Breaking the Spirit of Poverty (Part 1)
This is a series that was taught at one of my Face to Face conferences. From it, you will learn, Saints, that there is No Lack in heaven and that God's economy is ...
How Men Can Break the Cycle of Poverty in Kenya
TakePart World producer Alex Stapleton visits the county's district hospital, where men are encouraged to be a part of the family planning process in hopes of ...
Most of the problems of this world can be traced back to shit parents. I
also believe that sports do build character. You sound like a good dad,
keep it up. The next biggest hurdle after money is drugs. I actually just
read an article that shows Vermont has the highest illict drug use per
capita. No matter the social class, location, or school, drugs will be
there, I guarantee it. You have to actively teach them about it and watch
them closely. Parents always think, "not my kids." But it happens
Start where you live. Values in children are more often caught than taught.
They learn more by example than they ever will be listening to you speak.
In that sense, just be there. Be stable. Be a father, a leader, and a
guide. Be a resource, a rock, and part of the two-person security all kids
need. Know your neighbors, extend your hand, off your help. Identify those
groups and organizations in your area that are doing things that
significantly impact your community for the good & support them.
Continue: The economic crise hasn´t really affected Sweden that much. I
would say that no one notices a difference between 2007 and today. Probably
the other way around. people make more money and are taxed lower today than
5 years ago. The information we get of the situation in the US, is either
on a high level (government, state etc) or at level of the poor. Basically
in the form of statistics. But we never get to hear it from the middle
class point of view. Thats why its good (but sad)...
Witness the people who can walk into a convenience store week after week
with no job and still afford to buy smokes, lottery tickets, and beer. To
really get at solutions, it's going to require a dropping of all of these
meticulously built up easy rationalizations for why life is the way it is.
It'll require pain, correction, and hard work. It'll require a willingness
to come to terms with human nature in its raw form rather than the
self-esteem driven explanation of it we have now. CONT'D...
The lottery. Now there is something that is supposed to be a good thing,
right?!? The lottery is a reflection of American ociety- does one person
really need 400 million dollars. No. It would be better to split the
winnings up to 1000 or 10000 people and spread the wealth so to speak.
Cigarettes.I dispise Beer. Can be okay if in moderation, but when is that
the case and you don't get much on your return, haha Nice thoughts- good
advice, young people listen up here- words of wisdom, thanks SF
But like I said, human being don't want solutions. They want programs and
payments. They want rationalizations and therapy sessions. They don't want
to experience correction (in the economy or in their own life). They don't
want to work hard. For the most part, they don't want to aim higher if they
don't have to. And they certainly don't want to bend their knee to another
because they see their own inadequacy and need for a Savior from
themselves. Mark my words, people don't want solutions.
If one wants out of poverty they study money and wealth cycles, if they
follow their poor parents and work hard and save in devalued currency then
their wealth ferments and erodes overtime. On the other hand the wealthy
have financial advisers who are savvy to jump from overvalued to
undervalued assets so their wealth doesn't lose momentum. It all begins
with the right mindset and the hunger for change, the engine of success
doesn't use self-pity as fuel. So many have eyes but do not see.
Indeed. I don't have to look far. Plenty of people in my immediate family
are exactly like the ones you described at your buddies store. It sure is
difficult to get ahead when so many are pulling you down. Thankfully, my
persistence & enthusiasm in what I'm trying to accomplish for myself (and
daughter), is keeping my goals clear. I get daily reminders of what I'm
trying to avoid. Aside: If you help to much, you're enabling. If you don't,
you're heartless. Either way you lose with them..
That is not to say that your plea for solutions isn't genuine. I'm speaking
in generalities here. We spend most of our time trying to reward all people
for all things and avoid even a hint of sanction or stigma for the behavior
or outcomes in the lives of anyone who can't be rewarded. Instead, we rob
other without their consent and give it to those who have destroyed their
lives, as if they are somehow victims. For example, a story in the New York
Times regarding poverty said, ...CONT'D
I am fortunate enough to have been raised with parents that make me work
for my money. I have never asked my parents for money it never really even
crosses my mind but if I could give one tip, and it sounds like you are
doing this is give your kids the opportunity to make money with jobs and
stuff like that if you can... I know I would take up the offer. And yes our
country is in a pretty bad place today but what we need are people like you
to teach people not to rely on the government.
I grew up poor. I made A LOT of BAD financial decisions in my past because
I was not financially educated growing up. Now the youngest of four boys in
my early 40's, I'm the ONLY one who has a retirement account and investing
in my financial future with PM's. My parents rely on my dad's partial
pension and SS. Two of my 3 brothers are unempolyed and can't find work
with NO SAVINGS AT ALL and the other one is on disabliity with NO SAVINGS
AT ALL!! Self education is the key to freedom.
What I'm saying is that we've lost the ability to even tell each other the
truth about reality. We've lost the ability to call on one another to take
personal responsibility for our actions, despite how we were birth, raised,
or grew up. We've lost the desire to see our fellow citizens aim higher,
work harder, and act wisely with the fruits of their labor. Instead,
everyone is someone else's victim, and somehow everyone deserves something
that they didn't earn. CONT'D...
Solutions? People don't really want solutions. Witness what is going on in
our government and the coverage of the same. One side is trying to cut the
spending, but their credibility is so far gone that no one can even begin
to believe that their intentions are good. The other side is willing to
take us over the cliff because they know that doing so will take us deeper
into crisis and ensconce them even more firmly in power. People really
don't want solutions. CONT'D...
