How To Build A Shed - Part 10 - Shed Door Building
Chris from //www.icreatables.com/sheds/shed-plans.html teaches you how to build and hang a door for your storage shed! This video shows all the steps to ...
The "How To Build a Shed" series is one of The Best step by step videos I
have ever encountered. The verbal instructions are clear, accurate and are
synced with the video. Well done, and thank you. Sincerely Tom B.
+martin gonzales It's 1 1/4" Overhang of the siding on the door. 1" hold back of the siding on the shed. 1/2" gap between the door framing on the shed and the door rails. This combination gives 1/4" gap between the door siding and the siding on the shed.
Maybe I missed an explanation, but why on earth would you put hinges on the
outside of the door? All it takes is a screwdriver & a little time and
someone can get inside to take whatever they want.
I'm a bit confused here. If the back panel is 1 inch smaller than the door
opening, then how can the front panel possibly have a 1 1/4 inch overhang
compared to the back panel? That would mean the front panel is 2 inches
larger than the door opening.
Seems to me the front panel should have a 1/2" overhang in order to fit
into the door opening.
Doesn't make any sense. What am I missing?
The correct answer is the front panel has a 1/2" overhang in order to fit into the door opening, not a 1 1/4" overhang as the video explains.Thank you very much for posting this. I built this door, and it is very sturdy and solid. Wonderful fit! Thanks!
+iCreatables It's obvious that the overhang is to overlap the door opening, but you ignored the most important part of the question. In the video you say to make the back panel one inch smaller than the front panel. This would make the overhang 1/2 inch all around. Then when assembling the front panel you say to measure a 1-1/4 inch overhang. So which is it, 1/2 inch or 1-1/4 inch? Do you cut the back panel 1 inch smaller or 2-1/2 inches smaller?
+Robert JOhansen The front is larger so it overlaps the door way opening. It is like a cabinet door, sitting on the outside of the shed. This keeps the weather out and makes it so you do not need to install a door stop around the interior of the door frame.
+sjeverett75 Installing 1/8" bolts in place of the screws makes it more secure.
Sketchup Tutorial - Model a Shed (Part 5) - Final Details

Wow! Great Tutorial, I learned a lot. Step by step.. I didn't know how to
use the group matt and the difference of component and group. Thank you for
sharing this video. I love it!
Good work, sir! I like your approach of building your project digitally
first. It allows you to discover problems and address them before you make
the first cut [and likely wasting material]. I've been using SketchUp for a
few years now but you've taught me many time-savers I could've been using.
Wish I'd found your site a long time ago - might've saved me a few
headaches. Now, to build my new deck...
Hi, thanks for this series of videos, I learnt a lot, particularly about
groups, rotation and referencing.
Just one thing though, can you cut down on the random moving around the
model? It's very distracting and actually makes me feel a bit motion sick!
+Ken Flint I notice that too. I think I do that subconsciously in order to help me "see" the model in 3D. When it sits still for too long, you lose some of the perspective.
Just finished watching your shed tutorials. Although I am pretty good with
Sketchup I learned several valuable tricks that will speed things up for me
and make things easier, particularly the Outliner window. Great work;
thanks for the information.
You have stretched the roof sheeting to slightly over 5 feet by 8-1/8", and
it doesn't meet at the top. By the time you get done you have a flat spot
on the roof that is approaching 2-1/2" because you didn't meet the sheeting
that is already bigger than any one sheet. Seems like if you are going to
do something impossible you would at least be consistent. Then when
putting on siding you let one end hang over 1/8", flush in the front of the
building, the entire 1/8" in the rear. On the other hand, this is a
sketchup tutorial, not a building tutorial.
Finally, when you finish the last video you tell us that you are not going
to go into all the remaining details "because it would take 'forever.' "
It really sounded like you were tired of the project and just wanted to
end. Partly because you spent so much time telling us the Rectange tool
and the Push-Pull tools were "Here or the letter P" (or Here and the letter
R). But that's OK, I was tired of it too.
Let me hasten to add that I have gathered useful information from your
videos, but it would be nice if you would liven them up somewhat. Less
time drawing rectangles and more time on the rotate tools. Should I be
able to tell which direction is first then second when drawing the
rectangles? If I draw one direction it has 1.5" first, but on another
plane 3.5" is first. I'll go somewhere else to find that information, but
thanks for what I've learned from this site.
In the original video he did explain it was not his design, he was only providing a tutorial for sketchup, also this is a beginner tutorial. Seems to me he tried to keep the videos from running too long, not that he was bored. In my opinion he did an excellent job explaining in detail, different ways to accomplish same goals with a little repetition. Based on the fact I have never even opened any version of sketchup before watching ALL of his video tutorials, and now I can easily navigate the software and completing my second kitchen design for a customer now... I would call it a very successful tutorial. All of his defense aside, the shed design is very poor lol
I've downloaded the free version of Sketchup 8 and the select using a drag
a box function does not work. Is this attribute supposed to be functional
with this version, if so how can I set it?

