How to Swim the Freestyle Stroke : How to Breathe while Swimming Freestyle
Breathing properly and at the right time keeps you from tiring quickly during the freestyle stroke, and keeps water out of your mouth and nose. Breath properly ...
For those having trouble exhaling in the water, try these. One method is by
huming, this most people can do. Remember it's trickle breathing meaning
you don't have to force air out of your nose hard, think about releasing it
rather than actually blowing. Also for you beginners, having your mouth
open underwater doesn't mean you will choke, try to get used to going under
the water with a relaxed slightly open jaw. Then add any sort of noise in
and you'll find you'll be blowing bubbles without even realising you
would. These are the main hints I give when i'm teaching.
Hope this helps.
+skedtm you don't choke having your mouth open underwater but you´ll end up getting water inn your mouth. eww! with all those unknown bacteria on the pool, I would rather close my mouth.
If you still have trouble rotating to breath then u still need practicing
on the paddle board. Right side and Left side breathing, MUST. Breathing
every 1,2 or 3 stroke can slow down the momentum stroking to cover the lane
faster. For about 12 days now, ever since learned the basic freestyle, I've
swam 211 lanes. For one lane, should only be 3 to 4 breaths, the rest is
stroking fast. 5 to 8 strokes per breath. But slow swimming is difficult.
A hundred meter lane I meant, I don't know the length of Olympic pools. Slow swimming, I think 3 to 4 breaths per stroke. But its still difficult I reckon. I believe that breathing every 1 stroke shuld lessen the exhaustion. eg Breath then stroke. like phelps does in the Olympics. I think that's how all of them olimpic swimmers swim. Breath after one stroke.
When you say slow swimming is difficult, are you talking in regards to not going all out in stroking fast? Such as a runner going for long distance, a swimmer going at a more slower pace to get more laps? If so how many breaths are normal in more slow, long distance type of swimming? And were you talking about 3-4 breaths for a Olympic style pool?
When swimming try to use the dog paddle to breath and continue regular swimming, it's what I do

)':
I get that she's a beginning swimmer but I think it's unhelpful to have the
demonstration be wrong because new swimmers could develop bad habits if
they don't know what it's supposed to look like.
She is not fine because her technique is off, and if you practice wrong technique for a long time it will be hard to revert to proper technique. So I recommend after watching this video to watch another more advanced one just to get a better image of what proper technique looks like.
Wow i never had formal training / studied swimming and just found out the
3rd technique is something I learned instinctively. Great video very
educational.
Thanks, I need to teach me 12 year old these strokes. Any thoughts?

+Fabi Araujo Try working on a back float first. Here's a link to a video that does a nice job explaining the back float (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sS0PZSrI-GI). Also, I discuss back floats in my “Backstroke for Beginners” video (https://youtu.be/nbG7uKqo2CA). For front floats, head position is very important. Generally, the higher you hold your head, the more your feet will sink. You need to learn to hold your breath and put your face in. My “Preparing Beginning Swimmers for Freestyle” video (https://youtu.be/2XQy3pfniKk) covers floats, as well as glides. I hope this helps. Don’t give up!
+Vandana Suresh While some coaches preach to exhale out your nose, I wouldn't teach a student to inhale exclusively through their nose. Here are some other videos for you to review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OCDRmpS8N5s, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cO-4HzHsAsw, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LLC_xA07taM, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tIbSsad0z9U
+Chris Burton my coach insists that breathing thru mouth is not correct technique and one should inhale thru nose during freestyle swimming. For me it seems practically impossible to inhale thru nose .pls advise
Is it possible to inhale through nose. Bcoz my coach keeps insisting that inhaling through mouth is wrong technique. And it seems impracticable for me to inhale through nose.
Howdy Chris! Even though this video is a year old i am hoping you can help
me out. For some reason when i swim using my side stroke. Instead of
swimming the whole length of the pool in a straight line i tend to veer off
in the direction of my lead shoulder. This happens on my dominate side and
the opposite side, is this happening due to my shoulder failing to be
straight or is there another cause? I hope to hear from some input on this
will very helpful and appreciated.
