Well thank you for your kind words and I am sure that you are right about things still happening down south.  Once I was on the phone with a guy and LONG story short, I came to find out that he was a member of the kkk.  You have to understand that because of the way my parents spoke and how they raised us, neither I or any of my siblings speak with any kind of accent or intonations that would incline someone to think that we were non-white.  I once even got a business loan for thousands of dollars over the phone with a bank, while my own bank would not help me out after asking for months.  When I came in to sign papers THE NEXT DAY you should have seen the bankers face when she saw that I was Black. lolol  That being said, this man began to divulge many of the activities that the kkk still does.  He further offered to meet with me to have me sized for my robe. O_o  It was a very fortunate thing that my parents instilled the principles that they did!  Not to long after that conversation I was talking to a 21 year old kid on the phone that was married, and he was a member of the Aryan Nation.  I told him that I had talked to the kkk and he was very adamant that they were a bunch of ........., some type of expletive implying that they were weak and just talked. He explained how they go out and look for people and do HARM.  Him and his young wife had a little baby boy.  I asked him what he would do if his son wanted to have a black friend?  He just said that they would train him that it is wrong and bad. :(  pretty sad.I was going to show you the stats of how many hangings in the US were mostly Blacks and usually without any reason and/or repercussions, but there was just too much information.  So that is just part of what people have to understand as to why so many Black people are mad. Things like this have gone on for yearrrrssss with nothing being done to the perpetrators and in many cases have continued under the guise that Blacks are DEFINITELY going to commit crimes. They put them in situations that don't allow them to progress and them take advantage of them doing bad because of their anger and feelings of low self esteem for not being able to get of their situation.But my advice to all those other Black folk is that they need to learn to raise themselves up to act with dignity.  I hate it when I see Black people being loud and obnoxious or bringing backpacks into a store and wondering why they are being followed.  Act with dignity!  Stop using foul language and dressing slovenly (for the guys that walk around with their pants hanging down).  For a minute, my kids tried to follow this form of conduct and I had to keep on them.  Now, even though my kids are both under 22, they have traveled to different parts of the world including Africa. My 21 year old son just got back from spending a few months in different parts of Europe then to Bali and Australia.  He paid for all of this!  Like myself and my siblings, neither my son or my daughter went to any college yet he is about to start his own business living outside the US and my 20 year old daughter is being groomed to run an elite dental office in Seattle.  Recently they came up with an idea that will change travel arrangements. I am proud of both of them and can't wait till they work on this other project.  The are very professional.  They very rarely have any issues because of their conduct, speech and actions!I am just mad that my parents generation fought for Blacks to have all of these freedoms and many just throw it away and act stupid and then complain that things are so bad.  I am hoping to secure funding to start a company that should eventually sell for several Billions of dollars.  You can be sure that I would NEVER hire anyone that acted like that. I would want employees who represented my values and was an extension of my company.  So I tell people to check themselves.  True, there are many stupid white people out there, but there are way more balanced white people that do not think like the other idiots! But as an example of what I just stated, there are more white people such as yourself, that find the kind of conduct as acted out on Emmett Till as being Deplorable!  Thank you

+Dan FarrarI can only apologise for what you have gone through and be thankful that the colour of my skin (I am white British) has never been an issue for me. Sadly, whilst a lot of people like to believe racism is dying it out I see it is coming back stronger than ever in certain parts and with certain people. I still believe there are African American's being convicted because of their colour and indeed I know there are black men/children being shot by Police seemingly on a weekly basis with no punishment. I would like to think lynchings don't happen but deep in the south, who the hell knows?

+Norfolk EnchantsBut you also need to understand that this incident was but one of HUNDREDS.  Only a few months before this a preacher had been shot in the face with a shotgun for registering to vote. It was ruled a car accident.  So so so many times, men were hung because supposedly they LOOKED at a white woman. If you just type in atrocities to African Americans, then you will begin to get an idea of just what it was like. And much of this was clear up to my childhood. Even with my family growing up far from this area, when my parents moved back to the States from London after serving in the Air force, they moved to a place in Oregon.  The neighbors all got together and offered the landlord to pay the rent if she would evict them.  Fortunately, she said "They are extremely clean and always pay the rent on time, NO".Though I am only 53 (i had to say only lol) when I was young growing up not in the south but on the west coast in an upper middle class family I still experienced many cases of racism.So when people say just like they used to say in 1955 when this atrocity took place, "Oh you  black Ni$$e%s just like to complain"!  lol  I can only invite those people (though I know they NEVER would) to watch just 2 documentaries or perhaps the accounts of 3 different people and tell me that blacks just complain about nothing.  Reminds me of how back when slaves use to work in the fields, the master or others would be up on horseback and yell at them how they were dirty lazy Ni$$e%. If they tried to learn to read or write, they would be beat near to death. And for them to complain?  They wouldn't dare  to the face of the master. Some doctors such as J. Marion Sims conducted atrocious experiments on African American women and their infants all without any type of anesthesia. Even as recently as 1975 their was the Tuskegee Syphilis experiment where the lied to poor blacks and infected them with syphilis just to see the effects. Even after they had the cure, they continued to infect them.  My father was unaware until I read up about it, that while he was serving in the Military he and other Black servicemen were used for Radiation tests.  He said that he remembered the equipment that they were using but that they just had to do what they were asked.My dad is 86 and my Grandmother is 108, there are just tooooooo many accounts to try to even recount that were just as egregious as what happened to this boy.  

+Norfolk EnchantsYes, you are correct there is the law "Double Jeopardy Clause", but I failed to make it clear that the President was well aware of it before the trial took place.  This is part of the now De-classified letter that J Edgar Hoover wrote:"There has been no allegation made that the victim [Emmett Till] has been subjected to the deprivation of any right or privilege which is secured and protected by the Constitution and the laws of the United States"So even though the perpetrators did their interview with the magazine confessing the murder only 4 months after the trial. nothing was ever done.In fact after Mamie petitioned each president since, not one would ever look in to the case until just recently.  Sad

+Dan Farrar From what I know of American Law, despite their confession in the magazine, due to the double jeopardy law they couldn't be put on trial again. I'm not sure if Eisenhower would have been in a position to insist they were put on trial again, my guess is he probably would have been able to do something as he is the most powerful man in the country but I don't know. I do know the double jeopardy law is crazy though, if a person confesses or new evidence comes to light after a trial that person should definitely be put on trial again.I find it sickening that Milam and Bryant confessed to a magazine, as if they hadn't hurt the Till family enough already they then basically rubbed their noses in it by pretty much saying 'HA HA! We got away with it and you can't do NOTHING about it!'

Carolyn Bryant was 21-years-old.  After Till approached her , said degrading things to her...he than grabbed her and refused to let her go.  The young white female became terrified...She pried Tills hands off ...then ran to her truck and retrieved her gun! A gun!!! This is how terrified she was of that NEGRO BULLY!Now why would this adult white female get so terrified because of the behavior of a little 5'4" inch "boy"'?!Till was tall enough and strong enough to BULLY that adult female!Till was also from Chicago...where he bragged about mistreating white females.Till's father was a convicted rapist and murderer of white females in Europe (white males executed him). So terrorized was she...she raced to her truck to gab her gun.  Till crossed the line. When Carol told her husband of the insulting actions and words from a black BULLY...he had no choice but to respond. It was the code of the South at that time.  Till deserved a good hard slap in the face and a stern warning not to do what he did ever again.
