it is because when he lands on the top, his hips are at tge platform level, but then he stands up and jumps down from that position. That is why I kinda ignore these jumps, because they are more about technique and flexibility then about the leap. With all that being said, I still think he's a good jumper, but for all who admire this I want to remind and re-think the ridiculous statements of some people having 50-60‘‘ vertical leap. Vertical leap that magnitude would mean somebody being able to achieve this guys final standing position on the platform, or better said almost jumping over him with straight legs. Based on that most of the guys claiming 50+ inch vert are more 40+ inch jumpers

+Tauli Simo That's the world highest Dive, not Jump.Diving is more technical, requires at least one rotation in the air and also leave the pool under your own effort for it to be qualified. Neither of which Laso did in this jump. I'm not trying to down play what Laso did here, it took massive amounts of balls of steel to accomplish what he just did. These horses love a challenge, the tail flip is a mix of excitement and what they've been trained to do to avoid their tails knocking the polls. I will agree too much of this is a danger and poor riding won't help but it won't shorten their life.I've just spent the entire day watching similar videos and there is always one person leaving comments like yours...
