Organic Peppers & Insects - Whiteflies Don't Like Them
In late April, I prepared the soil in my raised beds for planting peppers. At that time, I added cottonseed meal, bone meal, wood ash, Azomite, composted horse ...
Hey Danny, just wanted to let you know you,ve been a huge insperation to me
growing. I live in town now here in west virginia but am hoping to be out
of town on our own land growing and providing food for people. This is our
first year really growing even though its a total of 120 square feet
between our four plots. As our first real growing year i have concidered it
a success. What you're doing down there is basically the same thing we
would like to do.So please pray and keep them videos coming
Chickens definitely. No reason to delay. Check out PolyFace Farms chicken
tractors for a cheep and easy way to make a profit on chickens first year.
They will provide both insect control and all the extra manure you need to
really get those worms going crazy! Second, look up "companion planting" on
wiki. I use marigolds, borage, celantro, sweet basil, rosemary around my
tomatoes. You can also grow oregano around the peppers. Just keep the herbs
trimmed so they don't crowd out the veggies.
ive been farming and growing organic for many years and in my experience a
healthy plant will as im sure you know be much more resistant to disease
and pests but what i would be concerned about is the fact that no one has
really proven that cottonseed meal doesnt transfer pesticides. stories
conflict as with everything but i would worry that the cottonseed meal
carried some kinda nasty pesticide residual into your garden. i pray that
isnt the case, grow safe, thanks for the video
I would guess the Azomite that adds trace minerals that the soil and plants
need. So it helps make the plants be healthier, so the plants then have a
natural resistance to the bugs. It really is the combination of everything
healthy soil=healthy plants, but I would suggest the Azomite as one of the
biggest parts because is contains so many different needed minerals. Check
out John @ /user/growingyourgreens and he has great videos explaining it.
I'm in south Florida and the white flies are brutal. I have tried all the
tricks to keep them off my pepper plants. I used worm castings, azomite
,manure and insect frass with no luck. Maybe the cottonseed or leaves has
some magic. I have them in buckets watered with masterblend and they grow
as fast as my hydroponics. Both get the white fly. Water blasts almost
daily and soap blasts every week help keep them in control.

You are so blessed to have such a large garden. I didn't get mine in this
year because of the fires I had to evacuate my town once and many people
lost their homes. I really miss my garden this year so I enjoy watching
your videos and seeing how your garden is coming along. I'm going to miss
my canned veggies this winter but, I have to work on fires and help save
other's homes so it's a good trade off. Keep making videos!
Bobby... It is really simple. You are doing it God's way and have healthy
soil which translates in to healty plants (no chemicals). Healthy plants
have far fewer pest issues. Since I have gone organic (7 years now) it is
very rare that I use oil or sporanisan, or anything else. I have my worm
castings and compost tea going nonstop. and I amend my beds every time I
turn one over. Keep up the good work and the good fight!
I will find out why. It has to do with the fact it stays prsent for a long
time. They used to use it in personal insect sprays/roll on here until
about 2 years ago. The lady in the pharmacy store told me products with it
have been removed from the shelves due to finding it builds up in the skin
and it has cancer causing properties... I will ask her for some more info
as we are going to town tomorrow.
Yep I'd say the azomite too, With all the rare minerals in that stuff your
plants should have a wide spectrum of mineral and I've known plants to do
the same. I think it has something to do with the overall health of the
plant itself, and some hormones that repel insects. Now if the stuff would
just keep the rabbits out of my sweet potatoes :) Thanks for the video man,
God bless!
Looks great! A trace mineral blend helps plants be as healthy as possible
and keep all their defenses against insects at their strongest. That and
things like sea90 work miracles in your body too when you eat the things
grown in them. U.S. farm soil is crazy depleted. Think I heard you have to
eat 40 2012 tomatoes to equal the nutrition of one WWII tomato. Thanks for
the updates.
