You need some weather strip adhesive to glue the valve cover gasket TO the
valve cover. It's the yellow glue at the parts store. It dries really fast
and keeps the gasket from moving when you install the valve cover. Line up
the bolts holes and glue the gasket down. Let dry for a few hours. Then a
thin bead, repeat THIN bead of silicone on the FelPro cork valve cover
gasket. The FelPro is $9 at Autozone. Snug down the bolts until it GENTLY
squeezes out the silicone SLIGHTLY. Let dry for 24 hours. Once dry GENTLY
snug the bolts down. Don't over torque them, just a gentle snug is all you
need. The silicone will glue the valve cover down.
All true and all good. Mine's been leak free since I changed it over to that Aluminum valve cover, and I'm happy with it. I did have to drill and tap a new valve cover screw hole, if I'm remembering correctly. I'm sure I made a video of it when I did it.. Thanks for the info!
If you go on bj's offroad you can buy a really nice metal valve cover with
all the screws gasket for like $80 that's what I did to my 82 Cherokee and
it don't leak a drop anymore!
