2015 Land Rover Discovery Sport | Driven: Car Reviews | The New York Times
Most Land Rovers will live out their days on the pavement, but features packed into the Discovery Sport allow it to play off road when it needs to. Produced by: ...
I'm really torn between the Discovery, the MB GLC, Lincoln MKC, or the
Lexus NX. Please help me choose between those 4 options. My top priority is
quiet and luxurious ride. I hate road noise, wind noise, and harsh
suspension.
+Vincent2wice Except Indians don't have any part in the manufacturing in either Jaguar or Land Rover.Tata motors are merely the main share holders,it's a British company and product.
+Collins Kiogothi Stop being a Racist....Indians make excellent stuff...Tata Motors have been renowned for genius electric engineering and for strong trucks....5 hour energy drink? Indian Man invented it
+Collins Kiogothi you dont make improvements when you are the best in the game. This discovery is 10x better than the older discovery, very much so when it comes to style
+coolsdon But then again let me mention that the debate was not centered on quantitative goals for the company, but qualitative. You're definitely right, I understand that sales have been going strong for a while now, and they have just now began to subside. The debate was whether the leadership of Tata would take the company on a path where results that we have grown accustomed to from Land Rover specifically (they wouldn't date touch Jaguar), would begin to erode and the automaker would just become another 'off-road' manufacture. Albeit that would take some time, maybe at least 5 years into the future before we can notice anything. I would like you to also observe the other aspects of the discussion
+Collins Kiogothi Er,Jaguar Land Rover sales are up in the Middle East,Europe and North America.Hardly sales figures that reflect a company "...gone by the wayside".The only place in the world that 'carp on' about reliability is 'murica which seems fit not to update it's references from 20 years ago!! The motor market has never been more competitive,do you seriously believe that a car company like Jaguar/Range Rover could survive selling expensive luxury vehicles that were unreliable, let alone with its factories at full stretch?? I'm on a waiting list for an Evoque.I have read your comments and they are not accurate.
+coolsdon Yes, that's true they really are. The majority of these sales are happening in Asia though, but that is not what me and mr jon doe were discussing. The issue at hand is quality, lol. Will you be our unbiased observer and (hopefully) read through our previous comments and provide your opinions? :)Also yes Tata is keen to not influence LJR as I had mentioned..it is an important business strategy for them not to
+Jon Doe Hahahaha! Wow, I am in shock that you resorted to the response that you just gave!! Lol, and here I thought you were worthy of a good debate based on things actually going on in the world. Please let me know your ageIf you also compare our responses I gave you nothing but facts and what is common knowledge!! I told you to reference the JD power study, I gave you exact sales figures (google them), and I gave you straight facts about China!! Plus their economic growth is true..go online and see..and America is still growing despite Eurozone woes. So I don't know what you mean I am using 'biased, bigoted and predetermined opinions'. That is exactly what you have been doing all along...Please go read more on the topic of doing business in China and the economics of trade with the 'west and the rest'. I am appalled by your ignorance!! Hahaha, it's very amusing as wellI am not a racist against these eastern peoples by any means and you are clearly now stating these are my beliefs when I have not explicitly said so..but you are entitled to your opinion so to each his own. By the way what even interests you on YouTube? Your profile is very plain I can't even begin to gauge you...I am solely judging you based on your outrageous statements. I would like to also thank you for giving me great entertainment with these comments, I hope you never stop responding..lol!!Ok so here I will try to explain it to you again.1. When did I say Chinese sales do not count? When did I say Asian people are stupid? Your ignorance said so.. not me. Again, please lookup more information on the emerging Chinese middle class and how they are enamored by american/european culture!! Money is money like you said and I did agree with you so quit backtracking on your comments. Business does not recognize any prejudice.2.Did I say 'Indian people can't make cars because they are Indian people'? Nope your crazy self made this up. Do not reflect your own sentiments on me. Tata does not exactly have a great track record in terms of dependability..so there's that. You can go ask many Indians in INDIA and they will tell you the same thing.3. There IS a correlation of price and quality. But that is irrelevant here because I clearly told you that other SUV's in this LR's class should be considered (and they'd win). Frankly, a car that should run you $45k does not look like this.. Ever heard of getting the biggest bang for your buck?4. Yes!! You finally understand something that I try to explain to you. But they are not "different cars" because I said so!!! Hahaha. They are different cars because THEY ARE different cars. One is a luxury model and one is a bargain model!! Hence Honda - Acura, Lincoln - Ford, Toyota - Lexus - Scion, GM - Cadillac, Nissan - Infiniti, VW - Audi and the Hyundai investment group is trying to do the same with KIA -HYUNDAI. Would you say those examples I gave you are the same thing? VW & Audi?? Toyota - Lexus?? Haha WAKE UP!!! Doesn't matter if they're 'girl cars' to you..I want you to understand that they are two different cars..and that was my original point to begin with.I will be looking forward to reading your response so please include FACTS and be sure to make it good.
