Police say Waze traffic app could put officers at risk
Law enforcement officers want to put the brakes on a feature of a popular navigation app. It lets users self-report traffic jams, accidents and even the location of ...
I'm surprised the police aren't taking advantage of this. They could just
have a couple people every morning going out and making mass reports of
police out on the roads. You see cop icons all over the place and you
suddenly realize that the icons can't be trusted.
So let me get this straight...
Law enforcement is capable of and allowed to keep surveillance of citizens
every day and that isn't a problem to them. Then somebody creates an app
where citizens can keep surveillance of police, and suddenly it's an issue?
Yeah, either keeping unconstitutional surveillance over people is
permissible or it's not.
+PandaCoasters it's not really surveillanceit reports cops that are in plain sight along the roadthis is all about them not making revenue by writing tickets. and not getting free overtime money sitting in court
+Momo Fofo Told a friend about it a few months ago when he was driving from Palm Beach to Key West. When he got back he told me that it saved him from 4 tickets.
ACLU Releases "Police Tape" Android App
"The New Jersey chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU-NJ) has just released "Police Tape," an Android phone app that allows people to securely ...
Where I live(TN) police officers was making a car full of guys do jumping
jacks because they called him fat after cops called them slobs.Ppl standing
accros the street started making vids of this with their phones, not
because they were pissed off at the cop,but because there were 6 guys doing
jumping jacks next to an interstate.Upon finding out,the officers, took the
phones then mailed them back a week later with the vid missing! However
audio from the dash cam got him put on a months PAID leave
Springfield, like I said, police issued Tazers are set for 5 seconds. An
officer would have to hit the trigger multiple times to get to that minute
that you are claiming. Also, like I said, each Tazer has a memory download.
Regardless of what civilians think, they must be downloaded. That
information is available. Police do have rules and regulations in place and
they are strictly enforced. I know a little about this topic. The problem
is that all people will do wrong until they get caught.
i hate ppl who think ALL cops are just absolute angels!!! putting a badge
on youre chest DOES NOT change who you are inside. if you were a
biggot..now youre a biggot with a badge,if you were a pedophile...now youre
a chester with a badge,if you were a gang banger....now youre a gang banger
with a badge. A badge is made of metal...its not a harry potter magical
spell. it doesnt change who you are inside. ABSOLUTE POWER carrupts
ABSOLUTLEY!! UNCHECKED POWER runs amuck!! CHECKS AND BALANCE!!!
As a matter of fact, they did hit it multiple times...they tazed me 3
times. It's in the police reports. Whatever memory download u think they
have, it obviously didn't detour them from layin in to my ass with a tazer.
Again, dont tell me what police can and cant do. I was arrested on a DUI
back in 09 and kept detained for 10 hours BEFORE even given the breath test
and I didn't drink at all. Do u consider that "strict rules"? U really
don't know what ure talking about.
You assume that the police care more about their actual jobs SHOULD BE. As
opposed to what they want to do which is murder, and rape and torture with
impunity! Of course the police are a bunch of fascist ass holes who behave
like SS brown shirts. Just because they wear blue instead of jack boots and
the swastika is beside the point. Next we'll have the police shooting
people because they were filming them claiming that filming is a terrorist
activity or something.
What the fuck has workers unions got to do with police? while we're on it
that happened because of the greed of the RICH UNION LEADERS not the
poor.so even your irrelevant points are wrong. Police are more likely to
commit a crime per 1000 of the population because of corruption, ask the CO
of British police or the ICC. finally (a relevant point). Police don't
harass real criminals because CRIMINALS KNOW THE LAW they arrest innocents
to meet performance quotas.
It just takes 2 back clicks to get to the "upload now or just quit,
please". Also, after you run the app, make sure you force quit it or use
Advanced Task Killer to stop the app. That way when you start the app up
again, it will start recording but leave your desktop looking normal (to
you, of course) until you back click twice. Other than that, I had no
troubles with the app itself.
I was arrested for recording Hawthorne Police on 11-9-2012, and spent four
days in jail before having to pay bail, despite having done nothing
illegal. I found out after my release, I am charged with obstruction of
justice, resisting arrest, and other things. Click my name, its my most
recent upload, 2 minutes long. I am completely polite, cooperative, yet
resisted arrest.
I won't go to jail for this. If I get arrested for it then the cop and his
police department will be hit with a false arrest lawsuit. Videotaping an
officer while performing their duty is a constitutionally protected right
of the citizens. If you're an employee of the dept. of homeland security
you should know that because you should have received training on it.