Hi James, I am a complete noob at this sort of thing, but what sort of
wattage would you get from your 25w panel give, would it power a 2500w watt
chain saw?
we are trying to power a allotment shed to give us power on site, ps I
could tell by the accent your from the northwest I a from liverpool
Hi Gary, The panel I use doesn't power the lighting or other appliances direct, it charges a battery pack. So, to answer your question...it all depends on your power supply. You would need a large power supply to power 2.5kw chain saw and a 25w panel would take a long time to charge it. Cheers

How To Build A Shed - Part 2 Floor Framing
Chris from //www.icreatables.com/sheds/shed-plans.html teaches you how to build the framing for a storage shed floor. This video describes the steps to ...
+john meredith The two main reasons are speed and cost. If you use screws you should use ones that have a high shear strength, like polymer coated deck screws. Thanks for watching.
+Daniel Hunter Most every board has a bow to it. When you frame a wall you should make all the bow point upward. This is called crowning the board. It makes the wall look straighter and it the boards move any more due to drying out they will all tend to move in the same direction.
Nice video, but I notice a small error. At 1:05, you say "continue making
marks every sixteen and three quarters inches..." If you did that, they'd
be 16 3/4" O.C., not 16" OC.
+Ben Silverman I prefer Hitachi guns, Lowes sells a less expensive version that is great if you are not making a living with it. 2 1/4" nails for sheeting. 3 1/4" nails for floor and wall framing. Rolair compressor.
Will this design work for a bigger shed? I am making a big shed for my man
cave workshop and I need a design that can hold everything a good shop will
need.
+VikingLumberjack 6500 It depends on how big. The 2x6 floor joists will need more support once you get up to 10' wide or you can install larger joists. The roof rafters should have a king post once you go to 10' span, depending on your local snow loads. The walls are built this way no matter how large the shed.
Thanks for the videos! Started a while ago now I'm hooked and up all night.
Quick question though: Some time in the next year or so I'm going to build
a shed behind my house to use as a car workshop for body painting. I'll
need a foundation that can handle 10,000+ lbs of heavy duty trucks. It's
looking more and more like I'm going to have to build a whole concrete
foundation as if I'm making a garage but based on your expertise would a
solid wooden foundation like the one you use (just heavier duty wood for
the larger shed of course) be good enough to support the weight? Thanks
again!!
+M. Yasin Hi, It can be done with wood but it will likely cost more than concrete. A concrete slab costs slightly more than a regular wood framed floor so it is not going to save any money. It can be done though, think wooden bridges. You should consult a local structural engineer to size the parts. Thanks for watching!
Shed build and channel update
Building the base for my steel shed to store my excess car parts. Cleaning out my dad's garage so I can bring my compressor home.
@12345mike6789 - The base was actually my dad's idea. The shed I purchased
came with a floor kit, but it's cheap and steel and will rust/rot pretty
quickly up here. So pressure treated 2x6x10's and some plywood was the way
to go. The base will probably long outlast the shed itself lol.
Cool, I like building stuff. I had a blast building the twin sheds in my
back yard. Check my channel to see, it has some details. Anyhow Im thinking
I should have lifted my small aluminum shed off the ground like this. I
liked this video. Looking forward to the conclusion, Mike
The Forest Alpha 0.08 Season 8 Episode 4 - RABBIT TRAP + SUPPLY SHED + TREEHOUSES!
The Forest Alpha 0.08 Update Gameplay Walkthrough Part 4 The Forest is an open world survival game that takes place on a deserted island after the plane ...
reposting this idea, please vote on if it should happen or not and if you
would want it like this
AndrewOscarDelta, i am a huge fan of both you and the forest, i wanted to
ask you what you thought of this idea, we get more effigies and certain
ones or build enough and you can control like some cannibals out of
respect, they could work for you but not be that dumb brainwashed kind,
like they would fight for you, and build shit for you when you would go
exploring for suit cases or to stir troubles in the caves. you could send
them out to find stuff for you or do raids. like to survive in a forest
full of cannibals you should be able to recruit cannibals to make your own
tribe, this literally would be the definition of surviving, you dont live
long on your own, you live well with others covering you while you work.
+AndrewOscarDelta I find it amusing that in game filled with blood, guts, dismemberment, and tits, that the occasional use of foul language would be the real problem.
