Taiwan in not China. your "Chinese carbon wheels" bought on ebay are made in China. means cheap shit. Pro-Lite is a Taiwanese company.

+glenny oc There are Taiwanese companies with manufacturing in Taiwan and Taiwanese companies with manufacturing in China. Giant produces around 5/6 of their product in China currently. They are a Taiwanese company. The production facilities shown in this video are all in Taiwan, in the greater Taichung area and nearby cities. Bicycle Retailer magazine calls Taichung "the center of the high-end bicycle universe". Part of this is due to efforts by our CEO, who is deeply involved in promoting Taiwanese bicycle manufacturing and was honored in 2011 by Bicycle Retailer magazine for his efforts in organizing Taichung Bike Week - one of the most important industry events in the world due to its role in the business and manufacturing side of the bicycle industry. While it is true that Chinese factories are getting better, the bottom line is that the ease of which they can flog sub-standard parts means that there is little to stop them from releasing unreliable product produced with shoddy methods to market. Because this is the baseline of their production standards, better factories who produce higher quality product are constantly under pressure to compete with lower-priced factories who operate with no concern for actual quality. This keeps the entire China manufacturing world shifted towards cutting corners wherever possible to compete with the lowest end. This is not exclusive to the bicycle industry. In Taiwan, the reputation is for higher quality product and it is also known that the price will not be as low as China, so the expectation is not for the dead lowest price. This affords some freedom to keep quality high without constantly looking for corners to cut. When the emphasis is on making quality product, you tend to end up with higher quality product. It's not impossible to find good product manufactured in China if the parent company is extremely dilligent with making sure their factories adhere to good policies. But given the importance that wheels have for performance and safety, do you really want to gamble your safety with wheels that might crumble and fail because some factory manager pocketed the money saved by eliminating a layer or using a cheaper grade of carbon? We have had many customers come to us with horror stories. For example, we have taken over production for other companies who had more than 800% variance in their load carrying capacity (over 10 samples) and we were able to produce the same item with less than 5% variance (1200-1250lb consistently over 10 samples). This isn't even particularly special - it is simply as it should be. It is the result of honesty, basic competence (and occasional homework to stay modern), dedication and consistency. But knowing that factories in China seem to consistently fail with these basics makes it a manufacturing minefield. Look at the recent viral video about the Swedish shop worker crumpling a set of Chinese handlebars...In Taiwan, these basic characteristics tend to be the rule, rather than the exception.

+Maglia Nera Aren't many chinese made wheels made by taiwanese companies? Also i read that some Chinese carbon rims like Yoeleo are extremely good.

Wonder how much the workers are payed?..
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-RUqso97VafA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAABk/doN42oM1t84/photo.jpg?sz=64
+Luca Ball Workers are paid competitive wages for the local market. As you can see in other videos, you will see some of the same faces in videos spanning 5 or 6 years apart. These same people are working at the factory today, almost 2 years later.Poor wages means high turnover. Competitive wages make for long-term, happy employees. Some of these workers have been with the company for nearly 2 decades.

Don't get me wrong, I likw US built products but who has the money for it? Unless you are rich or have a sponsor many of these performace pieces are priced sky high. Taiwan gets bashed from many in all industries but Taiwan is NOT dirt cheap labour. Cheaper? Yes but not dirt cheap, exploited workers like many here make them out. Taiwan is a extremely productive and advanced area and not some dirt floored toilet. They produce some of the best production products out there. Not just wheels but my Spyderco knives built in their Taiwan facility are easily superior to the US produced knives. It wasn't too long ago that Japan was in that position but that sure changed big time, to the point where being made in Japan has become a sign of quality enough to be marketed on its own, Taiwan is the nest Japan.

+dieselphiend Yeah, hopefully more and more of us will understand this too. Funny, Japan once had a horrible reputation but they managed to change that around and I feel Taiwan is in the exact same position.

+schlooonginator Many Americans know this, I'm one of them. Taiwan is one of the most advanced countries on earth.

I read that bikes made in Taiwan are of better quality overall than those made in China? If so is this due to not only the manufacturing process but also the metallurgy being employed?
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64
+Kirk Hargreaves Things Made in Taiwan are generally of higher quality than those Made in China. China copies other proven products and manufacturers them with sometimes subpar quality parts.

Sorry, but I wouldn't want a bike built by a bunch of soulless zombies with no love for what the're doing or building ......
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-w1hT96f8mqk/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAADA/V8GuWohARfg/photo.jpg?sz=64
Whatever Jig .....
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-gnz9__jZ-MQ/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAABQ/i46TwBaojAs/photo.jpg?sz=64
Yeah because the millions of people who buy bikes want to spend thousands of dollars on a "hand built" frame made with love. Shut up you Fred. You sound like your ride a fixie.
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-w1hT96f8mqk/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAADA/V8GuWohARfg/photo.jpg?sz=64
If someone only cycles a few times a year absolutely buy the cheapest bike possible .. We're talking about high end bikes here and people who actually use them ....
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64
+patwang84 the Colnago C59 and C60 might be produced in Italy...they might not be as well but the the new V1-R on down are made in Asia! Whether it has a Scuderia Shield or not...
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64
+LRGHMN that is also not correct. people in this world are only looking straight, but you have to think my friend. A bike is always made for the occasion. Think about what you said. There are lots of people in the world who are very lazy in sports! they cycle 2-3 times a year and take the car then. Do you want to sell them a custom bike fopr 5-6000 dollar? nonsense if he or she will only cycle 5-6 times a year to buy milk?in this case it makes sense to buy him or here a bike fpr 250 dollar that you can cycle 20 times exactly 4 years fo that user! haha!
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64
+The 007 Theory that is not true! some manufactors such as Colnago produce their stuff in China ant Taiwan. But the higher or some models of Colnago´s frame are produced in Italy!!!
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-w1hT96f8mqk/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAADA/V8GuWohARfg/photo.jpg?sz=64
+The 007 Theory They make every bike you've been led to believe is high end ....  Don't believe the hype !! Go with a custom frame builder where as you will actually know the guy building your bike but unfortunately for people who only buy bikes ridden in the pro peloton this may not work for your ever so fragile ego.......
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64
+patwang84 Giant does not own these brands but manufactures them all in China and Taiwan.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64
+The 007 Theory Wow what are you talking here?If de rosa, Specialized all belong to Giant, why do they call it de rosa and not giant or specialized? And why do those companies have the headquarters in different region? my friend Giant care about who wins because they don´t own those brands.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64
Giant does not care which brand wins in the International Pro Peloton because no matter who wins Giant always wins. Because they make just about every high end road bike. Colnago Bianchi BMC Cipollini De Rosa Specialized etc...
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64
+paul mcgrath paul you can´t afford your dream bike? Trek Superfly cost up to 2599€ and Giant dEfy from 800-1600€ The question would be how much can you spend or what is your budget.Sachs and Pegoretti bikes or frames cost usually around 2000€ but you have a masterpiece. the total bike with all components will cost 2500-3500€ but then you have a masterpiece from a great bike builder!those bike builders don´t create mtb´s or fullys just classic roadbike or sometimes cross bikes!
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64
+patwang84 Haha...........I can not afford my dream bike!!! Will have to make do with my Trek Superfly & Giant Defy...... Will check out those builders you mention cant beat a bit of bike pron Lol....
