I'm mostly about the single player experience as well. I kinda go through
cycles though where I play a multiplayer game online for a while (month or
two) and am just playing that, then I get bored and play a couple single
player games through that are on my backlog, and repeat haha. Sometimes I
get kinda sick of gaming altogether and spend the time on movies or tv
shows. I get bored after enough time with too much of any one thing I
guess. Gaming certainly is the highest priority of those interests though
and if I had to give up multiplayer or singleplayer and just keep one of
those two, I'd be giving up on multiplayer for sure, no question.
They don't hold your hand in these old games which makes them really challenging. There's also no heath meter over the boss battles so you never know how close you are to victory, making it easy to rage-quit more than a few times.
+vinniecorleone62 haha I recognize that name, Tavion, but I don't recall the fight. It takes some patience to get through boss battles like that lol It's funny now but at the time doing those I get so mad XDI do remember JA's levels feeling more rushed or just not as well designed as Outcast's. Outcast was better in that area for sure.
+Icza I saw the addition of optional Light Side & Dark Side Force Powers on that Let's Play of "Jedi Academy", I love the many RPG elements & customization. It's a toss up as to which game I like better from what I've seen. The refined lighting effects & extra vibrant color palette in "Academy" is very nice but I think I prefer the more complex & confined level design of "Outcast", especially the many authentic Imperial interiors, intense platforming & the wonderful City in the Clouds of Bespin. The controls are perfect on the original Xbox, I think there's an extra level also on the Xbox port which I'm looking forward to. I finally beat Tavion in that God-awful boss battle at the end of the Bespin levels, over 50 attempts, needless to say I save this game often similar to PC games.
+vinniecorleone62 Those games were certainly something special. They achieved one thing amazingly, making you feel like jedi. Especially in Jedi Academy as you get to hand craft your character to some degree and choose the kind of jedi you want to play as. I thought the way they handled the gameplay of lightsaber battles was revolutionary as well. I played the games on PC so I'm not sure how it handles on consoles. I used mouse and keyboard and it was actually brilliant controls. Enjoy those man.
+Icza Believe it or not, no, never heard of them. My dad bought me a small paperback in '77 or '78 called "Splinter of the Minds Eye" (I think it's called) & it was kool then as a kid but once I saw how different "The Empire Strikes Back" was I had a hard time even desiring to read other writer's versions of the story. Now that I'm much older & hungry for more "Star Wars" action, especially with great interactive video games based on the canon & characters, I love these "Jedi Outcast" & "Jedi Academy" stories & characters with very authentic settings, droids, Imperial troops, spaceships, locations in the films & especially characters from the films like Luke, Lando, Chewy, C3PO, R2D2 & others. I just finished watching a play-through of "Jedi Academy" after viewing all of "Jedi Outcast" which I'm over halfway through now on my old Xbox. These games are quickly becoming absolute favorites to me & they are ultra immersive, I dig them even more as I'm an enormous fan of Raven Software who make so many of my favorite games. The level design & attention to detail is incredible IMO, I need to order "Jedi Academy" next off Ebay as I can't find it complete with manual locally.
Speaking of the expanded universe, did you ever read the Timothy Zahn trilogy? I think it's actually known as the Thrawn trilogy but TZ was the author. I'm sure you know about them, they're pretty old now. There's also a graphic novel version of those books. They're pretty awesome for a look at what could have happened after RotJ. Although now we're getting episodes 7-9 so.. XD
I recently just discovered a few of these "Star Wars" games, I mostly played the Hell out of the 2 "Battlefront" games in the mid 2000s, so as a big "Star Wars" fan myself I'm getting a kick out of this expanded universe. I used to get rid of so many games I played but now I see the value of keeping the ones I loved just in case.
I had a lot of fun with those two games back then. I used to be a huge Star Wars fan as well and still am but not to the same degree that I used to be.My game collection is mostly just me hanging onto all the games I buy to play. I've gone back a bit to get some old stuff I lost along the way but I haven't gotten too deep into collecting aside from that. I never trade games in or anything, I just try to keep all I've played so that I can play them again down the road if I want to. From that standpoint I understand your issues with server based multiplayer :/
+Icza I only dig the split-screen MP & co-op which is very rare anymore as my nephew lives in another state now. I go through different moods as well & sometimes simply watch a YT play-through of a game or two I like, which is exactly what I'm doing now, I finished a walk-through of "Jedi Outcast", now I'm watching one of "Jedi Academy" even though I don't own the game yet. My point is I enjoy "saving" my favorite game experiences for a rainy day, that's what my main reason is for collecting games, movies & music. Thanks bud.
im 23 yrs old, and still love playing on my ps2 and gamecube etc even
though i have a ps4. i agree a lot of younger people online shouting and
just being annoying is bad, but i just go into party chat even if im
playing by myself online so i dont have to hear them. im fortunate to have
a couple of good friends that i play online with regularly and we just chat
and have a laugh, but theres definitely some days where i just like to sit
there with a beer and relax playing a single player game. although im very
excited for the multiplayer aspect of the new battlefront i would of loved
to have had a campaign in it too. having owned a ps4 since release date ive
had a great deal of fun on multiplayer gta 5 (single player was good too
tho) but the most fun i had was in shadows of mordor which is a single
player only game and dragon age inquisition (which is single player
orientated with an added multiplayer).
+LukeHB21 I like split screen MP but live for single-player gaming. Half of my friends love multi-player too along with a good solo campaign. Enjoy your games & thanks.
I played a Korean game on Steam. It was called Rusty Hearts. You could only
play online on one of the servers in North America, Europe or Asia. The
servers were shut down in September 15th, 2014. To me, that's how you
"kill" a game. Running a server-based game doesn't last forever.
+darig0n I passed on "Destiny" & so many others when I learned of their "true server-based nature". Thanks bud.

Thanks for putting this up as a tribute to Jim. It was such sad news. He
passed away on Sept. 11th of a heart attack. Makes Sept. 11th an even worse
day than it's already become over the last 8 years. This is a fun take on
his great original song. ;)
When did he die? I remember a few years ago, he was going to do a show
where I was living, and I didn't get to go, but convinced myself it was
okay, because I'd catch him the next time he came around. Guess not.
Batman would obviously win anyway before u call me a retard let's think
batman has body armor where spider man has none batman has more strength
and more gadgets like baterangs grappling hook smoke bombs so yea
