I just installed a navigation radio in my 2013 suburban. I want to get the
rear view camera to work on my navigation unit. It currently runs to the
rear view mirror. Do you know an easy way to do this task? I have heard
of splicing into the kick panel?
thank you for posting this video, I was trying the same method as everyone
else, by trying to find the spring clip. I did not have a flathead anywhere
in the house to even pry it up. Then, I ran across somoone elses video
although I can't find it now. There is a small star tip screw on the back
side of the button where it attaches. It just unsrews and the button comes
off. No prying, no damage and no brute force. I hope this helps, but
honestly if it hadn't been for your video, I would have never known that
there were some mirrors that did not have the spring clip. Thank you.
oh, I'm sorry, I didn't see that. I was just so excited that I found out there was a screw back there that I wanted to let you know if you ever had to get the plate off in the future.
+Cynthia Grumbles I appreciate the review. If you pause the video 1:15 you can see that, unfortunately, my mirror does not have the screw that you mentioned. It looks as though my mirror should have been able to slide off the button but that sucker was firmly in place.

Gentex Rear view Temp. Compass mirror testing
This is a Gentex 177 mirror. Google Gentex compass zones to find out what zone you are in. When I find some more wire, Ill make my own plug and play testing ...
hi i have one of these in my old school chevy tahoe and mine the comp works
just fine but my temp is now reeding SC as in SHORTED CIRCUIT CAN I FIX
THIS OR DO I HAVE TO REPLACE THE POWER MIRORR PLEASE SOMEONE LET ME KNOW
+vern white OC for Open circuit. The wiring has a break, Or maybe the sensor is unplugged, the connector is crappy at the sensor connector or the sensor is bad
+Garry Ingle The reverse wire was green on mine, I just found the wire going to the PRND Switch under the dash and tapped into it. If you wire it to the brake, every time you hit the brakes the mirror will lighten.
OK I just did another bench test with all the lights off and shads drawn and the mirror was dark I used the light green wire and touched the + on the jump box and it got brighter took it off and it went back to dark again did this 3 times to make sure it works good and it does. So now the million dollar question is how to wire it to the brake wire or the reverse wire? and what color wire is it.
also I found a few 4 doors model Chevy's that had the temp sensor located on the under side of the top frame when you open the hood in-between the radiator and frame. going to crazy rays next .
I got one from my local junk yard out of a 2003 Chevy Pu. I have an
2002 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD. I pulled the entire harness and the ambient
sensor harness reinstalled it in my truck ( "But did a bench test first to
figure out what wire did what" ) works great temp is very accurate. Solid
Yellow is Power,,,, Solid Black is ground,,, Black W/ white strip
and Green W/ white stripe go to temp sensor,,, Solid Blue air bag on...
Solid dark Green air bag off... I'm not using the air bag wires don't need
them. Solid Pink not used... Solid Gray not used... Light Green I think
works the auto dim But I cant get it to dim??? It worked on the bench test
but don't remember how I did it? You don't have to go to the revers wire to
make auto dim work you just tie two wires together but cant seen to
recreate how I did it on my bench test??? Please make a better video on
what color you touched to make auto dim work. Also note what wires you are
using and what wire goes to the light green to make auto dim work. Do you
touch positive or negative?
Thanks,
I went back to the junk yard today and got two more abundant temp sensors for spars in sure the dealer will charge at least 100.00 bucks a pop!! junk yard FREE!!!
+Ghetto Wagon My 02 does have a straight 7 wire plug that only has 5 wires, and after the fact I went through the hassle of pulling the wiring that went with the mirror I got I might have been able to get the mirror for that plug and just plugged it in and been done with! and the dealer could not tell me what that plug was for?
+Garry Ingle 2003 may have a square connector for the mirror and it reads AIR BAG on the glass, 2002 has a rectangle connector and it is not a airbag mirror Different setup different series of mirror You need a reverse wire hooked in or else it wont work right If it wont dim the mirror COULD be broken. I built my own harness, That is the best way. I had 2 pink wires, one pink wire controlled the outside mirror dimming, I omitted that. I tested the mirror in a dark area and it went DARK until I put power to the reverse wire. If the mirror does not DIM when its dark its bad. You can take it apart and see if the wires that solder onto the mirror glass are broken. I broke them once when I took one apart so I re soldered it.
Light dimming function of a Rear View Mirror, Demo [HD]
Bill Layton show how "Light dimming function of a Rear View Mirror" works.
"this thing goes over here and that thing is now going to go over there"...
fantastic - this thing here is the future of our education system... I
guess shit like "light refraction" was just too much of a hassle to explain
& teach.
hi, it has 2 light sensor one facing front and another facing rear. during
night time if the rear sensor sensed the light source is greater than the
front it will then auto dim so to answer your 2nd question is "yes"....
thanks!
