The correct way to tighten your dirtbike's front wheel
When fitting your front wheel you must ensure that you do not pull the forks out of alignment and cause binding of the forks. This is the right way to do it. Please ...
i dont know what bike you've got but in most cases the axle it machined
with a larger diameter on the opposite side to the nut.So by tightening the
nut it pulls the against the spacers on the hub and holds everything in
place regardless of if the pinch nuts are tight. The pinch bolts are there
to secure the forks in place once the axle nut is tight, but can be used to
hold the axle for tightening as long as the are loosened again to allow for
realignment as demonstrated in the video
@117LIGHT117 It's ok for the top of the triple clamps to be tight - as long
as the lower bolts do not crimp the tube. It's possible that the forks have
been tweaked out of alignment in a crash. I would loosen all the bolts on
the triple clamps and on the feet of the forks as well as the axle nut.
Grab each fork tube and work it back and forth a bit. Then work the front
wheel back and forth a bit and try to get it to settle straight before you
tighten everything up again.
nice vid... I have a problem with my bike if u can help, its an 02 cr250
and the front wheel is turned a little more to the right, the forks are
straight but on the top triple clamp when u tighten the bolts the little
gap in between is pinched in so there isnt a gap... Not sure if thats the
problem or do i just have to do what u did to the wheel, if you can give me
some advice it be much appreciated
Why do you not tell people to get the right tool? You need an axle insert
to hold the axle from spinning while tightening. After you think you have
the nut tight by the way you describe, and you loosen the axle clamp, and
the axle pulls the forks back together against the spacers, you could have
a loose axle nut again, in theory. Just get the right tools and do it
correctly.
Does this occur under braking or acceleration? Are your forks out of
alignment? Have the triple clamps been damaged or tweaked in any way? Is
the fork action smooth or is it binding somewhere in the stroke? It's hard
to know what the issue is without dismantling the front end and inspecting
all the components for wear or damage.
Check your fork alignment. Loosen all the bolts on your fork tree and the
bolts on foot of your forks. Then twist the forks back and forth and try to
get everything to settle into a neutral position. then tighten everything
back up. Check that your forks are level in the triple clamps.
can someone please help me my front dirt bike tire does not move freely it
moves but if i put it up on my bikestand and try to spin it it has no free
play can someone help me i think it's because my brakepads are touching the
but i don't know how to loosen them.
It's unlikely to make the seal leak right away, but over time it could
cause problems with excessive wear and premature leakage of the fork seal.
You should be more worried about your fork bushes getting worn and binding
of the forks affecting performance.
hi ive just replaced the seals on my 09 kx450f got it all back together but
after lining up te axle it leaves a 1mm gap between the spacer and fork any
wat do i do? the wheel spins fine and sits strong with no play..... what
can i do?
good stuff, bought a yz 450 ,the service manual dosnt have anything on the
front wheel and iv only worked on cartridge forks where the axle tightens
into the fork leg and i was stuck as to procedure ,thankyou very much.
How to easily and properly install KTM forks/suspension

You have some great, helpful videos Rob! What is the cordless driver you
are using? I want to get a cordless driver just for disassembly and
pre-assembly (of course using torque wrench for final torque). What would
you recommend (it will really be exclusively used on dirt bikes)? And how
do you prevent over torquing with that driver you are using (especially on
the smaller bolts)?

I think the F650 is more of an enduro (Sertao or the old Dakar model) and
the V-Strom less and the Versys even less. If you watch my clips you see
what I do and what abuse the bike can take. You could certainly put
knobbies on the Strom and the Versys but less ground clearance would be a
major issue for me as would the 19" front tire. A DR650 or KLR are choices
as well if you don't mind the low power on the road. You will certainly
like less weight on the trail! Compromise time.....
i plan on longer trips on the highway also so it needs some power dealers
that we have talked to said that the dr and klr struggle on the higher
speeds and the only thing i am worried about with the versys and strom is
dropping them because there is a lot more to break where your 800 can take
major abuse and i dont want to be worried about dropping the bike and
breaking alot of stuff on the bike. kind of takes away from the whole off
road feeling!
@boxwoodgreen If you google "f800 axle tool " you'll see that lots of
companies make them. I added the link to the one I bought to the
description of the video since you can't post links in comments.
They are fine but a big rock will bend anything! Check out Renazco Racing
and mention the advrider site and get 10% off. Twealcom makes them and they
are available at F800Depot as well.
Hey - sitting here in Ulaanbaatar Mongolia, watching your videos. Good job.
My F800GS arrived on Tuesday and this weekend I will be getting it ready
for these "roads" . Thanks !
great video! i think the other Awesome Players should have been there to
provide some colorful commentary while you worked on your bike....lol
please post more vids