It would be great if you got some Chickens Bobby, there's so many benefits
to having them.I have a 5 ft.stock wire fence around my property so they
free range and I rarely even see a grasshopper.I use a little bit of the
chicken manure in my compost tea and the maters love it.I learned last year
not to use it on squash plants though because they burn real easy.
Your a busy busy man Mr Bobby... My uneducated guess would be that the
plants were that healthy with all you amended with that their own defenses
(capsaicin) kicked in to repel the bugs but someone probably said that
already.. (too many comments to go through sorry) I would of said 6 on the
tomato roots BTW ;D» Have a great one..
Want to make a fortune? Bottle some of your energy and enthusiasm.I know
I'd be buying a case or two. I can't believe one guy can maintain
everything you have going on there - and your place looks awesome.I'd love
to see a TV channel that was just videos like yours. Better than anything
that's on regulat tv - that's for sure.
Considering how prolific whiteflies are, and the way they devoured my bell
peppers last year, I am very happy with what has transpired. Dealing with
whiteflies is a bigtime headache. Not having to worry about them on the
peppers is a huge relief for me. Now, if I could just get them to stay away
from the tomatoes.
If the bees did like the ladybugs, it would not be a good idea. I bought
3000 ladybugs for the greenhouses. When I first turned them loose, they
were everywhere. I had lots of aphids for them to eat. 2 days later, they
had checked out...and left me holding the bag ! Hopefully the bees would be
more hospitable.
I wonder about the c-meal too. What I find interesting is that it will
often have the BT gene it. I have no idea if it would be possible to get
the BT residue into the pepper plants root system. BT by itself is fairly
safe...but in this case, I dunno. I'll keep going and further evaluate what
is taking place.
not sure what you used in your soil but things like high amounts of worm
casting (or the azomite) will allow the plants to produce more chitinase
when they are stressed, the chitinase taste bitter to the flies and if they
keep eating it there outer chitin shells will start to break down.
It makes you wonder about weak plants. Are they weak because of the bugs?
Or are they weak and get taken advantage of by the bugs. With cooler
weather and rain, your stuff should be taking off. Things seem to grow very
well heading into the fall, assuming they survived the heat of summer.
I see in your description that you added Wood Ash to your soil. I was under
the impression that wood ash in soil is not good. WHen water is added to
it, it will release Lye, which is highly caustic and damaging to the roots.
That's what I've read any way. Is that not the case?
Its been a rough year for a lot of folks. Drought and fires have been hard
to deal with. We were very dry in May and June, but the rains came in
mid-July and its been fairly wet since then, especially the last 2 weeks.
Hopefully things will be better for you next year. Thanks.
Yep, definitely something going on down there. It's gonna be awhile on GH
#3. I have lot of other work to do first. And I still haven't decided
exactly what I'm gonna use it for. I'm thinking primarily hydroponics, with
maybe a small aquaponics setup just to try it out.
Not sure that is such a great idea to use Azomite. Might help the bugs stay
away, but it contains aluminum. Azomite is also known as Hydrated Sodium
Calcium Aluminosilicate and is not something I would want to ingest.
Aluminum is bad for the body in any form.
Real Fast Recipes: How To Make Meatloaf Recipe
Remember when you were a kid and all you wanted was some delicious, hot, comforting meatloaf to keep you warm through those cold winter nights?
@realfastrecipes Hmmm the dijon mustard and brown sugar sound like it would
be tasty, have used to baste the last 5 mins on pork chops but might be
good on meatloaf too. I made last nite and pattied out like a burger, fried
in a skillet sprayed with Pam. 92 degrees so too hot to fire up the oven.
@KissHope I totally agree. I've made it with the ketchup inside and it was
extra delicious. I definitely recommend try a mix of honey dijon mustard,
brown sugar, and ketchup for extra deliciousness coating. Thanks for the
feedback!
your recipe was super easy! i"ve never had meatloaf with potato in it. i
think i could have diced them a little smaller but, everything was great!
thank you soooooo much.
Not all plants look great in hanging planters, because most of the time planters that are hanging are placed at eye level or above. Many upright plants, especially ...