Downloaded the App while listening to this Youtube. Well it's Legit, its
easy to navigate and is so easy to work. You can not only record Video but
also just Audio and have an option to either delete or agree to send to the
database, I guess in case its nothing illegal then you do have the option
to erase the stop. Interesting App and I'm going to keep it.
Certainly. Individual cops, gang mentality within the police force,
accountability issues, systemic problems, as well as social/public
problems. It's a mess, to be sure. The problems are escalating. Fixing it
isn't going to be easy (or popular), but it needs to be done. The U.S. is
already a police state (statistically, though contrary to popular opinion).
and since your so smart and intellectual why don't you look at the real
research into abuse of authority power, Zimbardo (1973) but if you dont
understand referencing try Zimbardos prison experiment. mind you you'll
probably deny it even when there is proof, this is a phenomena that can be
found in Asch, S (1951) conformity study ..... good day smartass
People!!! please understand that the individuals that comment on here that
thinks that no matter what' police officers are justified in their actions'
remember this. Not all police officers suffer from this type of nonsense.
And the ones that do and the idiots that share's their views probably have
family members that are cops AND THEY HATE YOU!!!!!
Hold the bastard cops to the fire.....too many of them are evil ass holes
with an anormous chip on their shoulder. They lie, cheat, steal and do
countless other crimes without any recourse against them. They protect each
other eventhough they all know what was done was illegal and wrong!! Most
are not worth a squirt of piss.....
not only will they do wrong until they are caught, the bigger problem is
the lack of accountabiltiy once they are caught and the code of silence
which protects them from being prosecuted. just think of all the vile and
reprehensible crime the police were able to get away with before the
proliferation of video tech...
you dont think cops are criminals? how can you tell whos a criminal?
liberals dont want fat cats they want people to make collective decisions
from smaller goverment groups ... you are possibly the most ignorant and
stuck up person ive ever talked to and i bet your loaded and you think that
makes you smart ?
And this is the reason that we should simply eliminate police forces from
all municipalities', counties', and states' budgets. Think of what
politicians could spend all that newly available funding on. Police are
useless and bad so let's just get rid of that job in society....at least
according to the ACLU.
The police tazer is max 5 seconds. It may have felt like a minute though.
;) All tazers keep a history that must be downloaded and saved. If you feel
you were abused you can make the complaint and IA will pull those records
to verify your story.
Sorry, but the First Amendment does not apply to terrorism. The Supreme
Court will be ruling in our favor on this, and any use of a recording
device on law enforcement will be deemed a terrorist act.
Well, it just so happens that there are cops who are abusing their powers.
This app is here to maximize the chances that they be held accountable and,
as a result, their numbers diminish.
idk the stealth part seems to just ruin it, i mean the phone out and
pointed at them gives it away already and the blacked out screen can make
me miss out framing something important
I was going to "share" this, until they started talking about home made
porn. Don't get me wrong, that stuff is great, just not particularly
compatible with the issue at ...hand.
To the fools that are on here slamming the ACLU on this victory' you're a
coward(racist at that!) and a total JERK-OFF!!!. People' these morons are
the afterbirth of the country.
Alright, the black screen is for Audio, the Video is not a black screen as
you do in fact have to see what you are recording lol this should answer
the guy's question at 1:50
Good Question. My first thought was if I downloaded it, I would want to try
it out first, which means they would get junk video. Let alone people who
would want to spam.
It's called the 1st amendment. Google glik v. city of boston and read why
it's unconstitutional to arrest someone for videotaping an officer while
performing their duty.
Nor does the constitution say anything about newspapers, books,
sign-language, e-mails, plays, etc... It says freedom of speech, which
covers all those and more.
so you believe video is not communication? your a joke.. the Constitution
is a Living document & certainly video is not out of the realm of the first
amendment..
