the chromebook sucks! here are the reasons why:
- there are no good illastrating or drawing apps
-you can't download ANYTHING unless ot's already on the computer
-you can't trun off touchscreen
-whenever you go to tilt the screen you exit out of what you were in.
-without internet it's a box with gears and wires in it.
-you can't save pics from google that you like.
-you can't show pictures you've taken on it.
-etc.
this is for people who are asking why people hate this computer.
I still have the same problem on my Chromebook (the only one of two that
still works at all) - it remains mute all the time except that I can trick
it by signing in as a GUEST, and somehow I CAN hear the sound, but if I
log back in as myself, it goes MUTE again. This is a pretty sick problem,
especially if one goes to Chromebook Central Help Forum and gets false help
that does NOTHING.
+bodryn Added note: now when I go to Chromebook Help Forum, and click on "reply", (where I see a WHOLE LOT of people have this same problem) the click is "dead", i.e., it just sits there and won't let me comment. I was going to tell people they can get around it temporarily by logging in as a guest on their own computer. It has always worked for me, for getting the sound back. But Chromebook is NOT welcoming my comments anymore. I wonder why!?!? :D Did I catch them in an embarrassment? :D
i just bought this a couple days ago and i am rather impressed. you can use
the chromebook for pretty much anything but gaming and anything involving a
disk. i only use a computer for the internet and typing out
documents/powerpoint and internet. since you can get pretty much any
desktop application as an app, its really not a bad deal.
Asus brings a Chromebook that gives you the option to use as a laptop, tablet, and convertible. With these options comes a premium build and a sleek look.
It's strange to me to hear you talk about a sub 1080p screen quality
positively. Are you considering the price in your assessment, or do you
simply think that it's able to compete with higher resolutions by default.
Your review is one of many that helped me decide on my Chromebook. There
are a lot of good Chromebooks out there but I chose this one because of the
size, the fanless ARM processor (it's actually not as slow as most people
say it is) and because I'd rather use a matte screen. Thanks!
The reason why it's not as slow as reviewed is due to improvements made by Google to make Chrome squeeze more performance out of the ARM architecture - the OS itself has become more efficient, too.
Thanks for the review. Looks like a great little device. What is your
opinion of the i3 processor vs Haswell? and how will it compare to the
broadwell chips coming?
Thanks so much
Great video, I like how Dell builds there laptops. They look very
professional, I myself have a Dell latitude e6400 and Iv got to say its a
great Windows laptop. I also have a Chromebook thats made by Toshiba. Its
the 1st generation and I thought about upgrading to the new one made by
Toshiba but I dont like the type of processor thats in it. The one thats in
the 1st generation is faster so I dont see how its much of an upgrade other
than the ram. I think if the 1st generation Toshiba Chromebook had 4 GB of
ram instead of 2 GB and maybe had a better screen it would be the perfect
Chromebook. At least for me anyways haha
Sweet! Love the channel man! Awesome detailed reviews. Seeing chrome improve more and more with each update! Maybe you should do a video on installing android apks on Chrome. Whenever you get the time that is! :)
How does the battery hold up with Ubuntu running in the background? Does it decrease the battery life on Chrome OS? Or does it only affect battery life when you're using Ubuntu?
+Charles Alden I agree with you on the 2 gigs issue for an ARM powered Chromebook. It seems that Chrome OS doesn't manage very well the memory onboard, it may be due to its CISC architecture. All the ARM powered laptops with 4 gigs of RAM are very much better, they play as smooth as Intel based laptops but with much better battery life!! If only my HP11 was with 4 gigs of RAM, the IPS panel is excellent, the ARM CPU is good but it really lacks of RAM... Anyway, as I want to buy a new Chromebook, I will check this Asus Flip with 4 gigs and if I can find the 32 gigs storage model... YATAAAAAAAA!!! =P
This has much better build quality and display, plus you have a touch screen. Performance is about the same. What ever you decide make sure you buy the 4GB version. Never, ever buy a laptop with only 2GB of RAM, it just isn't enough, especially if your going to be using Web apps.
I have the first version of the Samsung Chromebook (The 303C I believe) and
it comes pre-installed with anti-virus/protection. I was wondering if this
one also comes with the pre-installed antivirus. Thanks!
+beatswir2533 I run up to 20 tabs without problems or lag, including using such web apps as //audiotool.com/app or streaming Gimp, LibreOffice, InkScape, OpenSCAD, Dia, WhatsApp, Skype, FreeMind, FBreader, HandBake, Eclipse, NetBeans, etc. using the fantastic service https://www.rollapp.com/apps. The 4GB model is an absolute must have to do any of this. Actually I wouldn't even look at the 2GB version, forget it even exists. As there is only a $40 difference I'm not sure why Asus even bothered making a 2GB version. I bet you didn't know you could run any of these app did you, I'm even using Blender. Yep, that's the biggest misconception about Chrome OS, oh it's just a browser, nope, there isn't a single thing that I can't do in Chrome OS. There might be specific applications it can't run but mark my words, my output is exactly the same. I create CAD files, edit videos (fairly professional as well), edit photos, draw using a Bamboo Fine Point Stylus and one of the many drawing programs available, I like GIMP and Pixrl, MS Office, Zoho business apps, the list just goes on and on and on......... People who say that the ChromeBook is useless are completely ignorant of the platform, don't listen to these people!
+Javier Gonzalez its hard to say because I love my Toshiba, but this is a very good device because I also played with it and when you look at the price and functions that this device can do if you only live in a web world its very good. Again the reason I have the Toshiba is because of 2 factors. 1: Toshiba have a IPS display and I have the 4 gigs model. speakers are very good as well.this unit is new so be sure to do your homework and watch some of his videos to be a better education on what your going to buy.
Robby please help me to understand these Octane scores on my Chromebook
Flip: Signed into my account: 6823 Signed in guest mode: 7464. The Flip is
plenty snappy in my account but SEEMS to be even snappier in guest mode.
How should I interpret these Octane numbers?
That's exactly right, I would recommend going through your extensions and doing a little house cleaning. Most of the Google stuff can be turned off as well.
+b Tommy Douglas sometimes extensions are consuming your ram. since you have guest mode, none of your apps or themes, and even more your extensions. Hope that helps!
Acer Chromebook 15 Review
Buy the Acer Chromebook 15: //amzn.to/1S016nG I know the music in the background didn't work out on this one. Here's one with the sound issues ...
+milkbox ninja Chrome OS isn't made for gaming. You cannot install Steam, Origin, or GoG natively on a Chromebook. More advanced users can use a tool called Crouton to get access to Ubuntu, but this isn't recommended for novices.
