It's not a "distinction", the process of evolution exists independently from Darwin, who simply wrote about it. That you continue to fail in understanding that shows a considerable cognitive bias on your part.

I'm the one who's laughing. Didn't I call the bible thumping right off the bat? Since YOU bring up evolution, "it" wasn't "written" by any one. Evolution is the change in the heritable traits of a biological population over successive generations. Where science backs up none of the "inspired by God" part of the bible, evolution is fully supported by investigation. I know you're referring to Darwin, but who cares? He wasn't the only one to independently arrive at an understanding of the biological process. I personally favor Alfred Russel Wallace. But beyond that, science has supported and refined our understanding of the process since "On the Origin of Species" came out. Before you even think it, don't start on the "but it's ONLY a theory" argument you've been taught, and look up the actual definition of 'theory'. Evolution in this context is a fact and a theory. It is an incontrovertible fact organisms have changed or evolved over the history of life on Earth. There is no scientific proof to back up your claims, however.

I knew it! Out comes the bible and lets get a thumpin! There are some historical facts places and people mentioned in it, but the mythical stuff if just that. There is no 'proof' the bible is true in the manner you are implying, and the only people maintaining that are creationists, masquerading as 'scientists'. To even approximate a real scientific hypothesis, creationists must start with a repeatedly translated 4th century compilation, pick and choose passages with out care for internal inconsistencies, make huge interpretations, and ignore actual scientific facts. Science is independently verifiable, repeatable, testable and falsifiable. Religions, including Christianity, all fail to measure up to true scientific inquiry. No matter how many times you capitalize the 't' in truth, the bible is just a book written by men, and your god is still a myth.

It's a religious themed thread, and I doubt you wrote truth with a capital "T" for no reason. If it's not "god's truth" you were referring to, then apologies for assuming. +Ithila Except religions are fundamentally intolerant of other viewpoints, rational or not. To use your concepts, my 'passion' lies in discussing/discovering truths, not beliefs. While I thoroughly enjoy reading about myths and mysteries, I do so from the point of rationality. I can enjoy a program on 'decoding the bible' and see the facts and historical figures which are in there, and not take the whole book literally. Which most if not all 'fundie christians' do. I actually find it embarrassing the number of supposedly intelligent people who believe in things like a god, the great flood, giants, miracles and a 6,000 year old Earth. The problem comes in when people with illogical beliefs let those guide their actions and those in power let faith dictate policy we all have to abide. It IS an intellectual failure, when you don't use your intellect. When you opt for faith over facts, you have given up thinking for yourself. The truth is not tolerant, if you think about it. If I believe the world is flat, I am simply wrong, there's no way to soften that blow. If I continue to believe when all evidence proves the contrary, it is the height of intellectual failure. It is wisdom to know you can't teach someone who's faith still out votes their intellect.

While the Bible contains historical facts and figures, IT IS A WORK OF FICTION. Monks, probably in the 3rd or 4th century, gathered the many stories of the time, cherry-picked those versions which met their viewpoint, and threw together the Bible. It is full of internal inconsistencies due to the multiple authors, and, if you get right down to it, does not make sense. It is also a tale of a really horrible 'god' who requires or advocates murder, rape, genocide, infanticide, slavery, incest, child molestation and torture, among other fun things. So any 'offended' folks are following a really screwed up path when you stand back and look at it without the blinders of Christianity.

As far as I'm concerned, God used Dr.Pawson to help me see certain things in Bible and made certain passages interesting to me. God has used his teaching ministry to give me lots of valuable insight into His Word. For that I love God and I love Dr.Pawson. How much of God Dr. Pawson got to view in his earthly life is between Him and God. Who am I to Judge? So I have no problem considering Dr. Pawson my brethren in Christ and respect him for the beautiful work he has done in Christ. Im sure Dr.Pawson will see the face of Christ and known him intimately on that day;no more or no less than you and I will see.
