you bypass the heater core and I just want to make sure I don't mess anything up!
+Glowitzer You have to drain all the coolant. You will have coolant in your car if you don't. You can drain the radiator half way but how would you know it's half way empty.
Thank you SO much for editing it down to step by step. Didn't need another

litttle stuckk... ahhhhh.. mmmm. hmmm..." OMFG TURN THE SCREW
thanks bro, I bought the heater at a junk yard for 16 dollars and followed
your instructions and it works perfectly, now I just need to get it to pass
the damn smog check. (engine light on and a mechanic said the catalyzer
needed to be repaired) any videos on how to fix that? I have a toyota camry
1997 le.
yeah, I got 3 O2 sensors from the junkyard but all read 1.3 ohms, my car needs 11-16 ohms based on the book, i went to autozone and couple more stores and before i bought them i checked the resistence and all of them were 1.3 ohms, have you experienced this before? do you know of a place where i can read the resistence before buying? thank you for you help brother
Hey how are you?? Try to reset everything again, as if you are clearing codes with the scan tool and drive it again. It might be because of the oxygen sensor, if it's not OEM it's possible it could be the problem but try diving it again. I hope it works.
whats up bro, I cant complete the catalytic driving patter so I can pass the smog check, the resistence on the upstream oxygen sensor is 1.4 like on one of your videos but on my repair book it says that it should be between 14-16 ohms, I dont get codes anymore except that it doesnt complete the catalytic cycle, I bought a universal oxygen sensor for 29 but it reads 1.4 also, what do you think man?
Oh ok, they put it on like a dyno that spins the wheels. They tail-pipe testing. When I lived in Phoenix, Arizona they do that type of test on my car. What I did before to pass was put 91 octane gas so it burns cleaner, change oil, drove it in the freeway for 1 hour to get catalytic converter hot and it passed. You can do that but every car is different. Your car is not burning the fuel completely when it comes out of tail pipe. You maybe also need to change spark plugs.
same thing here, it just says that at the bottom of the paper, they do 2 tests, one at 15 mph and the other one at 25 mph and it came out too high on the corbon monixide,
ok that's good you get the right sensor. please let me know. i hope it takes care of the problem. But what is ASM emissions test. In Las Vegas we just have a smog test.
no, but when i looked it up on line I found it and it didnt have the same part number, I research the part number and it's for a toyota camry 1996,I have a 1997
Hello Mateo, that's great that the check engine light is gone. What is ASM emissions test, I'm not familiar with it. Was the part you got Have the same part# of the camry?
whats up man, so I fixed the check engine light but I took it yesterday for smog check and if failed the ASM emission test, remeber it smelled like rotten egg and thought it was the catalytic? well it doesnt smell anymore (didnt replace it), no engine light on anymore, the tech who did the test said it was weird, I ended up changing the Vap press sensor also, I looked for it and it was almost 200 so I got one from the junk yard from a toyota corolla I think , so do you think the vap sensor has to do anything with the high emissions? thank you in advance for your advice
I think that did it man, I replaced the egr vaccum modulator, reset the codes and so far, after 20 miles, no engine light, I hope it stays like that, thank you for your advice.
I replaced the VSV and now I only get the PO401 twice insufficient air flow, EGR tests ok, when I cleaned the EGR, it was clogged where it connects to, throttle body chamber? do you think that needs to be cleaned also?
I took off te VSV and it doesnt give me any ohms, on the book it says it suppost to read between 33 and 39 ohms, so imo change it see if that will do, I will let you know and thank you again for your time(it was very hard to get to it but succeeded,F yeah!)
What I remembered replacing on my friend car was the EGR vacuum modulator and EGR VSV, I suggest to replace both because it's an old car. I'm positive that is the problem.
thnx, so i cleaned the egr, it was dirty and when i blew in it it felt clogged, blew harder and a piece of dirt came out, oh and a found a disconnected air hose coming from underneath the air filter, replaced the gas cap and reset the codes, let u know what it reads after 15 miles, thank you for all your help
Alright I hope all goes well. I try to help people when they ask. Good luck with it but if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask. I was a used car and Toyota tech for 8 years at a Toyota Dealer. I graduated auto school at Universal Tech Inst. Now I work for myself and help others.
oh the first code, P0401 is the same problem with friend car. EGR(exhaust gas recirculation) flow is insufficient. You EGR is more likely clogged with carbon build-up. you will need to clean it first and see what happens. Sorry I don't have a video, my friend still scheduling with me to do it and I don't know when.
you actually can pass smog with the 1 monitor not cleared like the evap system. But what state you live in. here in vegas, my car has check engine light for P0446 and erased it, drove for 30 miles, all other monitors like catalytic, oxygen sensors and etc. except the evap. took it in and passed smog.
ok have you replaced the gas cap? this is process of elimination. start with the obvious first then work the way down. you have a leak in the evap system. by the way, which code came first??
i heard the vsv is the most comon problem, its kinda hard toe get in there, but imo check that next, Im going to clean the egr also see what happens, ill let you know how it goes
whats up man, I repaired the intake hose and it feels more powerful, unfortunately it stills shows the same codes, PO401, PO441, PO446, and PO450, the po401 comes up twice and the second one shows pending
yes replace it or temporarily use electrical tape. any hose that is cracked will cause the check engine light to go on. always start with the obvious problem.
oh yes replace that hose. it will make a difference. clear the codes by disconnecting the negative terminal on the battery for a minute, put it back and drive for 45 minutes to an hour.
yes that is right about the smell but why didn't it have the code P0420? a bad catalytic will not affect the performance of the engine, it just burns excess fuel that was not burn completely in the engine. It's mainly for the earths air to be clean and less smog, less pollution in the cities.
I need to replace a piece that connects to the air filter, im not sure what its called but its cracked, i don know if it will make a difference on the codes
Hello, Mateo good job on replacing the heater core. What is the code for the catalytic converter? I do have a video on replacing the catalytic converter. But I did not edit it yet.
