It is impossible to upgrade an eMac to an i5 processor, or any processor
for that matter. Apple has made it almost impossible to upgrade processors.
It would be incompatible with other hardware, and the motherboard probably
would not be able to fit the processor anyway. You can only really upgrade
ram,and maybe the hard drive. Besides it is an 8 year old computer. Why
would you think it would be compatible with new hardware? Just saying.
I have a 1.24ghz and an 800mhz the 800 works great no issues ever but the
other won't boot I've wiped the drive 3 or 4 times and it will start the
welcome video and the freeze video but the audio will still keep going and
finally it freezes completely after a few more minutes. does anybody have
any idea what could be the issue with that if not I am going to strip it
for parts for the 1 that does work.
This video is awesome and informative and whats even cooler is that he
sounds like Billy Quizboy from venture Bros a bit :3 Helped me install a
new ASUS DVD drive in place of the old cd drive. The model was an asus
quiet track dvd/cd reader & writer. It is not an apple genuine dvd drive
and IOS X can still burn dvds/cds in the disk utility for those curious

Hello there, I have a question about an eMac, yesterday, we got a free
eMac, but when we use either a PC Power Cord or a New iMac power cord, when
it's plugged in, the outlet end sparks and pops and we quickly unplug it.
Do you know if this could be a serious problem or maybe we're using the
wrong cord or maybe even we're too scared to leave it in?
@raymangold22 The original Bondi Blue G3 (Rev. A and B) had fans, and the
G4 Luxo Lamp iMac had the same basic fan as the eMac, only without the
modified cage design (located at the very top of the dome). The G4 Cube did
NOT have a fan; it relied on convection cooling made possible by the design
which promoted natural heat-driven airflow.
I love this computer. I bought mine second hand 1.0, cleaned it very well.
For 5 years i never had any trouble. Fairly fast when browsing and
downloading. I even upclock it to 1.3 something and really no problem.
Changed HDD a number of times and still in best shape. I love this PC.
Excuse me. I can't find out: How to Dismantle and Repair Your eMac 2 of 2
My eMac can boot and work normally. (CPU 1.0GHz ; RAM 512 MB x 2 ; OS X)
One year ago, the monitor doesn't display anything. I had exchanged a new
battery and cleaned dust inside. CRT or capacity died ?
I personally prefer the softer focus of a crt reguqrdless of whether ppl
say they're bad for your eyes. BTW Why does this machine require a fan when
the iMac G4 Didn't need one or as big a one as this. Cheers
You reminded me I have a old Apple II/GS that I have modded for use 2x AA
Batterypack because it was a Solderon Original 3v OrganicLithium, I have
never Check the PSU for the Caps and check them.
I am curious if I should get a old emac northern lights model with 384 mb
of ram w/o keyboard and mouse and it is free if I drive out and pick it up
would it be worth a good 15 min drive
@WinbookXL3 Lucky. Ours are so slow that you need a calendar to time how
long it takes for one to boot, log in, and then process any keys you've
pressed. And they break all the time.
i have a question: could i take out all the parts & connect an external
monitor to these parts? basically i want to make my emac smaller & have a
mini monitor hooked up to it.....
When I think of all the stuff that goes into a CRT monitor I struggle to
imagine it ever being CHEAPER to manufacture than an LCD! They were nice
though and I miss them.
that ending is exactly how work is for me. I just bought a new board for a
customer and he brought it back a month later and a cap burst. Why does
this have to happen.
6 years is nothing.. I work at a school and we still have IBM ideacentre
from 2003-2004 era. They still work beautifully with their original 3.2 P4s
and 2 gigs of ram.
Thank you! This video is very helpful to me having the eMac to be my first
Apple product, I love it! How do I find the power fuse ? It will no longer
turn on.
+Anton EightBall Nope, because X requires 10.9.5 and the latest eMac can only run up to 10.5.x. However, you can probably run older versions of Logic. The eMac was a beast back in its day. I used to run GarageBand all the time on it with ease.
