I've been struggling a little with my irons lately and I think it's because
my backswing is too flat. I'm 16 and I'm trying to get better at golf I
shoot in the high 80s or low 90s. I don't "feel" like I'm flat, but I
recorded my swing the other day and saw that it was very flat. I'm trying
to get it steeper like Sean Foley teaches, but I can't seem to do it. I try
to swing steeper but then I watch the video and I'm still too flat. I feel
like I need an instructor to help me out in person.
So, I have two guys in the UK saying "flat left wrist at the top" and Mr.
Hogan (i.e., one of the greatest ball-strikers in the history of the game)
saying "cupped left wrist at the top." Hmmm, how many majors have these
guys won?
+Chet Koczynski Hogan struggled with a debilitating hook prior to utilizing a "slight" cup in his left wrist at the top. Only one Hogan... Chet, don't be a wanker!

The hula hoop analogy is wrong as that only applies if low point is at
bottom of arc and with an iron it wouldn't be so path would be a lot more
inside to out when moving the pencil back an inch or 2 from low point.
+Mark CrossfieldOk. So all things being equal a flatter sweet spot plane will result in a more rightward path of impact is before low point. Upwards of low point would be the complete opposite
The tune was written by Slim Gaillard of Slim and Slam (Slam Stewart), who
wrote and performed many racy tunes of the day. Slam Stewart pioneered
playing bass solos with a German bow and humming along an octave higher,
inspiring others like Major Holley on bass and even George Benson on guitar
years later. Check 'em out!
@zola78rpm Indeed - the "flat foot floogee" was slang for a bombastic,
uncouth woman. The "floy floy" was the disease. I love dancing to this
song, but knowing the meaning does slightly ruin it for me.
Swing on ... watching this movie, and now realizing this year... christian
Bale aka Batman or 3:10 to Yuma, and Dr. House's best friend were the main
cast in this movie.... wow, amazing
Benny Goodman grew up with yiddish speaking parents. So did Harry James,
Artie Shaw and many others. 'Floy' is yiddish for flea in case anyone wants
to know.
