Kinesio Taping and Exercises for Hypermobile (Double-Jointed) Fingers
Jump to 10:30 for Exercises This is an impromptu video I made for my friend regarding Kinesio taping and exercises for double jointed (hypermobile) fingers.
+Sinead Baker I'm not exactly sure what you mean by train, but if you mean teach your joints how to be more stable then yes this would be part of it. When you're hyper mobile you have excess mobility in your joints because they cannot stabilize themselves properly. This can be for various reasons, but some people (like me) were just born with longer/more flexible tendons/ligaments and that is why my hands are hyper mobile. You need to work with a therapist to make sure you work on the issue correctly and don't injure yourself, but the Kinesio taping is one of the first steps in gaining stability and strength in the joint you are working on. It gently holds your joints in position and adds a little extra stability so that you can do the appropriate exercises that will strengthen the muscles around the joint. I've shown a couple of exercises in this video, but everyone will need different exercises depending on their particular problem. I hope that answers your question!
+Sinead Baker I could be completely wrong but I think this is how you cope with it when you wish to play a string instrument because the tips flipping backward is not a good thing. Someone will correct me if I am wrong, but either way I learned what I need in order to try to play an important guitar (if it were not important I would not bother to try because it's very hard with no bracing of any sort but splints won't allow the fingers to bend and make chords).
+john doe That's okay. Actually, pushing the limits of your hyper mobility when you are a string player is dangerous for your hands and can be career ending so I avoid hyper extending as much as possible.

My physio therapyst put some uape on my back today and I didn"t think it
would do anything, I was wrong It WORKS! Why ...I dunno. So much for the
placebo effect because I believed it would do nothing and instead I was
immediately much more comfortable. I guess we don't need to know why it
works in order to have it work anyway. :)
I've read there's no hard evidence that this works, since it mainly
separates skin from muscle movement, rather than helping the muscles
directly. I notice most videos on this topic have comments disabled, which
is one sign of shady science.