How to remove KTM forks.
In this video, motolabdirtbikes.com Rob Kozler shows you how to easily remove your front forks on your KTM, or any dirt bike for that matter.
Thanks man! My 200 is sitting in my shop with the pinch bolts loose and the
front tire still on. I just needed to see that axle bolt slide off and make
sure the fork tubes came out the bottom... did not want to mess with my
handlebars. Nice touch with the head mounted camera by the way.
+Rocky Mountain ATV MC they are all the same lenght and angle, I am using the same pattern as you did in the video, i think i got the wrong spokes sent by mistake, already talked to the guys and the right set is on the way.
+Miguel Nader Ok, for the front 21" wheel they're all the same length spoke. You shouldn't have an issue with them being to long. Unless.. you ordered the spoke kit for the wrong machine or the spoke kit was packaged wrong? Can you measure a couple of your spokes and tell me what you get? I can check the length on ours here in the warehouse and see what we get? Thanks
What kind of motorcycle wheel is that one?, I have a Tusk rim and spoke kit
for a 2007 crf450r and the spokes seem to be too long, maybe I need a
different pattern than the one shown here?
+Miguel Nader What wheel are you lacing, front or rear? I only checked the rear for you.. So let me know if it is the front you are doing and i can go look at those for you aswell. Thanks
+Miguel Nader I went and inspected the spokes that come with the rim and spoke kit. It comes with two different lengths of spokes. Your service manual will tell you where each length of spoke goes. Are you installing the correct spoke in the right spot? If this doesn't help, let me know and we can see about getting the correct spokes for you.
+MisterBitex Nope. WD40 is not grease and barely a lubricant. It was engineered as a Water Displacer (WD), at which it's extremely good at. Use good old fashioned bearing grease, or a while lithium grease.
TVS gives ABS in RTR sub 200cc motorcylces, I fail to understand why other
companies can't do that ? Its not about the CC, on a wet road even a 100cc
motorcycle could well with ABS - so I have to disagree with you on that
"Ride with Rahul". This is the sort of complacency that these companies are
exploiting. Auto journalists and company engineers and designers are
equally to blame for this, they should put their foot down and at least
give it as an option for the not so cost-concious buyers.
Are we really saying that buyers are not willing to spend an extra amount
for safety ? Show them a video of with ABS and without ABS - and then tell
me if a customer is willing to shell out an extra EMI (if on loan) or some
more cash for safety.
The government should also make it mandatory for automakers to include
this.
+Tejus Vyas well, I agree that everything should have ABS but if it's not viable for cost options then atleast start providing ABS on 125 cc above motorcycles. Now the thing is, Indian market is not aware of safety things, and that is why a lot of people on the street wear sub standard helmets and people like me who wear a lot of gear get laughed at!The thing is people here don't really care about ABS and the lack of awareness is huge. This video wanted to build awareness and the discussion it has generated here and on other online forums makes me happy.Yes, I 100% agree about the journalist's duty. They should try to build the awareness more actively. But they don't mention this in the reviews.Govt. has made it mandatory from 2017 but they made it C-ABS. Now I don't know whether that is a great move or an idiotic move. Because I am not a fan of C-ABS. They should have let the companies decide, whether to put ABS or C-ABS.
+Ashish more I don't have a video on that yet. I plan to make one soon, but it's not getting done... maybe next month I can make the How to stunt series for you guys... here is a short promo... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MgqaK3Z4ZkU

+Ride With Rahul That Ninja guy just failed to grab handful of the front brakes and out of panic, he used the rears. The stopping power distribution is 70 % to front. You guys were slowing down from a mere 110 to around 60 and had a good length of tarmac to slow down and yet the rider was feathering the brake till the last moment of the panic braking using rears ( he did that because of the guy in front braked , see tail light of the bike in the front of ninja glowing and then he bites the rear) Just watch how long the brake lights glow in the Ninja and when the rear locks. That clearly shows that he did not use the front brakes properly. Repeated practice is required to learn how to brake the fronts , how to blip and how to lean in repeatedly that it becomes a muscle memory. Muscle memory never fails us even during emergency. The problem is, we fail to imbed these skills and look around wanting for slipper clutch and ABS. Added safety is always nice though.
+Ganesh Pandian he applied the front, still the bike wasn't slowing down fast enough, so he used the rear as well for increasing the stopping power gradually, and it started the skid. Yes, a more skilled rider could have managed to use both the brakes without locking up. But during panic braking, sometimes our skills go out of the window and then ABS, if it's there, saves the day. I hope you understand my point.

I got the dongle for my 2014 enduro R in hopes it would turn off the ABS. I
don't want to feel that ABS jitter on my levers... ever. I think rear off
is the best this dongle will do for me if I am understanding correct?