1st: If I took a racy video... 2nd: There are worse people to get a hold of
your racy "videos" Conclusion, Ana has made multiple racy videos. Joy to

These days if a cop sees you with a cell phone in your hand recording something, you could very well get arrested, even though in all but three states, it's not ...
no video recording ? a student loan ?? u gotta be kidding !! what a police
state this is now... I have no reservations with people using extreme force
to resist police violence ..they are no longer a legitimate police force
they are now a militarized totalitarian terrorist force and deserve no
respect or consideration..do what u have to to protect yourself against
them..just because they have a badge doesn't make them legit ... u r not
morally bound to obey their "authority"
...Riddle me this xadamTWOdud3x, Arp3rtur3TWO-THOUSAND-AND-EIGHT, or
clawb0gTWO...why doesn't RUSSIAToday encourage RUSSIANS to download this
App, to record THEIR encounters and assure protection from THEIR "Top
Notch", "Never Abusive" or utilizing excessive force, Russian police
squads?? Because this is propaganda fuckery, that's why. "Do as we say, NOT
as we do...RTДмзя1кд!"
@Daisy4Loka you know what else it needs is a way to start the description
or have a quick default BEFORE you start recording so that on a single TAP
after it will do the upload with no delay and no way to grab the phone to
stop it. I've had a phone kicked out of my hand under attack while trying
to call 911. It's not easy. Good thing I had a knife or I'd be dead.
...BUT, the ONLY ones hidin' shit, 'round here are Alyona and RTДмзя1кд.
THEY are "...too afraid of the truth to let it get exposed..."; so, they
add their Russian Propaganda twist of half-truths and hypocrisies, and you
suckers EAT it up. Just like the so called "sheeple" and their MSM...The
Y0UT00B3R1 is fooled by NONE of it...The Y0UT00B3R1 transcends...
@derekox because they are breaking the law.. if you want to be treated like
a slave of the state and don't want your rights then go for it but not
everyone wants to live in a police state ..that u have no understanding of
that makes u the perfect citizen under the totalitarian state and enabler
of brutal dictators throughout history
The RTДмзя1кд fanboys are funny, and a "mass" of something,
alright...Hurp-durp, burp-biccup... Nowhere in THIS comment section have I
(until now, only forced to clarify...) mentioned ANYthing about
"propaganda". I just found Alyona's burp/hiccup hybrid amusing...apparently
this was "the last straw" for clawb0gTWO...
@derekox - because every time I leave the bloody house after sundown, they
pull me over, detain, interrogate and frisk me. For being outside after
sundown. I don't do drugs, drink, smoke... nothing. Their abuse of
authority makes it my business, and makes it yours, too.
@clawbog2 he is one of the masses too afraid of the truth to let it get
exposed in the public eye....he comes from a long line of people that have
enabled tyrants and oppressive governments they are the perfect stooges to
the totalitarian state
Every black man in the country is gonna need this on their phone lol. Shit
that's so freaking smart. However, corrupt cops can still evade
consequences because they have so many laws protecting them.
Qik is better because it LIVE STREAMS audio and video. This kind of thing
allows cops to to seize your phone if they can get to it. With Qik, it is
ALREADY GONE while it is recording.
...The Y0UT00B3R1 has NO problem with this App, or the public's protection
from law enforcement (...which shouldn't even be necessary, or a topic of
concern, in the first place...
@Y0UT00B3R1 I don't fucking get it.... On almost every RT video I see you
rambling on about how RT reports nothing but propaganda... Why do you
bother?
Police Want Google To Ban Waze App For Officer Safety
Law enforcement officials are calling for Google to ban or alter Waze, a navigation app that allows motorists to share officers' locations. Follow Matt Moreno: ...
"Officer safety" as a reason for banning Waze is a red herring and total
bullshit. Reporting police with Waze is no different than old school CB
radio with truckers warning that Smokey's taking pictures. Or one flashing
lights to warn of police, another action that police don't like but in most
jurisdictions is perfectly legal.
If anything, Waze IMPROVES officer safety. Police warnings tend to slow
people down and therefor makes things safer for the officer who has someone
pulled over.
The ONLY reason the police don't want the citizen to be warned where they
are is because if we had that information in real time, we would then be
able to avoid the "harassment tax" and this would SEVERELY cut into the
local government's revenue stream. My 17 year old niece went to stay with
her father for the summer (as she has every year since she was an infant),
and was pulled over for some perceived (bogus) infraction. The only thing
the cop could write her a ticket for was (according to him) having the
"wrong" address on her driver's license. She successfully got this ticket
thrown out in court. She lives with her mother but visits her father for
the three months in which she has summer break from school. The cop told
her that if she were there for longer than 1 month she needs to change her
license to the different state and address. While this is the law if you
move to that state, this law was not intended to be applied in a case like
this (according to the judge she saw) as she did not move there. He also
stated that it would be a hardship if she were to have to do this every
year, both when she gets there then again when returning home to her
mother's state because she would have to do this from the age of 16 until
she graduates college. The cop had illegally pulled her over to begin with.
