sorry to be troll on here but when you say its not going to last forever
Sorry to say you are wrong there they really do last forever, my jeep has
270,000 miles original tranny original motor never been rebuilt and I know
someone with a jeep with 427,000 miles they really keep going and going :D
You could have just run the wire through the tail light grommet on the
drivers side. There is enough room to run it through, so you wouldnt have
it running in the weather strip for the rear hatch.
Hi Mike, great design. Definitely gonna try this for my jeep. One problem
though, I'm still looking for an antenna. What antenna do you currently own
and where can I get it?
If you have a 05 grand cherokee the best thing to do is get a leveling kit,
then about a 2 to 3 inch lift on it. You'll be surprised what. Leveling kit
does to the Cherokees

this is the video I've been looking for longer than its been posted. Thank
you.
If you flipped the bracket though I don't think the mount hole would line
up. And as far as the tire the touching isn't the problem, you will have
some loss in any direction that is blocked by the tire (because of the big
metal straps in them) or the body or roll cage for that matter, it is
negligible however for how a CB is used 98% of the time. if you're trying
to call long distance with it it may be better to carry a second antenna
with you, just for that.
Just thought fodder, thanks for the video!
+Cory Gardner You would have to flip it to the other side of the spare tire, i.e., on the left side of the tire. Then the mounting holes would be oriented properly for the bracket, but I don't know if that would put the top of the bracket too close to the door surface, and also not sure if the antenna itself would be too close to the upper half of the door. And I agree that touching isn't that much of a problem as the tire rubber and plasticized tire cover are non-conductive. As you point out, from a radiation perspective this isn't the optimum location, but then there isn't really an optimum location on a jeep. Optimum location would be on the roof, but there's no metal roof! I'm satisfied with it and it's a pretty solid mounting.

doesn't look like the antenna will have a good ground plane mounted that
way? and do you have any ideas on a 2 meter antenna and where to mount it
on a wrangler other than on the hood?