+Collins Kiogothi Like I said, you are implying racist ignorant stereotypes against the owners of newly acquired Automotive Brands using biased, bigoted and predetermined opinions. Now you are trying to discredit the legitimacy of facts I provided by giving irrelevant explanations/examples. However, your message remains the same, so let me break it down so you can easier understand what you have been really saying;1. Sales in China does not count because Asian people are stupid. 2. Indian people can't make cars because they are Indian people. 3. Price is what dictates quality? because you say so.. 4. Ford/Lincoln, Toyota/Lexus are the same company, use the same engineering, engine, platform, parts, same everything but they are "different Cars" because you say so.. We both know what you have been implying all along, stop lying and just say it. Oh.. and fyi, Toyota/Lexus makes the best Cars hands down, i just don't like how they look and personally I feel like they're girl cars. I know because my wife drives one (the RX) she was the one that actually picked me up when my ML 350 stalled out. It was embarrassing.. i admit
+Jon Doe I'll try to break it down and answer these questions for you the best I can so you can be able to understand. 1. Poverty in China and sales in that country are very important for investors because a. the people will now have money to spend b. china has the largest population in the world c. they have a large appetite for luxury western cars. Thus Buicks and other American cars doing extremely well in China and not at home... There are no prejudices as such that you are implying when it comes to doing business..money is money as you say. Western culture is gaining much traction there as the middle class expands and they are only wanting to buy luxurious goods. They are not so much concerned about quality as someone in lets say germany would be, but the 'westernness' that comes with it..please understand this.2. Is this video not a clear example? A luxury SUV that will run you about $45k for an average model and this is what you get? I'd very much opt for an Audi or BMW thank you very much.. As for the flagship of LJR the Range Rover & Jaguars, we'll have to see what they do with it for the next 5 years. Tata is very careful to not influence it as their reputation is not as favorable as LJR's.3. The figures I gave you for the xc90 you are going crazy for were US sales. The economy has long rebounded since the crash and it was roaring the whole of 2014. World economy is not as healthy but the biggest auto markets (US, Eurozone, China) still have a demand, except for maybe the Eurozone. Therefore investors are keen to move to China..and US market is already saturated and brands are already established. It's not foolish to compare sales with 2004 because as I stated that the year was a peak for Volvo with the xc90..it has been downhill from there. Sales were almost 11,000 in 2011, and in 2014 they were 3,952. It is very sad..4. I hope you're looking at the same information as I..go to google and search JD Power vehicle dependability study 2015 then click images and hit the first image of a bar chart that comes up. Audi is certainly not below Ford in terms of dependability..and as for Lincoln..Ford realizes that this is its own separate line. Just as you would say Lexus and Toyota are very separate. They may use the same fundamental foundations for the cars..but they are intrinsically different. So I don't understand your reasoning for "Its the same car, so yeah..". Even the guys at Ford clearly state “Lincoln will still be a good value, but we want to be considered in the same mindset as a Lexus or Mercedes-Benz,” You can hardly say the same about Ford..5. Kia has what? Please tell me who or what gives you this type of information..Their sales may be up but they are definitely not on the same level as Japanese producers. This type of wishful thinking in consumers is exactly what their strategy is if you have paid attention to their clever marketing (Kia & Hyundai which is basically same investment group)I watched this video because I am a Land Rover fan and I enjoy everything about their brand. Is everybody who is a casual YouTube user restricted from watching a car review video if they are not planning to purchase the vehicle? There is no strong sentiment towards owners..if Tata can build on the LJR name then so be it..I will remain a loyal fan. But I look at the matter as it is, not how a special interest group wants me to see it
+Collins Kiogothi 1. How is sales in China and poverty even relevant? Money is Money, dont matter where from. Again.. what are implying? Fake sales? Doesnt count? What are you saying?2. Can you show me any real evidence quality has fallen? 3. World Economy has been down, to compare sales in 2004 is foolish.4. JD list Lincoln at #7 while Ford is listed at #25? Its the same car, so yeah.. by your own evidence Ford/Lincoln is listed at #7 above your Audi #155. Kia has surpassed Japanese vehicles in quality for the first time in 29 years. (Japanese Vehicles are world renowned, aka the standard) Kia Sales has almost doubled since the 2008 collapse and currently holds 8% of US market shares.I think your views and opinions are biased and already decided. I dont understand why you would watch a Land Rover video if you don't have any attention on purchasing the vehicle given your strong sentiment towards to owners. FYI I own a Mercedes and its garbage, my Subaru back in my younger days ran like a tank. This POS stalls randomly and can only repaired at the dealer by a "certified Tech" for a ridiculous fee of course. Hence new car! Good day sir..
