For a while, I wanted to quickly review my primary machine, the Toshiba Qosmio X505-Q8102X. Detailed specifications are as follows: ---- (From the Owner's ...
I have this same laptop and love it. When sitting at my desk, I use an
external monitor and can get 1080p from the graphics card quite nicely. In
SWTOR, I use all highest settings and still get 45+ fps at 1080p. One
question I have, since you seem to be very comfortable with the hardware
itself. Do you know where I can find replacement fans for this thing? I've
been dealing with relly loud CPU fan noise for a while and searching the
web shows others deal with the same thing from this series.
But I haven't been able to find a suitable fan replacement for it. The
local Toshiba repair rep center tends to not return my calls or emails
whenever I ask about the fans, so that makes me feel like it's not a
desirable fix for them to work on. It's at the point now though, where I'm
willing to risk digging in through the complicated structure of this laptop
to get to the fans and replace them myself. But, I still need to find the
right fans to replace them with. Any advice you can give?
I can direct you to a local business in my city that salvages OEM parts
from broken, etc. laptops, and saves the parts that work to sell on places
like eBay. PM me if you want the URL to their eBay store. I'm pretty sure
that, after sifting a little, you can find the right fan. I purchased a
Screw Set from them, earlier, and a Hard Drive Caddy. All for the X505. So
you should be able to find it.
I'm afraid the easiest way to fix this is to backup your data and
re-install Windows, assuming you're talking about deleting your Recovery
Partition. You can set up a new partition with some tools but from what
I've seen, the fix is only temporary. Otherwise, you'd have to really know
what you're doing.
