I wish i had time for drawing the owl completely. Like i said before due to serious lack of time, i am limiting my drawing into a single eye :P Drawing using ...
+jonathan phillips yes you got the colors correct. except, i used indigo blue and dark umber for black areas, since my black pencil was used up already :P
I have actually already drawn this from the colors i believe were used. Canary yellow, tuscan red, dark brown, cream, orange, and black. I may have used one or two more not sure.
I wanted to play with my colored pen a little and what's better than eyes :) So you have here a little pair of green owl looking eyes ! What do you think ?
Painting a Day Demonstration-Barn Owl by Roberta "Roby" Baer, PSA
I have been asked to paint owls many times and I decided to start with a Barn Owl. I used to raise Persian Cats and the face of the Barn Owl resembles the sweet ...
Hi Roby, What kind of pencil sharpener do you use? The 3 different ones I
have tried for my pastel pencils either doesn't sharpen completely or
breaks off the tip Thanks
+Roby Baer Thanks so much for the reply. I just recently started using pastel pencils and was puzzled how to sharpen without breaking. I will try your suggestion. Thanks!!! Lori
+Lori Hardy Hi Lori, I'm using the X-ACTO Powerhouse electric and I purchase them at Office Max. I have been using them for several years now and though they don't get the best of reviews I've never had any trouble with them. I purchase the warranty for an extra $6 so when the blades get dull I can simply return it for a new one, love that!!! :)) Roby
+Sacred Phalaenopsis Hello Sacred Phalaenopsis ~ Thank you so very much for this lovely comment, how nice of you to take the time to support me! Many thanks~ :)) Roby
Hi, Roby.
Lovely painting!
Can I be cheeky and ask you what sort of paper you are using? There are
many types of paper available for pastel painting nowadays.
I have recently bought some "velour paper" specifically designed for the
pastelist.
It is a very nice paper and has a lovely velvety texture and it allows you
to apply your colour in layers, it is great for fine detail work, and I
think it would suit your style of painting.
I was wondering if you had tried working with it.
+Roby Baer Thank you,Roby. As soon as I get my paper and myself organised. I will start work on something.I cannot promise you a "Masterpiece"lol.I am only an amature and draw and paint mainly for pleasure. But if I do make anything worthwhile I will send you an example. Thank you very much for your help and kind interest.Best wishes ~ William.
+William Heywood Oh...I'm so glad that you'll be able to obtain the Bristol board. To be specific I'm using the 500 cold press Vellum 10 ply. I hope they'll have that one for you. It doesn't have a lot of visual texture but it's wonderful for pastels and you don't have to fight with the texture of other papers showing through too much. Good luck and send me an example of your work if you like the paper. :)) Roby
+Roby Baer Hello Roby.Thank you so much for your kind reply. It was very helpful. I used to use bristol board some years ago when I was in school art class. We could only, however, get the very smooth type, that was great for pen and ink drawings and conte crayon and I really enjoyed using it. I live in the UK and Bristol board is now hard to obtain in any art supply stores in my locality, so I sort of gave up hope of ever using it again. :-(Happily though, thanks to you, I did a search on Google and managed to find a supplier that stocks three different surface textures of Bristol board in both pads, and separate sheets and various weights too. :-))I am going to order some next week,I am so looking forward to trying them ! :-))Have a great weekend, and thanks again!! ~ William.
Hello William ~ Thank you very much for your comment. Though I have used the velour paper in the distant past and enjoyed it I gravitate to the Strathmore Illustration/Bristol Board 500 series paper. It has a great tooth for my style of painting. I should try more papers but I love the Bristol Board. Thanks again! :)) Roby
