Actually, you can. Many people may not know about this, but in the Vietnam
War,the U.S. soldiers used to pour gasoline from their jeeps inside their
lighters. This method didn't got popular because it is dangerous and can
damage your lighter in a long-term.Also,once you use gasoline, you shall not
put any other flammable liquids inside the Zippo until you remove and
change the cotton inside it.Hope I've helped, good luck with your Zippos!

+CrimsonSkyz Yeah, mine doesn't even last that long. Truth is, Zippo's aren't that well made. I've heard of people refilling only once every two months. But mine and the one I gifted to my dad last nowhere near as long. There's obviously a leak that causes gas to evaporate.
Zippo : I Don't Have Lighter Fluid...What Else Can I Use?
The smoke you're seeing is essentially vaporized lamp oil. The vapor
ignites easily, the liquid has a lower flash point, so it won't ignite when
it's cool. Cool trick: light a candle, blow it out, you can light the
smoke, and it will trail all the way down to the wick to re-ignite it.
Wardy from JWS Reviews demostrates how to refill or "moisten" a Zippo Windproof Lighter A Zippo lighter is a refillable, metal lighter manufactured by Zippo ...
+Arya Ahmadi Can still fix it, all you gotta do is re-cotton your lighter inside and also change the wick incase if it is soaked with petrol. After you remove it, wipe the insides so that there is no petrol left. When you're done changing the cottons and wick, just refill it with the Zippo fuel and you're good to go!! Looks complicated but it's not. Trust me....been there once hahahahahahaahaha
Using charcoal lighter fluid is unsafe and damaging to the lighter.
Instead, you should use naphthalene-based lighter fluid, like Zippo's
lighter fluid, which is designed for optimum Zippo performance.
Just made a quick video of how to fill a Zippo. Its self explanitory, but sometimes it helps to see someone do it before you try it. Very easy though, should only ...
if you ever get a chance when you are down in Beddington go to the Zippo
lighter museum. It is a little jewel box and the staff are the best. Case
knives are gorgeous too. two thumbs up.
Wow... great safety displayed there.. Dripping lighter fluid while
pouring, not wipe off after you done, Lighting the lighter right next to
the lighter fluid can?? Apparently need to spend some time learning how to
keep the camera in focus as well.
No. butane is only liquid when out under pressure, like in a lighter. Otherwise it just evaporates.
Cheap Zippo Fuel
I made this video for Australians, mainly, who don't want to pay ridiculous amounts of money for genuine Zippo lighter fluid. The best alternative, in my opinion is ...
+smallenginedude71 i realy like those zippo lighters but they anoy the shit out of me every day i have to refil them with zippo fluid but with gasoline it works 2-3 days i duno what to do with them :P
+Jimmy Strudel if it has similar consistency to lighter fluid, it should work. The only thing is depending on purity, the fluid may leave lots of sut/black smoke on certain surfaces.
If you want to use butane gas get a thunderbird zippo insert. Fiy i bought a "Blazer" brand insert and had to use knife lube to get it out of my favorite zippo.... Dont buy the blazer ones get the thunderbird if anything. Hope that helps.
Butane is no good since it is in gas form at room temperature and pressure. Not sure what charcoal fluid is. If you're in America look for Ronsonol lighter fluid, Zippo lighter fluid or Coleman's white gas. In emergency situations you can use nearly any flammable liquid. Thanks for watching.
Just bought zippo fluid 5bux in my local chunese guy cig shop i looked 4
this stuff 2day @ bunnings and couldn't find it in melb... where'd u buy
it?
most anything will work in a zippo, the only things to consider is how hot
it burns and how clean it burns. dont use flammable oils like lantern oil
bcuz the oil will leave residue and gunk it all up and then it wont work.
now ANY lighter fliud will work, the main reason it didn't in the vid was
that it was overfilled. after overfilling what happens is the chimney gets
full of vapors and the main ingredient in fire is oxygen and with there
being to much vapors, no air to light a fire
I have refilled several bics and other disposable lighters. They're so
cheap now unless you're just in love with one it isn't worth the time. You
have to unscrew the valve that the flame comes out of.
Charcoal fluid works perfectly fine for me. 1 or 2 strikes and its going. I
probably wouldn't suggest this if you use your zippo for lighting
cigarettes.
