I have the exact same year and model etc . . . Love the car, but I really cant stand those bumpers . I just ordered a 916-style front bumper, and a 914 GT rear bumper, both fiberglass. The unfortunate thing about the Original Rubber type bumpers - they cant be restored. Only thing that can be done is Spraying the hell out of em with Tire Shine . .

I had a 73 914 2.0 in yellow with 916 front and rear bumpers. Rebuilt motor with dual weber carbs. Yes those valves are loose. I used to do valve adjustments about every three months, to keep it running well... Sure was a fun car..
