project 1991 Jeep WRANGLER (Jeep YJ), part 60, FUEL GAUGE
My newest vehicle project! 1991 Jeep Wrangler, hard top, 5 speed, 2.5 L, (started as a) TOTAL SHIT BOX! Follow my progress as I clean, repair and upgrade this ...
When you take out your gauges, clean all the copper on the tape piece. Most
of the time that's why the gas gauge quits. Other than the plastic piece in
your tank. The plastic gets warped from the gas and will mess with the
float in the tank giving you false readings.
Yeah, my tank was replaced with a clean, used tank. I personally inspected the plastic baffle inside. It was used but not warped. The gauge reads pretty accurate but fluctuates with fuel slosh.
That green would drive me nuts! Ugh. I bet you're right about the others
just being faded out though.
I'd say after re-clocking that needle your empty point will be about when
the needle is about to touch the red low fuel section. Looks like it's
reading just past the full mark now with the full tank of gas.
+UndergroundTrev I'm sure it will only take another 25 years to fade to blue!!!!! The needle is easy enough to adjust based on how this tank of gas burns.
I can't reply to comments if you have that feature disabled in your google settings. It literally won't allow a reply.
