I cannot access my external hard drive, it always say: data error cyclic
redundancy check. Is my external hard drive has a bad sector? how can I
recover it? If I you use chkdsk it always say that cannot open volume for
direct access.
Hi thanks for your tutorial.I have a question please,I want to replace my
Desk top hard-drive.I think it's a IDE, but it doesn't measure 3.5 but 4
inches in width.have I measured it correctly? Thanks
+Budd james My old IDE drives typically measure 4" x 5.75". I believe the platters are roughly 3.5", and with the IBM drives that have a 'form fitted' top plate, that's about what they appear to measure.
+PC Roger Hi,yes, checked that post thanks. The answer I was looking for was about the "physical" size of the drive. It's actually called 3.5" but in reality it measures 4" ,it's a misnomer to me ;-) .And just to confuse things further, the "platter" is not even 3.5" it's 3.75" ?To a newbie like myself this is very confusing.I've found out that I need an IDE ,but thanks for the reply-James
+PC Roger Hello. My old AIO doesn't recognize the HDD anymore does it mean it's dead? it's a 3.5'' SATA2 640GB HDD how can I check if it's dead or not?

@clamo636 thx for your comment. i wrote 0.(0)6ms. but youre actually right.
dont know where i got the 0.06ms from. indeed, according to spec list seek
time is 0.1ms, I (re-)tested it just this moment and hdtune tells for 4k
ops 0.16ms seek time (on a half-loaded drive which has been "used" for a
while now...). i made this video (and all the benchmarks) on the first day
i got the drive and this could have been the "new-condition" and hdtune may
have told told 0.06ms. thx for watching, greetz
@thelegendbullet937 indeed, the performance-boost is only measurable (less
than 10mb/s more w/ahci), but if your mainboard supports it, i would
recommend enabling ahci as it runs table (some people get frequent
bluescreens i've heard...) but enable it BEFORE INSTALLING WINDOWS! To make
it run after you installed win in ide-mode you have to activate the
disabled ahci-drivers manually (google!). But AHCI enables native command
queung (ncq) which improves latency and also "hot-swap" capability
@clamo636 and btw, i bet you wont get a windows-7 boot-up in 10 sec with a
sata2-drive. even not with a sata3-drive. maybe a sata3-drive and a fresh
and clean windows-install without all the usual programmes installed. there
are videos out there of the OCZ "REVODRIVE" which gives about 480MB/s (over
pci-e!) and this one boots windows in about 15 seconds. send me the link if
you know some SINGLE, non-RAID solid state drive which boots in 10 seconds,
i really like to see :P
@FearingHD Thanks for getting back to me. Just out of curiosity could you
please clarify something for me in your bios? Could you check to see in
your "boot order" whether your ssd is no.1 on the list. Also is your
optical device in your boot order disabled or removed from the list? If you
could check that for me that would be great because I've done some research
and that seems to be the issue and just wanted to see if you have the same
settings.
@Nettacki I've had an SSD that I've been using constantly for nearly 2
years now and it's yet to lose a byte :] However, because It doesn't have
trim... being one of the older ones, it lost some of it's performance.
HOWEVER, don't let that drive u away! The new ones have TRIM to fix that
problem, AND even with the problem, my old SSD still beats the stuff out of
any 7200RPM drive, even my RAID 0 array!
@kaenlaithai yeh,i saw u r using 32bit win7 which is a bit less
ram-consuming than my 64bit version. and you stopped the counter just in
the moment the desktop appeared, i waited until all autostarts programm und
my sidebar have loaded completely which indicates the complete boot-process
has finished ;) but this is actually my old video. i also have a new one :P
but your video is nice, though! greetz
@FearingHD Yeah I did and the scores where really good. Here they are: SEQ=
Read 578.6 Write=609.6 512K= Read 571 Write 548.4 4K= Read 37 Write 231.9
4K QD32= Read 328.3 Write= 316.1 Over 5 1000mb tests. This was done on
crystal mark and also I tested it on ATTO, scores are fairly different
between benchmarking software's but still high for raid 0.
im not sure were you got these specs from but according to OCZ the 60 model
has a 0.1 ms response time not 0.6. and is soposta have a 10sec boot up
time not 20 not sure if 0.6 could really make that big of a diff but maybe
yours is an older model? but still 20sec is still fast as hell.
@Intel1502 xD what should fail btw? if u dont benchmark all day and write,
erase and re-write data all the time theres nothing to worry about. im sure
ssds will stay even longer than hdds which have mechanical failures and
sector errors by the time...
@john0022 the ssd is the only boot device, i have "boot other device"
disabled and just press F11 if i have to boot from disc or usb... you could
use HDTune to check if something is wrong with your read performance or the
response time
FearingHD, My ssd's got worse haha from posting to having a usable windows
it takes me 1 minute 29 seconds. It didn't work for me, I'm stumped as to
what to do. These load times are terrible and I need and want them to get
faster!
Hey FearingHD, how did you get your starting windows logo to load so fast?
Only took you 14 seconds! Did you cut things out of windows? I got two
Vertex 3 max iops ssd in raid 0 and it takes me 24 seconds! What did you do?
@FearingHD Yea, I've used it mostly for the hot swap feature because I have
an E-sata dock :] But yea I know how that goes if u don't install with it
enabled :P... pain in the butt first time I had to do it ha!
Yeah not good, my HDD is faster than your SSD in this video. I'll be
receiving my Vertex 2 soon. Can't wait to try it out. Did you happen to
migrate your Users and Program Files folders to an HDD instead.
@john0022 hm, did u tested the read performance of the raid with hdtune?
what results did u get? next thing u could do is to split the raid back to
single drives and test each one on its own.
@mikkolangot There is a lot of controversy on that actually. It depends on
the brand of SSD and the controller it has. Basically, try both and see
what works best for you. Hope that helped :]
