So some Christian judge on a power trip is now going to tell you what you can or can't name your child based on her fucking personal religious belief. I agree that naming the little boy "Messiah" may not be the best thing for him down the road but the judge needs to realize that even dumb folks on assistance still have the right to name their children any ole goofy name they want to. Since I'm more than likely paying for a huge portion of her housing, food and medical costs, I want to name him "Welfare". They can call him "Wel" for short :)

In all fairness, we have the most open policy in the world on names. The only problem? Allocating Federal Rights via local, uneducated, backwards, religious-nut judges... In the USA, you do not need a court order to change your name. You can change it any time simply by using the new name for 5 years under CL. However, no State of Federal authority will accept this. WTF good is the law then?

So your religious beliefs dictate what someone can name thier shild? I guarded a Day Care at a federal courthouse in which two children had legitimatly stupid names. Million (Mill E On) and Money (Mo Nay). Both brothers. No shit those are their names. But who's right is it to determine if those are names are unsuitable? Nobody. I may not think they should be used. But they aren't my kids.

You can't have liberty without laws that give human's these rights. The problem anyway is that the Judge has ruled citing religious convictions rather than any secular position she has been paid to actually uphold by law. The fusion of church and state this way is actually forbidden by law. Hence legally there is a strong case against the ruling.

Absurd that the judge rename that child. I know a girl named Tekilla (pronounced tequilla) and that's a liquor. What difference does it make? It's definitely not the judge's place to name the baby. That's the mom and dad's job. Last name, ok, that's what they were in court for in the first place. The judge needs to get over herself!!
