@premium67 wow thats tough driving man. is the axle still straight? and
4.88s are really low for 32s..., but you probably dont get over 60 anyway
and that will help a lot with the down low grunt, which is all you really
need. you have the 5 speed? also you should look into getting some rustys
180 pound spring weight springs and that coil over spacer + jounce bumper.
it replaces your front bump stops with heavy duty air springs. it give you
like 3 inches of travel and it basically (other post)
it is 2wd right? i was thinkin just a rustys 4.5 and then possibly poly
coil spacers 1.75" and shackles 1.75". that puts it at 6.25" but i dont
know if that would be to high for stuff like this if i find it. i really
like my jeep so i want to keep it. i found a 91 cherokee 4x4, and i heard
if you have a donor car then you can swap the straight 2wd axle with the
4x4 axle, as long as you have all the 4x4 drivetrain and the ecm from the
4x4. i'm thinking about doing it because that 4x4 was $500.
i've been thinkin about doing this to my cherokee 2wd. is it worth it? do
people give you shit for lifting a 2wd jeep? i can get through most of the
shit here in texas, we dont have very many trails like this, just alot of
mud bogs, and my last place to do stuff like this got shut down this week.
there builing a housing development! i say go live somewhere else, leave me
to my only offroading place left. but yeah how much lift do you have? i was
thinkin a rusty 4.5" for mine. have any tips?
My jeep handles well because of the low amount of lift and the geometry of
the suspension. Its only about 4.5 inches higher than stock and has control
arm relocation brackets and the track bar has been moved up on the axle to
help level it. The steering is also much improved and follows the same arc
as the track bar. If you get a Rusty's 4.5, it wont have any of that and if
you lift it more, it will drive terribly. At 4.5 inches, you don't HAVE to
do all that but any higher and you will.
Well its probably cheaper to do it to a pickup like a tacoma or ranger but
a Jeep has cool value. My cherokee handles awesome, I can drift it all day
long in the dirt and around intersections as well. I have about 4.5 inches
of lift and 32" tires. Your best bet is to piece together a suspension like
I did. You can buy a kit if you want but any kit you buy will need much
better shocks if you really want to romp. People don't give me shit, just
props.
Looks like my mom when somebody cuts her off. Nobody fucked with her when
she had her Cherokee. It was a 95 Two Door Five Speed. And it HAULED ASS!
And my mother being 54...You can only imagine the G Force when Im sitting
in the back seat. I can barely move forward. XD
Just bought an 89 XJ and thats pretty much what i want to be able to do,
whats your suspension on that badboy? Any stats would be great. Very nice
rig btw. I've tried crawlin, tried boggin, but I like the desert better,
let me know! Thanks!
@Fr0z3nFr0g My bumpstops suck. They are just longer poly ones. I built a
spacer in the rear to get them lower. I have an 8.8 with 4.88 gears and a
Detroit Trutrac in the back and it is trussed. But I cracked the truss...
i read back in your posts about your suspension. nasty stuff...what did you
do about your bumpstops? i know you have to hit them often with all that
jumping. which rear axle are you running and did you truss it?
aight, cool man. thanks, you helped me decide on some of the stuff i'm
gonna be doing. have you run in any of the jeepspeed stuff or done some
racing? you would do great, judging by your driving.
Its not as easy as simply buying a lift if you want to run 35's on a jeep,
first off, your going to need long arms, or if you buy a short arm kit,
then you want to buy drop brackets to correct your control arm andgle, then
your going to need a slip yoke eliminator and custome driveshafts (tom
woods), after that your probably gonna find your dana 35 in pieces after a
few months of abuse, so if you dont already have a upgraded axle, then you
want a 29 spline 8.25, or factory xj dana 44, or ford8.8
Myself and a lot of my friends around middle tennessee have lifted
cherokees, mine 8.5" with 35" claws love it. My friend went 36" and started
braking his axle shafts a lot but never broke anything with 35". I was
going to go with super swampers tsl but they moved to china and they are
using soft compound rubber now and they will wear really quick. They are on
national back order for 2-3 more months as of a couple weeks ago.
@nebur5151 I love my 89. With a volt meter, you can diagnose any issue that
you have with the RENIX system. Engine wise, the renix heads are bullet
proof. So are the HO as well. I just love my renix jeep.
@rockkrawler1 I can write a book on building an xj, but youtube only allows
500 characters.lol I miss my old jeep, now im driving a g*y toyota
corolla......soon enough though I will be wheeling again
Nice. It's kinda weird my jeep looks BEAT TO SHIT since its been smashed up
against rocks, trees, etc. EVERYONE is like "nice jeep" EVEN GIRLS. I
thought they'd be saying that before I trailed it.
nice, HELP ME HERE......are you using short arm or long arms????? i got 35s
for free just need a lift. but was gonnna just go with short arms and
control arm drop brackets. what you guys think????
how big of a long arm lift do you have to clear those 35s i have a xj and
want to put 35s on it but dont know how big of a lift to go i think a 8in
will be fine is that how big yours is
@SoloDiablo1984 you would be correct again lol, cherokees are alot of money
past 33's if you plan to actually "wheel it" some guys throw on 35-37's and
drive to the mall everyday
@jeepcummins721 skinny/shitty sidewalls, but work great on the rocks, mud
they dig holes in the forward direction, so i flipped two of mine so theyre
running in reverse rotation
@gamoairguns thats what i thought as soon as i saw that! im pretty sure it
is. i used to live off of red fern, so anytime i wanted to wheel, i just
went up the hill.. lol.
@rockkrawler1 Seems like something I would be able to put on my XJ (I can't
weld nor do I want to, I can get my uncle to just tack them like yours.
Should be good enough
i love how children have shitty s.u.vs and nice tires.... like when i was
16 kids diddnt have cell phones... parents these days.... am i right thumbs
up if u agree
@pussywran must not be talking about mine but my tires were nice at that
point. nice tires for safety c'mon your old enough to know good tread saves
lifes!
Uh... he never said it was a v6... YOU said that zj... FYI Curt has been
around jeepspeed and offroad racing longer than you've been a dirty thought
in your daddy's mind. And that Jeep IS a v8, Hell, it's sitting in T&J's
shop right now!
Using that short ram air intake did it affect your vacuums such as cruise
control? When I installed a ram air on my xj it messed up a lot of stuff
including cruise control and the overall quality of my engines performance.
Also how are you getting 15 MPG when the stock 4.0 gets that? You must be
really easy on the skinny stick to get 15 mpg mixed driving. My XJ got
about ~17 mpg highway until i switched to 31 inch tires, now it gets 15.
+Shawn Ford Also I can say this thing sounds very smooth and seems to run very good. Good job on the build, wish I justify spending the money on a full rebuild and some of the mods you've done.
+Shawn Ford Hmm cool, I never believed cruise control made a big difference, although it does help on long trips save my heel and or entire leg from going stiff / numb.
I'm not sure how it's averaging 15 mpg, but it is lol. Also, I don't have cruise control on it, so I can't say anything to that affect, but I will say that the heater controls work fine at all speeds and it doesn't seem to be affecting anything negatively.
What do you mean? It's not a Titan or any of the big brands. It was custom built for me by a local engine guy. Come to find out, it's a 4.6L not 4.7L as he told me. But either way, it's got some torque and runs good enough for the moment, so that's all I care about. Gas mileage is shitty, but that was expected.
It's just the '91+ style open cooling system like the HO 4.0's have. The only difference is, instead of a filler cap on the radiator, I have a Moroso filler neck spliced into the upper radiator hose. Otherwise works the exact same.
