This Obsidian is sold in Slices, Boulders, by the Ounce or Ton... It is excellent for Knapping Knifes, Arrowheads, Spear points or what ever Your project is.
I just bought a piece of cobalt blue obsidian and am waiting on a piece of
rainbow obsidian 11 inches long. I cant wait I am planning it make some
really nice blades out of them. I would love to get my hands on some of the
fire obsidian.
I just started knapping. ive went to a few rock shows and bought some
pretty nice obsidian. Do you sell this by the pound or do you sell it at
all? my email is [email protected] if your intrested in selling please
contact me.
I will see what I can do for You. I sold my inventory on the fire Obsidian.
I have the best Rainbow available and even in sliced blank form to knapp
blades. Thank You for the comment.
Finally a day came along this winter that was warm enough for me to sit out in my mancave in the open door and do a little knapping. One of my tuber friends ...
+Philip Todd You are correct Philip. Blood and swearing often accompany working a piece of obsidian. I had a beautiful, thin, 11" blade of obsidian going really good Monday and I pulled a rookie mistake and hit it a little to hard on the base and it broke clean in half, I think I invented 10 new swear words, haha! I ended up making 2 points out of the two halves, so all was not lost!
I never thought to ask Paleoman, I know you cut them short after you buy
them, but when you buy the billets to cut, who do you buy them from. Also
when it comes to things like these, like flintknapping tools, is it
reliable to buy them on the internet.
+Micah Worthington Micah, moose antler is usually pretty big so you shouldn't have any trouble finding a larger size. Actually it is harder for me to find the smaller sizes. You could run an ad in your local swap sheet or Penny Saver and ask if any one has any old moose antlers they want to get rid of, this works pretty well sometimes.
+Micah Worthington Micah that billet is what I consider a large billet but I have 2 sizes that are smaller than this billet. I like using my medium sized billet the most but when I want to drive larger, flatter flakes I'll use the large billet because it has more mass to it and the weight behind the strike is what accomplishes this.
Yes i have bought from most of these sites and people, and i have had nothing but good experiences i am just shy of buying the antler billets because i can not be sure what they look like. Being that each antler is unique i understand how it can be difficult to provide a photograph of the antler billets. But anyway, is the size of the large billet your are using in the beginning of the video, is that width weight and girth common in what Craig and Mark describe as Large, Extra, or Giant sized billets.
Those are all really good questions Micah, so here are some answers! I usually barter my work for my antler, so I don't have one source for them. There are quite a few reliable vendors to buy antler and other tools from. Two I would highly recommend, as they are very good friends of mine and I always get the best quality from are, Craig Ratzat (neolithics.com) and Mark Bracken (flintknappingtools.com). Check these guys out and tell them I sent you their way.
Hey Brother ! This is a great video, and it's really helped me in my
endeavor to become a good knapper. My only wish is that you would do a full
length series of videos showing the process from start to finish. I think
as your subscribers we would all be thrilled !
Thanks Garin, hey check back through my videos, I did a 2 part series called making a Snyders point from start to finish. This show exactly how I make a Snyders point and every flake I take is shown. Let me know if you find it and if you find it helpful. Thanks so much for watching!

This question is open to anybody who thinks they can answer it. why can i
not get a flake. no matter how hard i try, i just cant get one. i have
watched videos of flintknappers and how they get flakes and it seems that
they don't push that hard. i am 14 years old and am using glass bcz i don't
have access to obsidean or any other rocks.(it sucks watching people going
to glass buttes and getting all the obsidean they want) whenever i try to
get a flake i push with all my strenght and i cant get one. i might lucky
once in a while but its rare. i use antler tools and mostly glass bottle
bottoms. PLEASE HELP!!!
Thanks! I wear gloves for percussion work, but I've stopped using gloves for pressure work. When I wear gloves, I'll usually get a splinter that goes all the way through and the glove makes the cut worse.
get a chunk of wood, hammer a nail through it. sand wood down to shape. file the nail point. put some leather or cloth on wood for grip if you like, simple as that
Check out that sick glass. Must have had some serious undercooling!

a suggestion for a super fantastic strong two part epoxy that will not
break free is called PC-7, can be purchased off ebay for about $17. (PC-7
two part epoxy). This will most certainly keep your bopper from
separating. Just a recommendation.
good work there.....keep it up......
Thanks for the shout out, man! And also I couldn't have done those so well
without your tips. I'm still practicing so maybe I'll get better at it.
Also, I hope you get better! PS: I think I wanted to cry when I saw that
bopper dismantle. :(
They sell these deals at home depot that supposed to stop water hammer. I
thought one of them things filled with sand might make a good bopper. They
look like a copper sausage.
Love the video thanks, I am just a beginner. Love the starting out
information. I got lots of Obsidian around where I live. So lots of work
with. Thank you again. D