I just found out that 1Ghz+ models of eMac (2004-) can handle a 1GB RAM stick in each slot, which means I was easily able to upgraded my eMac to 2GB of ...
+Shahriar Ahmed Well, if PC133, it's not a 2004 model--it's a 2002-2003 model. Those models only take up to 1GB of RAM. The later models took up to 2GB of PC2700 memory.
+Shahriar Ahmed Yeah, beginning in 2004, eMacs were able to support up to 2GB of RAM; that would be 1GB per slot. PC2700 RAM is very common, so it shouldn't be too hard to find.
+Turcios3000 You're talking about the card itself? You could probably find one cheaply on eBay, or you could go with a USB dongle. Not sure about the machine's outdated USB ports, but it may be possible to get better speeds with a modern wireless dongle... except I'm not exactly sure. It's nicer to have the Airport card anyway, I suppose.
+Turcios3000 Haha--IDK about GTA, man. The original GTA series would work if you were to get some emulator... and as for San Andreas or something of the like? I'm sure you'd need a better GPU and CPU for that. I'm well aware of the power of this machine, but the only reason why I'm not blatantly either doubting it or saying yes is because I've only played San Andreas on one system before. As for Minecraft, PowerPC Macs cannot run the latest version; they can only run up to 1.5.5 or something. Even then, the eMac would not perform well. Yep--you can fit an eMac with an Airport Extreme card. All Apple desktop have been wireless-ready since about 2000.
They have one of these in a lab at my school that doesn't get used often. I
checked it out today and I was pretty impressed with its decent speed, it
started up in about 10-15 seconds and has osx 10.4 tiger and the 2GB of
ram. I really want to purchase it , but I don't know how to go about buying
it. Can you tell me how to try to purchase it as well as what sounds like a
good price for it. Thanks
Public school systems can be touchy with their computers, as many times they are owned by the district. However, if you know who is in charge of the computers there, it wouldn't hurt to ask. I wouldn't pay more than $30 for one of these--just as a heads-up. (oh, and the best one is the 1.42Ghz model). These things are pretty sturdy and fast. The CRTs on these are pretty crisp as well... I should have lowered the frame-rate on my camera, to compensate for the low refresh rate of a CRT!--sorry about that! In the end, if you cannot get one from school, you could try finding local Craigslist sellers. Try asking if your school is getting rid of it, first of all. You could very-well get it for free, in fact.
And it has, i think(don't quote me) it had 1.56GHz
Upgrading The Apple eMac Logic Board
In this video, we'll convert an early model second-generation Apple eMac 1.0GHz with the newest version logic board, which features a 1.42GHz G4 CPU, and ...
One thing you can do if the power button breaks is get a cheap little 2.00
2 post push button (any one will do, some thinner than others, but for
example like this
//images.oreillyauto.com/parts/img/medium/cti/85980-007.jpg) from
walmart or oreillys auto parts, equip the new button in the existing hole
or drill new one, solder some leads on and then add (splice or solder) a
male and female connector to the leads to make it easier to disassemble
with ease if your button has already broken. I did that with a 2009 Dell
inspiron desktop and one of my custom pc cases I used. Hope this helps

Metal... and cheese... I KNEW they made it from cheese! No wonder they were
so tasty to lick as a kid! Bishop, your videos are always good to satiate
my nerd hunger. I don't have the money nor the time to do this crap with
computers, I only upgrade my PC anymore. So thanks for doing what you do!
At my school, we are finally getting rid of these. The 1.42's are the only
ones we are still using.
