The female panelist has it completely wrong, oem companies are cheap and have proven to use lessor quality fasteners to save money. Car manufactures are looking for quantity not quality. bean counters

Dirk, I have the same machine with only 900 miles. I haven't road in a couple years. I went to check the oil and it wasn't touching the dip stick. No leaks and the sled is stored indoors. What would cause this to happen? Would it still be safe to start the engine before changing the oil using your method?

This is perfectly normal. When the sled sits for a while, the oil naturally travels back into the lower point of the oiling system which is the hoses and the engine sump. Go ahead and start it, you'll be fine.Thanks for watching,

Paint it! Even spray paint. I've painted motorcycles and it turned out well. If you'd like some pictures of my budget projects, let me know. I do cheap projects like this almost annually. Last was a moped.

A professional mechanic would do almost the same thing you did with the spark plug wires. Expect for safety we normally pull the spark plug wire when the engine is off then start the engine. Your way is faster but it would scare me, especially on new cars.
