+Michael Barber you usually can find the routing right in the engine bay.

Was it making a winding sound before you replaced it?

Thanks for watching. We made this video for educational purposes however when a belt needs to be replaced they become cracked and do make a winding squeaking  type of noise.1aauto.com 888-844-3393

+Jaime Potter That's awesome Jaime, good on you and thanks for letting us know your project was a success.

The whole air chisel idea..... Genius! The rented tool removal, it's a no good.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64
I too will have that in my bag of tricks, and laugh the next time I need it..I have an identical truck and identical repair with the water pump of which your video was immeasurably helpful.  Long story short; done right on the first attempt. The only difference is I applied a thin bead of RTV sealant around the seal of the wp gasket, and the thermostat mating surfaces.Annoying coolant leak and overheat at idle issue solved.

+Jacob Wheeler We agree Jacob. Chris K. is an automotive technician with loads of experience and he advises us on certain issues. While we'd love to take credit for being geniuses that little short-cut comes from him. The first time we saw it done we reacted just like you did. Like OMG! We've used it on every huge, stuck, nut we can find.

thanks for this video! Just replaced the water pump on my 07 5.7l 1500 SLT USING your tips and only changed 3 things based on personal preference which was I drained it by the drain valve on the radiator , I already had a spanner tool which I used in place of the impact wrench idea (genius by the way) also I had a new water pump so instead of a cardboard template I took 1 bolt out and placed it in the same slot in the new one and once I pulled the old pump I then transferred them all to the old pump and that then became my guide/template for putting each one back correctly! Thanks again...... btw it was 2.5 hours which also included me changing the oil and filter while I was getting messy anyways :) oh it also took a bit of time to get the antifreeze circulation to be air free but after about 10 minutes it took all the fluid and didn't overflow and the heater core was no longer girgling!

Outstanding video - - nice job. Getting ready to do mine this weekend; I have the same coolant leak. I was planning on coating the gasket and aluminum mating surfaces with a thin layer of Permatex water pump gasket sealer .. a black paste that comes in a tube. Any reason why it wouldn't be a good idea to do this?

+dirtyshirtinfoThanks for the feedback -- great suggestion about focusing on the torqueing pattern and working up to the specs in 2 passes . . .
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-P1vbHtzDC-Q/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAFM/Jb-Whb6vSNU/photo.jpg?sz=64
Thanks for the kind words Gary.  We discussed your Permatex plans and to be honest we're not sure.  Although none of us felt it would hurt anything we also agreed that it's probably not necessary (we used no gasket sealer).  Our impression of the gasket that came with the part was that it was high quality and the design seems superior to the old flat style gaskets that require sealer. We believe the best thing you can do for your project it to correctly torque the pump bolts by establishing a tightening pattern and working the pressures up in two passes until the final torque specification is reached.Best wishes on your project.

Thanks so much for the tip about inserting the belt on the left side of the fan. Yours is the only video that includes that vital information. That's the only way to route the belt around the water pump correctly. I wish I had known that when first attempting to replace the belt; it would have saved me a lot of time spent trying to figure it out.
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-sr5Njx-l7EU/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAa-Q/aAUBPOc0eN8/photo.jpg?sz=64
Awesome,  I'm glad it helped.  I try to include things that I may have missed myself somewhere along the way.  Thanks for the comment.

Thank you but I read all the comments an got my answer an I found that some bearings were missing...
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-sr5Njx-l7EU/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAa-Q/aAUBPOc0eN8/photo.jpg?sz=64
With the belt off, grab hold of each pulley and give it a good wiggle.  You could have a bad bearing.  Often times its the idler pulley.  Good luck!

It would be a big help to get rid of that pos fan and put a electric fan on it. I'm using a factory dual fan off a 02 concord on my 00 s10 4.3 and it has been the best thing I've done to it.
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-sr5Njx-l7EU/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAa-Q/aAUBPOc0eN8/photo.jpg?sz=64

As easy as changing a serpentine belt is, I still used another one of your videos as a reference to maintain my blazer, thanks again! My next task is changing the speed sensor on the front right wheel, I haven't found a good video for this yet, and have never done one, should be fun :)
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-sr5Njx-l7EU/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAa-Q/aAUBPOc0eN8/photo.jpg?sz=64
Post a vid for the rest of us! Actually, are you talking the ABS sensor? If so, you might be able to get a good look at it on my ball joint vid. I'd have to look becuase I usually try to keep the vids somewhat short by editing stuff out. I know sometimes slop the bearing can cause the ABS to do it's thing. A new bearing assembly should have a new sensor pre installed. Thanks for takkng the time to leave a comment!