+Maxwell Havins 1) Check your head position. If you have your head arched back too far or tucked in too much, this could lead you to drift in the direction that your head is pointing. 2) Check your rotation. If you over-roatate towards your back or under-rotate towards your stomach, this could affect your ability to swim straight as well.
How to Swim : How to Swim the Butterfly Stroke
The butterfly stoke is one of the most rhythmic swimming strokes and can be broken down into the kick and the stroke with the arms. Swim the butterfly stroke ...
Are you a club swimmer? The kicks start from the chest is for club
swimmers. I teach my students the kicks start from the hips. When they
progress to stage 10 (ASA UK standard - pre- club swimmers), I teach them
starting from the abs and the lower back (the core muscle). I never tell
people to start from the chest. It has to be done with how you breath as
well. Timing and everything has to be perfect. It is very hard.
i can swim too and im here to feel better because I feel bad that I can't
play football or anything involving a ball (well i have not tried football
but im pretty sure im not good at it) so ppl at my school think they are
superior for being good at it but most of them don't know how to swim so i
feel better xD i know i sound crazy but i really feel bad :( i'll have p.e
next semester so im going to be embarrased
We have to think about how to develop a swimmer from a "train to train",
"train to compete" to "train to win" levels. My knowledge is up to train to
win level. Lastly, the guy also did a good job by starting his kicks from
his hips on the video. So, he said this, he did it. Good demon! Even
though, I don't like his kicks, he demonstrates it correctly for beginners.
I think he does a good job.
@ayzhdizzle Arrington ya you are thinking of the right kick :) it starts in
your abs and back muscles and flows down your body, when at race pace your
kicks will be medium with your toes braking the surface when you recoil
your legs. I think his kicks were just really exadurated just to help
people learn how to do it :)
yup, i think it really helps. i am getting better at timing my gaseous
releases with my kicks and my lap times are improving. i found that instead
of beans, the best combination is single malt scotch and braised squash
(eggplant, zuccini) - that makes for the most gaseous releases
The scissor kick. Thats what you use for backstroke and freestyle. Dolphin
can be used for the beginning of freestyle and backstroke but when you come
out, you must be doing scissor kick. In breaststroke, doing dolphin kicks
is illegal. You use dolphin for all of fly.
Thank you. I've been swimming 3-4X a week now for several months and
finally have enough strength to attempt the butterfly, but it was so
awkward. It's been so long that I'd forgotten how. So that's why I'm here,
to relearn how to do the butterfly.
my arm used to be weak, until i done my exercise at gym center for a period
of time, now i feel my arms power is getting bigger, i can try the
butterfly stroke, but still long steps to be done to be able to perfect the
style.
Don't worry I'm already 20 (and almost drowned thrice) and I learned to
swim breast stroke, freestyle and backstroke in 2 months with a proper
coach. Moving on to the butterfly now (which is why I'm here, of course)!
Good Lord... I've been doing competitive swimming for 9 years, almost 10. I
had to substitute when our butterfly swimmer got sick & missed a meet...
I've never had a more humiliating experience in my life. o.O
I got taught my Michael Phelps to swim butterfly at his practices , and im
not lying , he taught me and 15 other people how to swim , im training for
the U.S. Olympic team im 16 years old.
I have a semester long class... they taught us this one weeks ago. I can't
get it!! I'm sure I look like a flailing fish, but two kicks for each
stroke... this might help me.
would farting in rhythm with the kick give you some additional propulsion?
i got the kick and the arm motion down, now just trying to time my farts to
help push me along
u just swim, lol, don't try this style yet if u don't know how to swim,
this is the most advance and hardest style to learn it should be the last
one to learn
this guy is wrong you dont start the kick with the hips you start with the
chest and the kicks arnt suppoed to be big they are suppoed to be mall and
fast.
ugghh this looks so hard!! D: ..im trying out for the swim team at my
highschool and they said u need to know how to do all 4 strokes...im so
screwd :(
