Hey ! Never knew that Mr. Denver ever song that "Beatles" song
(Lennon-McCartney e.o.). WONDERFULLY married to that in- & outro of
"Blackbird bye bye" ! But then again.... Haaa!!! Long live the Beatles no?
Thanks ! Rene
+james1081cc Brewer and Shipley actually wrote and recorded the song. Lawrence Welk featured it on his show and it's pretty likely he had no clue what it was about.

Many artists have covered this classic Marty Robbins song including Glen
Campbell, Pat Boone, Hank Snow, Raul Malo, Jim Ed Brown, Roy Drusky, The
Grateful Dead and Grady Martin to name a few. They have all been worthy
versions, but this is one of the best, by an artist much admired by Marty
Robbins.
+tarquin45 I saw John in concert in 1980 and he sang this song and I fell in love how he sang it. Live it was so beautiful and the music with it. I love Marty Robbins since very young (1958/59) and never really heard anyone else sing it, but John's version was amazing. I think a few years ago on YT I came across John singing El Paso in his Boston concert and it just wasn't as good as when I heard it in San Diego in 1980. When I saw John, even the way he was moving back and forth with his guitar was different than usual and I saw John 5 times in concert, including in Lake Tahoe (1975). The first time I saw John was 1974. Again in 1978, and at Universal Studios with George Burns around 1981. An amazing talent and special soul we were blessed with for his time on earth.
I always think that Marty is one of the most important figures in Western music. This is a wonderful song. Thanks for the kind comments.