He claimed she had a brake light which had burnt out. She did not. Her
father is a pilot and has mirrors that hang in his garage to check all his
"equipment" before leaving home and this habit had been drilled into her
head by him as well. She called the cop on this nonsense and she said "no I
don't" because she had just inspected them 10 minutes earlier. She had even
asked me to help her install thses types of mirrors at her mother's garage
at her house so I know this is an ingrained habit. He then claimed that it
appeared to him like she did have a malfunctioning light so he thoroughly
inspected that car from top to bottom to find something to write a citation
for because he was in the wrong. The only thing he was able to find after
walking around that car for 10 minutes, calling the insurance company to
verify insurance (after seeing a current insurance card which has her
listed as "secondary"), having a police dog sniff around the car for
another 15 minutes, running the the plates, checking if the VIN matched the
plates, calling her mother to verify she had permission to drive the car,
and running her pristine (this is a responsible girl) license for warrants
and her record, was that "wrong" address. I mean, he REALLY tried to find
something to nail her with because he even checked to make sure she was
wearing shoes. The police forces in this country have been reduced to
revenue streams for local governments so they do a lot of harassing of
citizens who may or may not have committed minor traffic offenses. They can
no longer spare officers to investigate as many thefts and other real
criminal behavior or even look for as many missing people as they used to.
They are busy doing money grabs using traffic stops or by the confiscation
of citizen's property without due process to balance the city/county/state
budgets. Protect and serve, my ass. There ARE good cops out there but it
seems like the good ones are getting to be a minority of them.
+Tazhie Nunurbusinezz 90% of cops are pure scum. Alcoholics, spousal abusers, drug addicts, etc. 10% do the right thing but that percentage drops all the time.
The people who drive around in obviously marked cars with lights and sirens
attached to them, wearing blue costumes with shiny badges are afraid people
might see them? Yeah, I blame the app.
+SeKToR Understandable. I actually do not usually report live police unless it's a photo radar trap. There roads I drive frequently that have issues with people speeding. If the cops are out in person giving tickets I'm perfectly fine with that. It's when they hide behind cameras or try to catch people who pick up a bit of speed going down a hill that I have issues with
Is there any data showing that citizens knowing where their are police
officers are actually endangers the officers? The answer is no. This is a
case of the police trying to get rid of laws they have sworn to protect..
Knowing where police are is public knowledge by the way, and there are apps
that actually use the police dispatch system to do this and not just word
of mouth apps like this because of that fact. The law is like that for a
reason, for the department that is policing citizens to remain transparent
is important! If they take a right to communicate to each other where
police officers are what's next!? Gimmie a break!
I can't believe this Gestapo crap! This is America dammit!
+idonnowhattoput somehow police have got this notion that we should give up our freedoms and adapt our lives to make their jobs easier and saferwho the fuck is supposed to be doing the serving and protecting here?this is total bullshit. the cops are pissed because waze is cutting into their ticket quotas and, thus, the free overtime money they make going to courtif some terrorist or something wanted to stalk cops, all he would have to do is get one of the many police scanner apps and listen to them reporting their locations or to where they are being sentor he could just park at a doughnut shop and wait for then to come to him
+idonnowhattoput It does you right! And cops seems to enjoy to use easy violence against unarmed citizens. I hope they get their ass kicked when not in service and become "mortal" persons.
Criminals??The most I did in my life is getting a ticket for crossing the solid white line with my car back wheel. I have a clean record and yes I still believe COPS HARASS ppl without using common sense instead looking for real criminals.
What makes you clearly understand that we`re living a police state is the simple fact that any time you see a police car around you suddenly don`t feel protected but rather ready to be hassled! Now in my own opinion there are 3 reasons to push a human person to be a cop in some point of his life:1.You can`t find a better job2.You believe you`re the best citizen and never make mistakes3.You were simply born with asshole`s skills! Here where I live there are more cops than civilians around, but so many that each family can have a person officer in front of his property 24/7 paid from our taxes! But of course these assholes prefer to go stop the 85yold going 25mph `coz it`s a suspicious car or pull over random ppl to make some $ to pay their vacation because we have WAAAAYYY to many cops to pay!I REALLY WANNA KNOW WHERE COPS ARE ALL THE FUCKIN DAMN TIME YOU NEED THEM!!!
