Were you fined for the damage or you bought the car?
Intense Hail Storm- Kearney, NE June 4th, 2008
This was an unexpected end, to a very uneventful chase day overall. Dave Lewison and I pulled into the 1st Interstate Inn around 10pm that evening after filming ...
@Mr2505federal Well, yes and no. That is what extreme weather photographers
do, we document severe weather. But as far as my vehicle, I was underneath
an overhang while documenting this storm. Didn't receive hardly any dents
at all. My 2004 Nissan Xterra however bears many dents, but I purchased it
for storm chasing and have no problem with the dents. What's more important
to me is how it runs, and I always make sure to bring it in for servicing
every few months.
@kimy9187 Yikes!!! Sorry to hear that! Yes, there was a lot of damage from
this one for sure. There was a Cadillac dealship next to our hotel that had
many of the cars in the lot trashed too!
@vmax135 Thanks guys! Glad you enjoyed! And I have to say, I did get used
to driving the old PT after a while, lol. It could move pretty quick when
it wanted too!

Record Hail Damage in Seminole
Neighbors in Seminole say, almost everyone in town was impacted in some way by the storms last month. We spoke with one local auto repair shop who says, ...
(Part 1)Hail Storm while visiting South Dakota, see part 2!!
My friends and I just got off motorcycles and into a rental car before the sky turned black with no warning. Along with the hail storm there was a tornado.
Absolutely!!! From now on, I will Never think twice. This brand new rental
car was TOTALLED in the end. The windows and brake light covers were
busted, even the speakers in the rear window were busted. I had a "hail" of
an experience but care not to do it again. I kept filming (Parts 2,3,4) so
my family would know what happened to me if they found our bodies in a far
away field when that tornado carried us away. I thought it was my last day!
Cruising through bad hail in a rental car!!! Filmed in Cortez AZ. Notice the cars pulled off the side of the highway. A few cars had broken wind shields! But not us!

need bulletproof shields on those stormchaser vehicles. or at least a wire
guard of some kind to bounce the ice off. but all the windows need to be
bulletproof.
+Jackal i thought of a metal net if one chose not to install bulletproof glass to save money but if the windows were not bulletproofed too then metal shields would require being bolted onto the metal which may not be so practical if yer in an accident ad maybe not so cosmetically pleasing. you can't get out. if you rolled over on an icy road and needed to get out a window at least you could roll down the glass hopefully but then you'd have killer hail out there too, or at least seriously bruising. but better bruised than burned alive. no way yer punching thru a bulletproof windshield to escape. there are the back doors in the van but what if the equipment blocks the front passengers escape route? most large hail tends to fall straight down mostly but even a big chunk falling at a slight angle could bust a side window. most are brittle safety glass that breaks easily. so better to install roll down bulletproof glass with no net in case of an emergency. plus no net makes for a clear view when recording. these guys film bad weather thru the windows. can't have anything in the way, ya know?
+Jackal aaaaaaaand to keep the widows from being destroyed, having a clear view, not having to replace the windows and not have damage to equipment inside or injury to passengers yer suggestion would beeee...? traveling at free fall speed something like a 1/4 pound hunk of ice can feel like 5 lbs if it hits something. big enuf it can kill you. if i were a storm chaser i'd pay for bulletproof windows myself for the van i'd take into crap like that. you never know what will happen especially now with all the HAARP-borne superstorms. better to have them and not need them than to need them and not have them.