+Jon Doe With the exception of Nissan, all of the automakers you mentioned have not exactly been known for their quality or even dependability. They've long been regarded as being below industry average (lookup JD Power vehicle dependability study 2015), especially Kia & Hyundai and also Land Rover but we'll leave that one for another day..I am very glad that you seem to understand the laws of supply and demand and realize the Chinese businessmen are interested in maximizing profits. But I hope you also realize that they know China's people are continually rising from poverty and their country will soon have the largest economy in the world. And they have quite an appetite for Western autos (mainly luxury eg. daimler, buick, cadillac etc).So with that context its very understandable that investors such as Zhejiang Geely Holdings & TATA Motors are keen to move production towards the east to meet demand while maintaining that "Western feel". All these sales records for Land Rover are happening in China!! Tata has been praised for supposedly 'not interfering' in LJR's operations. TATA Motors is very smart and it recognizes it can bank on LR's legendary image with China's increasingly powerful population.. You say that they have "improved significantly"..can you show me any REAL rise in quality? Am I supposed to seriously consider buying this thing if it came between an Audi Q7, BMW X5, Lexus RX350 or Benz GLK 350? No..production and demand in China have only risen and Tata realizes this to a large degree. As for the XC90 it may be a big hit and rebound but we'll have to give it some time, though consider the fact that US sales for 2015 YTD are a mere 1,108!!!! Down from a high of 39,230 in 2004, and it's only been downhill from then. Sales for 2014 were 3,952. The bulk of sales are aimed at none other than China so we'll see if your precious SUV and its owners will stick to their promises of quality..
+Collins Kiogothi We heard that about Kia, Hyundai, Nissan, Ford too at one point.A Chinese company purchased Volvo and the stereotype came as well, they said "cheap chinese junk" heard that before? of course. Now, with a little time and investment the XC90 is getting rave reviews from damn near EVERY professional in the business. It's actually what I am deciding between, hence the video.Land Rover SportBMW X5Volvo XC90Land Rover has improved significantly since being sold to Tata, Logic tells you that an equity/holding firm are in the the Business to make money. It would be counter productive to make a subpar Luxury vehicle knowing full well it's going to be critique, bashed and slammed by every hater in the business. You don't think the Indian and Chinese people are aware of people like you? These Companies brought their A game and opened up the wallets. Haters tried but Market demands proves my point. Don't be ignorant
+Collins Kiogothi Go drive a Land Rover from 10 years ago and tell me it's better.

I agree with all of this. I have already been adicted to a game called
combat arms and even got ranked 20th on 7 000 000 players. Now, I play
video games around 1 hour a day.I have to say that video games were an
addiction and made my school scores go very bad. On another hand, I learned
english (I mainly talk french). The reason why I kept playing this game was
to have a high rank so I had an actual goal but I don'T understand people
that play games like call of duty there is no community goal.
@Oplexity I also have to say that this game made to find what I want to do
in life and also, I found 2 people that wanted to study where I want to
study and in the same program. In conclusion, community games with a lot of
people playing them can be positive if they help you to learn a second
language and if you meet people. On that point of view, shouldn't we allow
our kids to play that kind of games but not too much?
I see so many adult accountants, nurses, even physicians who growing up
were so entangled in their studies they never learned how to type... I'm
sorry but hunting and pecking will not cut it in our technologically
advancing world. Much good does come out of these distractions. You just
have to trust that your child will be able to balance his work on his own,
not change the way we all live.
I think this video is extremely bias in that they aren't respecting both
sides of the argument. Yes you have kids neglecting their homework for
things like Facebook that in the end have no intellectual gain. However the
kid making strait A's is a perfect example of a kid who is so wrapped up in
his Hw he has become socially awkward to the point that he will fail in
many careers these days.
i can see the point of cell phones.....facebook could be use for networking
and connections between long distance friends....i do not see point of
video games...it might be strange for me to think like this cuz im a 16
year old guy...but i just hate video games...i think they are just a huge
waste of time....
The girl at 2:00 has no idea what she is talking about. I had a hotmail
account in highschool, in 1997, that was near instantaneous. so whatever
e-mail she had in the 6th grade was fine. she should use her phone to fact
check.
