Yes, they have a muffler insert...baffles. I wanted nice and quiet while
putting through the neighborhooh, but when you mash the gas they wake right
up. Real nice header, can't say enough good things about them and
XS-Power's customer service.
RADICAL 454 BIG BLOCK CHEVY START UP ~ NASTY CAM ~ OPEN HEADERS ~ LOUD EXHAUST -
Well the 454 "Ratrod Engine" ended up in the "FREAKINEAGLE". It will make a sweet cruiser that runs on 87 Octane gas. It will be for sale. You can inbox me for ...
I understand where you are coming from lakenorman! I recently put together
a 350 that was punched 0.060 had a 3.50 stroke crank and a 6in rod and the
guys that machined all my stuff told me that the rod length was of no gain
in cubic inches before I was told how it works I asked how much more cubes
would I get using the 6 in rod and they were like "It's gonna be 360-362
regardless of rod length" Was told that the cubes are coming from the crank
and bore and with a dome of 100ths and a 62cc head
With a 532/524lift and 298/292advertised duration solid lift cam with 1.5
and 1.6 rockers I had to run cam2 If not it would ping and rattle you to
death! I was told that with the same piston and heads if I had not used the
longer stroke and rod it would have been on the edge of running racing fuel
with around 10.1 compression so that should tell some that it doesn't take
much to put yourself in a weekend warrior only unless your pockets are deep
with gas$ I had to sell car cause of that error
@smoppins7374 thats not far off from what this engine is. factory oval
ports will starve a big 489 or 496 on top but will make a boat load of
torque which is perfect, especially in a big impala. the xe274 is a great
all-around cam- sound nice, make a lot of midrange power, and should rev to
5500 or so in a 489. Run a dual plane intake like a performer rpm, 750 or
800 holley and a good header- it will pull a house down! (This car will
turn sideways @40mph, even with wimpy 3.42 gears)
DZ- think about this- for example a 350 chevy.....3.48 stroke and a 5.7
inch rod. If you go to, lets say, a 6 inch rod, the piston will now be .300
higher in the block at the top of the stroke........it will also be .300
higher at the bottom of the stroke......therefore you have gained
nothing......3.48 is 3.48 TDC to BDC, even if you had 4 foot long
connecting rod. Not trying to be a smartass man, just rying to explain it
better. ONLY the crank determines stroke.
@crushher1 its a customer/friends car. 69 SS396 car. car is pretty much
stock. 489CI big block stroker, forged pistons, 10:1, scat crank and rods,
comp mutha thumpr hyd. roller cam, comp. roller rockers, GM oval port heads
with big valves and pocket ported, hooker headers, (now) single plane
intake, 825 demon double pumper carb, modified HEI ignition. full 3"
magnaflow exhaust with x pipe. th400 trans with ATI 3500 converter, 12 bolt
rear, 3.42 posi.
exactly! Believe it or not, if your parts are matched properly (heads, cam,
intake, etc...) you dont need a ton of compression to make good power.
Compresion increases are normally done to offset the late closing intake
with a major cam. Its all about cylinder pressure! small cam + 10:1 = race
gas, but ive built many 11:1 engines that ran fine on pump gas......they
had nasty cams in them!
are you running dart aluminum heads or Iron eagles? 10:1 should be fine
with iron heads- especially if that solid cam is a decent size. If youre
running aluminum heads, you could almost run 87 octane at 10:1 LOL. (im
building a pump gas 496 for my own car right now......aluminum heads, BIG
solid flat tappet cam, and 11:1- 93 octane will be fine in it)
@smoppins7374 This one has scat 4340 I beams with capscrews and I still had
to do a little clearancing. All the stroked BBCs ive built have needed at
least a little grinding on the bottom of the cylinders to clear. its not a
bad job, just take your time, and dont go any deeper than
necessary.....hitting water will ruin your day.
youre absolutely right...it would raise your compression, but you still
have to change pistons with a higher wrist pin location when you run a
longer rod.....deck height will limit you, depending on engine type and its
factory deck height. Most are .020-.060 'in the hole' and that much added
to a rod will do nothing for power.
lol. Glad to hear you had good luck with them. I had high hopes beause it
was a crate carburetor to.. Ended up with a edelbrock 1406 which has given
me almost 30 extra miles in a tank over the Demon. Your chevelle sounds
beast! Always fun starting a engine with open headers. Should get a cutout
for it.
Boring is making the cylinder larger, and stroke is how far up/down it
moves. It can be fairly expensive to get a block machined, but instead of
incresing the bore, you could always increase the stroke, which may or may
not be more expensive. (Never looked into it, as I'm 17 and can't afford
either.)
Just the manifolds, no exhaust pipe going down towards the back. Althought
it can burn exhaust valves because it's sucking so much cold air when the
valves are boiling hot. It's the same thing with windows. If its -30
outside and windows get instant heat they will shatter at a certain temp.
everyone at my high school is crazy about getting the new camaro, or that
stupid import shit, or the 350z. the new camaro is okay, but im the only
only one there thats drivin up in black 79 trans am. no matter what people
say, mine is better than all of theirs.
yes u do you can buy what they call electric cutouts and you can have full
exaust system with open headers google does a bad job on explaining
this..try like patriot exuast cutout there a company that makes what im
trying to explain but more in depth
@trunk516 I know someone with a chevy 572 Ci and i know someone with two
~30CF(Cubic Feet) engines they do make bigger engines than what you may
find in your aunts prius its just that most of these are used in something
other than personal vehicles
