why did he play with one stick reversed?

+Camilo P In my experience, you can get a more heavy splashy sound with the back of the stick, great to groove on Funk and Hip Hop. You can get a different sound from everthing really.

That Tama drum set is actually made from birch and bubinga (Starclassic Performer line)
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-osldMR-gH44/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAANU/rc9D-L9BZLM/photo.jpg?sz=64
+TheMG Yes, I know that Tama has those lines and also the Starclassic Performer, but that badge design is only found on the Starclassic Performer (this year, I believe, they launched a new badge design for the Starclassic Performer) Also, at the beginning of the video you can see the lighter birch wood in the bass hoop and at 1:27 you can see the darker inner ply of bubinga. That's why it is neither a Starclassic Maple nor a Starclassic Bubinga, it is a Starclassic Performer B/B
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-4ls5gjT_xNI/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAADc/drYC6STWpvE/photo.jpg?sz=64
+Daniel Granados Quirós There is more than one kind of Tama kit on the market... Tama has a starclassic maple and a starclassic bubinga.

I don't know where you live butin Europe the best website is musicstore. i've already buy a drumset on this website and all was perfect, and they also give to me free musicstore sticks with the drum !!

please, tell me about how much this drums ?
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64
The Tama Starclassic kit that he has would go between $1500 and $2500 for a 5 piece shell pack
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64
bubinga is probably the highest lvl wood. maple is the most common
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64
Actually I think it's ebony but that's when you get into custom kits
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64
Most pro level kits don't include cymbals either actually. Almost never really.

+donteh alicea Thanks... but 5K ain't bad without any sort of promo via social networking! Plus, the low-budget quality probably keeps some folks away, but that's how I do it:)

I really want a drum set for Christmas. My friend want's to make a garage band, so this video was very helpful. Thanks! :D
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-nIHNoChSnQM/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAACQ/Dr6s5gEBQpM/photo.jpg?sz=64
+Sophie June No problem - and remember, these videos work fine once you have a REAL set as well. Plz keep tuning in - Thanks!
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64
Very cool. I have drums but they suck lol. My old drum teacher(well some random guy that gave me one lesson) said he learnt by drumming on old records he had.
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-nIHNoChSnQM/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAACQ/Dr6s5gEBQpM/photo.jpg?sz=64
+Nathan McCrea hahaha....hey at least you HAVE drums - remember, it's not the quality of the drums but the quality of the drummer (that's you!). I've heard some amazing drummers get behind toy kits and tear it up!
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-mhQ8kEHCwLw/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAATg/-76UFuKWbow/photo.jpg?sz=64
could you use a rock band drum set?
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-nIHNoChSnQM/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAACQ/Dr6s5gEBQpM/photo.jpg?sz=64
+tori child Sure, from what I remember (I played that game one time) the drum set is just like pads, so that should work....BUT, I think playing along with the game encourages bad habits. In order to line up with the groove in the game, you have to play ahead of the beat (sooner than you should be hitting the pads), which would make you rush (speed up the tempo). So I would use the pads as your drum kit to follow along with my lessons. Thanks for the comment!
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-SQZwsZ3Fw9E/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAABM4/pNjlp6IUA4E/photo.jpg?sz=64
These are really good :) I'm loving this series. I've been wanting to play drums for a while but there are no teachers where I live and other online stuff are very complicated. Thank you for making this easy, and I'm taking your advice and working hard at this so my mom will allow me to get an actual drum kit. :) All the best!
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-nIHNoChSnQM/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAACQ/Dr6s5gEBQpM/photo.jpg?sz=64
+Uta Kaneki That's exactly the idea...let me know if you impress your mom so much with your dedication/drumming skills that she goes for it and gets you a kit. But remember, these lessons still work great on an actual drum set, too! Thanks for the comment!

I used to have the first one, and after replacing the heads and tuning the drums, it sounded pretty good. Now, it wasn't anywhere near to what a cheaper Pearl would sound like, but for the price it was great.

Hardest part for me here is remembering the crash is the start of beat one. So fill to beat transition is kinda sloppy still. Definitely a great beginner vid!

Jazz drum set Soloing for Beginners

Learning to play melodic soloing in the jazz idiom using only quarter notes and minimal jazz ride cymbal independence.

Jason - Many thanks for this. I've been playing rock & country for over 20 years and am now finally taking the plunge into jazz. This is exactly what I needed. I've always known in the back of my mind that a solo should be melodic in nature, but have never made a conscious decision to do so. With my limited jazz chops, keeping things to quarter notes right now is a great idea and still give me a lot of things to chew on. I'm really grateful for this video.
https://gp4.googleusercontent.com/-dN_xr1d1jbU/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/LffA5EwqNEc/s48-c-k-no/photo.jpg?sz=64
Great Info and well said Jason like the drum videos I play different from most drummers check my drum channel and see why I am just starting to learn Jazz and Swing Drumming ! My channel is ///PalmTreesAndDrumming ,,,,and I Subscribed !

lovely tuning. I'm not usually a fan of the highly tuned toms and especially bass drum but you have the intervals so well done it sounds more like a double bass :D nice work (also much better ride on this one hehe)
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64
Jason, thank you for taking the time to explain the Jazz beat... As a real beginner I really appreciate your explanations and advise... And I just learned something from your site...

@thomhaug - nothing happened to it. The drum heads are calf and you can see the hide color patterns sometimes depending on the amount of bleaching.

i think just the camera makes it sound bad to me. I dont doubt that its a good ride, it probably is. Yeah, i definitely think its the camera
https://i1.ytimg.com/i/h3EpdNTKOMKx2aCHNlObXw/1.jpg?sz=64
What kind of ride cymbal are you using? Obviously it's a Zildjian K, but what specific model? Also I'm guessing it's a 22"?
