Otter Creek Trail: Blue Ridge Parkway Father & Son Hiking
After completing our hikes at the James River Visitor Center on the Blue Ridge Parkway, near Lynchburg, Virginia, we drove a couple of miles north to the Lower ...
+Dean Jarvis Thanks man, I'm glad you enjoyed it. Next time you are in that area stop by for a hike. I think its about 7 or 8 miles to do the entire trail, one end is at the James River visitor center, and the other end is at Otter Campground. There are a couple of creek crossings that involve rock hopping so if the water levels are high those parts may not be passable. The grade is gentle so it's an easy hike, great place to break in some new boots as you mentioned! Thanks for watching, my friend! I appreciate it.
Excellent! Nice to string together several trails. Otter Creek
is beautiful. Love how the trees grow around those rocks. That first beaver
downed tree looked huge. You are teaching him well.....off trail hiking
obviously runs in the family. Great memories. Enjoy....they grow up way too
fast. Take care, friend.
+Sleeves Thanks man! Yeah I liked the Otter Creek Trail. It had some neat stuff....we were off trail searching for an abandoned homestead that I think is in that area but I'm not sure, obviously we did not find it. This is not really the kind of trail I would do on my own, but it was perfect for my son. A lot of good experience for him and several good learning opportunities. It won't be long he'll be ready for some more serious trails. Thanks so much for watching and for all your nice comments. I really appreciate your support!
+potatothorn it's actually not an uncommon sight around here, though this was probably the first time I saw this much activity in a small area. The norm is maybe see one or two larger trees chopped and that's it. A lot of times I also find one where they started chopping it but the tree is still standing.
+potatothorn there were certainly a lot of downed trees in this video...some appeared to be wind thrown but the majority were chopped down by the local beaver population. Thanks for watching, my friend. I really appreciate it!
I really enjoy the video, I been by there a few times, watching your videos
that are on the BRPW makes me wish I had more time to stop and have done
some of your hikes.Great to see you and your son having fun enjoying the
trails, thanks for sharing! Take care my friend!
+DW's Southern Cooking & BBQ The vast majority of trails that are along the Parkway are pretty short, not strenuous, and almost always lead to something interesting. There are definitely plenty of opportunities to stretch the legs a little during a drive of the Parkway. Hopefully you can check out some of the trails next time you are in the area. I'm glad you enjoyed this and other similar videos, thanks so much for watching!
