For my previous IPPT tests, I have to perform the stations and a rest
before running the 2.4km. Usually the others will come late around 9am
which means the mass run will take around 11am. Now I have several medical
conditions hence I cannot take the IPPT tests. Hence I want to know if this
is the normal practice?
What the flying fuck? 3.2km?!
What are we all training to be? Scrawny twigs?
Guard Fitness: Perfect Push-up
Watch Staff Sergeant Ken Weichert, an Army National Guard Master Fitness Trainer, perform the perfect push-up and prepare for the Army Physical Fitness Test.
Sgt. Ken, I want to say Thank you! My whole life I' never could do a pushup
but you inspired me to set a goal: a perfect pushup. Given that I'm female
and well over 50 yrs old, my friends thought I was crazy. I worked with a
great trainer & since I couldn't do even 1 pushup from my knees, he had me
focus on negatives only. Two months later, I can do pushups! They aren't
perfect - I'm still working toward that. Thank you! Next goal: pass the NG
test even tho you guys wont take me. :p lol
I want to go into the Air Force like my brothers and father before me. So I
have started to look up a bunch of work-out and physical fitness (USAF
Approved) so I can get the hang of it before I go off into boot camp. I'm
going to be adopting a 14 week training regiment before I sign up, mainly
so that I know by the end if I can really commit to the AF or not. Videos
like this are really helpful especially, they help avoid any confusions as
to what the US military think is suitable.
@Raiks Right now, you can do wide as you want to--- as long as you drop
your shoulders at least even with your elbows. Starting at some point next
year, later on when the new PFT goes into effect, you will have to have
your hands close into your body, and drop your elbows to the rear. It's
much more difficult for tall people (I'm 6'3"). I can do 65-70 on the old
system, but am still struggling to get close to that on the 'upcoming'
standard. -SGT, Active Duty.
What happens if in those two minutes you're doing as many push-ups as you
can, but then your arms just give out, and you end up on the ground eating
grass? Does the timer stop and I'm done? Or can I get back up and keep
going? Sometimes I rest in the air butt position and keep going, but I
guess I overdo it because I just end up collapsing. And I've peaked at 22,
but I'm sure a few those were half-assed so probably more like 18
....Pathetic, I know.
You said you aren't allowed to sag in the middle as an authorized rest
position... incorrect. FM 21-20 states "An altered, front-leaning rest
position is the only authorized rest position. That is, you may sag in the
middle or flex your back. When flexing your back, you may bend your knees,
but not to such an extent that you are supporting most of your body weight
with your legs." Just trying to let everyone be clear on the regs.
Okay i am trying out for the Army... But i am having trouble doing Push ups
sicne i have never really done them before... Since i was in grade six i
had always wanted to be apart of the Infantry.. Can you please help me..
Like is there any way that i can learn to build up my strength? I would
really appreciate it if you responded ASAP. Thank you.
@ContainedMax It has alot to do with height, genetics and how much body
fat/muscle a person has. I am 14 and im 6' 1'' and 168, i have barely any
fat on me, i am at around 10% body fat. Muscle weighs more than fat, ( 1
pound of muscle is less mass than one pound of fat) hence why you ( other
people ) can weigh more and be skinny. :)
Does it matter how close you tuck your elbows into your body? I've seen
quite a few videos where the instructor's elbows are out a bit more...but
how this instructor did it is kind of how i thought they were to be done.
Which is more beneficial to gaining the muscle strength you need to meet
the requirement?
Damn...I weigh a bit more than your usual person(at around 105 kg) and it
is difficult for me to do push ups with arms at that width. But when I do
them a bit wider apart then I can do them much easier. Should I continue
doing them like I do now or should I start practicing this way instead?
How about for a 17 year old male, 220 lbs. Im waiting to leave for basic
and curious on how many pushups and how fast i have to run a mile? I can do
65 pushups before actually getting tired and 2miles in 17:00 jogging? Is it
my jogging i need to speed up? Please and thank you.
what about for a 29 year old, weighing 230lbs? how many push ups and
sit-ups? also whats the average time to run a mile or two under average
passable tolerable time for my age / weight group? I need to know please I
want to practice this before joining the NG. Thanks
@DanWYi Based on personnal experience, I blocked at like 35 push-ups, even
if I was doing a couple sets everyday. The only way I could increase this
number is with weight lifting. After 5 months at the gym I can now do
around 60. I hope it helps you.
You will be instructed how to do push-ups correctly when you go to basic
training, but when you are getting graded each grader looks for different
things. So, you might be told to put your hands closer together depending
on your grader at the time.
1:28 Now, his arms are straight to the body, usualy people however bend
their army so they go out on the sides, you know what i mean?? What kind of
push up is army? Straight arms backward when going down or army bent to the
side when going down?
@JustMe8485, If your arms give out and you're laying on the floor, the test
stops there. The push-ups you completed are counted. There are two
authorized resting positions so you don't have to keep doing your push-ups
until your arms collapse.
SSG Ken, Last time I checked TC 3-22.20, the rest positions were sag in the
middle or flex your back... "AN ALTERED, FRONT-LEANING REST POSITION IS THE
ONLY AUTHORIZED REST POSITION. THAT IS, YOU MAY SAG IN THE MIDDLE OR FLEX
YOUR BACK."
Hello! You will have to do 42 push-ups, 53 sit-ups, and you have to run
your your 2 mile in 15:54. So, yes you will have to work on your jogging
and get the time a little lower.
I want to spend the next year getting in shape. But honest question, is 32
too old to get into the military? What have been your experiences with
older guys signing up?
on september I am going to join the army. is 2 month preparation enough for
me? please give some advise or maybe some training schedule that I should
do. thank you sir
When ever i try and do these i cant get my chest to down in a stright line
with my legs, it just stays up in the start position. I can feel it work
though.
Hey SSGT Ken. I was wondering if i did a set of 10 push ups and sit ups
every half hour, would it help improve my ability to perform push ups and
sit ups?
How can I increase my pushups should I do it everyday or other day I want
to enlist in the national guard for washington state and should I run
everyday