Although these things run pretty sweetly with Kubuntu PowerPC. So there are
modern operating systems that will run nicely on a PowerPC giving it an
extended life span. Although I'm guessing that where you work they have no
time for Ubuntu computers in the classroom (from the way you were talking
about the computers no longer being useful to the school)
I used to service equiptment for a school district, and I remember us
trying to buy more of these before they went away, but they were out of
stock.... speaking of running equiptment into the ground, we still use a
Pentium II at work for the checkout machine, and we are a freaking computer
shop, lol.
i have been wanting an emac for a good long while now but most of the ones
around where i live people want to much for them or they recycle them. this
one computer recycle store where i live just kills them off cause they dont
sell :( oh how i have wanted one lol
Ya hard to find a torrented disc image with any seeders. thanks tho and
sweet vid. I've been using a 1.25GHz emac as my everyday computer for about
5 months now. Never had any problems and still very useable
Nice job on the upgrade! It's good to see people still using eMacs as they
were and still are good machines. I'd love to get another one but sadly I
would have no use for it except for it to gather dust.
Wow, if I did that to my 1ghz emac it would out perform my main computer!
(1.42ghz Mac mini). I'm planning on doing this upgrade when I can afford
the $40 someone is charging for a used motherboard.
I recently bought a PowerBook G4. It is replacing my eMac because of
problems with caps. I could order some new ones, but that's another project
for another day and I needed another PPC computer.
Do you know where i can find a copy of mac classic? (download legit or not)
I want to run 9.2 on my emac which has 10.5 on it now. I can partition the
hard drive to make it run 9.2 hopefully.
I always used to use torex screwdrivers on mine and never had issues with
them rounding out. The torex drive I had fit perfectly even though it was
the wrong tool for the job.
Look at a video on my channel about burning OS 9 to a CD. I have a link to
a system folder you can download. Also you can download an OS 9 disk image
from winworldpc(dot)com.
I remember back when the eMacs were being sold alongside the iMac G4s - the
eMac was such a better value, the same guts, way lower price, if you didn't
mind the size!
you could always torrent an image (plenty available), or buy a copy of
Leopard online. I have a PPC optimized .dmg restore image of 10.5.8, and
it's pretty darn fast.
I still have an iBook G4 12". It's an early model with the 1.07ghz G4. I
maxed out the ram, and I swapped out the HDD for an 80gb one. Great little
machine.
Scrap piles of hell, lol, I know what you mean. I have a stack of Power Mac
6100s and a couple 8500s with extra parts that need sorting out, among
others.
I have both a iBook G3 and a iMac G3, with a blank hard drive, how can I
transfer the OS from the iBook to the iMac via Ethernet, with no extra
software?
whats sad is they went from the old processor/arch to the newer archs but
whats nice is they started using the really fast intel core series
processors
Aww, they had these at my school. They were slower because they were school
computers and all computers were on an old server computer. People who
didn't know about computers got mad at them, and someone even said: This
stupid computer won't load cause it's like 30 years old". Even though they
didn't mean that, it was only 5 years old at the time! (at the youngest)
They are still good and pretty fast.
OMG How Wierd , My name is also Tom , i am a fan of alot of stuff on ur
wall , i am looking out for emac's . G3's etc. And My Mum Created one of
the freecycle groups (Melksham) and more u sound welsh and my favourite
country in the world is WALES!
Not everyone is blessed with amazing looks. What matters is if their nice
people and obviously this guy is. He doesn't deserve bad comments like this
or to be made fun of, so take your jealous self somewhere else.
@MrJake0604 Well, My Mac Pro is my main Mac, PowerBook is my main portable,
PowerMac G3 is my server and the iMac and eMac are little projects :) Any
other Mac that you've seen in my videos have been sold...
I'm very excited about this video tomorrow! I have not got a clue what its
about aside from the gaming bit you said in your gameboy colour video which
gets me REALLY excited being an avid gamer myself.
You actually can use dual displays via the video port without mirroring,
but you have download a firmware patch (a hack actually) that extends the
desktop instead of mirroring.
Nowp. This is an eMac. It's like an iMac G3 but it was for education
purposes. 17" screen and a G4 Processor. They're the main differences
between the 2 :)
