I'm going to assume that you are somehow related to Confederate General
James Longstreet? The reason I ask is that the name Longstreet is quite an
uncommon name in this country. I have not personally met anyone with that
name in all my nearly 60 years, and I've been around the block a few times.
If you are related, have you any tidbits of info about him not already
known? He was a very interesting personality, as most people know. Thank
you.
Very well done. I had been to Yellow Tavern years ago but didn't really
have an understanding of the terrain and how the battle played out. This
made sense for me of what I saw back then. Whether you did a video or not
you should go online and find a tour route for Stuart's ride around
McClellan in 1862. It's about a 50 mile ride, but well worth the trip.
Fantastic job. Really enjoyed it. You literally carved out the battlefield
in modern day surroundings. I'm a civil war reenactor and really enjoy
details of battlefields and the battles. Again very good job.
@delta05 many years before the civil war ther was a tavern located near
brook rd and woodman rd, I believe it was called "The Yellow Tavern".
Thanks for the compliment.
I work just down Brook Rd from where this took place. I'm 28 years old and
don't know anyone even close to my age that is interested in Civil War
history. Great video!
Nice tour! Thanks! I remember taking a field trip with my VCU Civil War
history class in the late 70's when I-295 did not exist yet, and Telegraph
Rd. was "whole".
Thank you for taking the time to reconstruct the battle. It was very
thorough, and well done. It is too bad that more of the battlefield could
not be preserved.
Excellent video, I'm headed to Richmond this weekend for a little CW tour
and I'm going to see (what little there is to see of) the Yellow Tavern
site. This video will certain prove to be helpful when I orient myself!
Really interesting 'BigjermsGarage', James Ewell Brown Stuart was my 3x
Great Grandfather, I am English but my father is from Texas, I studied
about my famous ancestor, thank you for sharing!
It makes me sick that none of this battleground was preserved for
posterity. Blood shed for freedom, and none but an occasional passersby
cares or remembers.
