I remember the T-Birds of that vintage had either a 352 or 390 c.i. engine
but I have a few questions: I remember seeing a '60 T-Bird with
3-on-the-tree manual transmission and were any of the '61-'63 years
equipped with a stick shift? and was the Lincoln 430 c.i. an option in
T-Birds? another thing I noticed is that on the '58'60 era, speedometers
went to l40 mph but starting in '61 they only registered up to l20.
+Ross Ewage I believe the automatic was standard from '61 on in the T-Bird and only available trans. Yes, you could get a 430 in some of these Birds. Thanks for checking this one out - Sam
Found one of these today in rural AR. Owner is a hillbilly - knows
basically nothing about the car. I can confirm it is a '63 Landau, 2 Dr.
I cannot ascertain which motor it has. (My mobility is very poor due to
illness - can't crawl around looking for #'s on an engine boss or
whatever). Worse, I am an old-time GM guy - I like many Fords, but know
little about them. I am wondering what the "M CODE" means I keep hearing
about? Anyone know? The car starts, sounds great runs great. Has valve
covers that say "Powered by Ford" and another set in the trunk - sorta
goldish in color that say in block letters - "Thunderbird. Very little
rust is visible except in trunk. 90% is simple, surface, red-oxide. Not
too bad. Paint is a must, little bodywork, brakes all 'round, I would
overhaul engine ride & tranny just for grins, - I'm thinking 15-20K resto.
Is it worth it if I spend 3K for the car? Thanks all. Very cool ride!
+Fred Mertz well, it's been a long time since your post but the M is for Principality of Monaco. That was only in 63. It was a limited edition designed by Princess Grace. They all had the same colors. At a quick glance the '63 has the 3 silver decorations on the door and the script thunderbird on the rear quarter panel. It also has a side body line that turns down at the door. The 61 has 4 long lines stacked as the decorations on the rear quarter panels. The 62 has rear side decorations but they are 3 lined up. They should all be a 290 engine. Are you thinking of selling?
dj33036 - Didn'r work out on the car. Cost to restore was quoted at 35 -45K. Just seemed like too much. I really find that I like these cars a lot. Maybe I will find one that one that's a lot cleaner that can be made into a daily driver for less $$. Thank you for the tutoral.
Vavazelus, it is clear that you are suffering from soVavazelus, it is clear that you are suffering from sort of serious psychiatric disorder. Man, I'm just looking for info about a car. This makes me a "loser" and worse? You know, a lot kids are exposed to what we write here. Think about the example you are setting. Lots of adults find it offensive too.
Fred Mertz, I suspect your full of shit, just a fuck who wants attention and can not rub two nickels together. Your a dime a dozen on Youtube. Loser posters who make shit day in and day out. Tip: lock your lips around the exhaust of a 63 T-bird and DIE!
+dj33036Thanks a million for the info. Color is white vinyl over blue metallic. He says paint original - I have doubts - nothing specific I can point to, just doesn't look like the color I remember from the past. My cousin (now deceased) bought-sold-traded and restored T-Birds near Amarillo, and I have seen the paint color before on an all original car. Correct on this one? Hmm... just not sure.I'm going back - car's still there. I'll grab my mechanic and see how much of your engine information can be confirmed. I would only want car with full-house resto. Cost to restore might exceed value, but I might live with it if not too much. Very nice cars - unique, cool. Looks like something Roy Orbison (who I was exceedingly lucky to know) would drive.
+larry harts they liked the thunderbird on the old Perry Mason show. I have seen a 58, 65, and 62 that were driven by the Paul Drake character. His were always black convertibles that I've seen so far and a white 62 convertible by a defendant side character.
