America the Beautiful 2: The Thin Commandments
A new documentary by Darryl Roberts that explores why we have an unhealthy obsession with dieting in America and who benefits from selling us the thin is ...
There's only a few bright spots in this movie: the diet industry's
influence in gvmt. policy/lobying, etc. The rest (95%) of this movie sucks.
It's 100% fat acceptance. They cherry-picked one fat girl who could dance.
Who cares. The fact that each year American's get fatter and fatter. The
food we're eating is less nutritious than ever. The current lifestyle of
living on the computer/game consoles will doom us. I'll take Candi or Jenn
S.over Ragen any day. Jenn is HOTT!!!! Darryl needs the help
I agree but I do disagree with you on the fact that this movie is
disgusting. You don't get the point of the movie at all. A thin person can
be just as unhealthy as a fat person. How come fat people get all the
hate? This video is about eating disorders, fad diet that don't work, and .
Not being an healthy weight. It's not right that this society is so focus
on weight all the freaking time. You're the one that is disgusting. P.S.
BMI is a horrible tool. They don't take musle in consideratin.
I think a lot of commenters are missing the point of this video. It isnt
about fat acceptance or the perfect body. It's about learning to love the
body you have. Once you start doing this, treating your body with dignity
and giving it what it needs, your health will fall into place. The diet
industry wants us to believe they have the solution to our ills ($), while
at the same time our food industry is run by monocorporations that could
care less about your health. Thin isnt everything...
I have never been overweight in my life. I was a low normal weight,
healthy, active, and didn't think about dieting from my 20's until my early
thirties. Then a traumatic event happened to me in 2005. Somehow I began to
obsess about my body and weight and I fell into the diet craze. All I heard
on the news, magazines, at work, everywhere, was talk about how to lose
weight. I became severely anorexic and six years later I still battle with
it, now with osteoporosis in my late thirties.
TinaTiny I don't think you read my comment. You want people to look at the
scale 20 times a day. Skinny people can be just as unhealthy than fat
people and you know it. I do mean may not. Just a warning to you, nobody
likes a judgemental brat like you. Support eating disorders. I did read
your comment and I'm trying to say losing weight shouldn't be the main
focus on health but eating healthy and exercising should be the focus not
what is on the scale. I'm not the stupid one you are.
When I see this the previews of this I think of my shopping experiences
here in midwest America. As I walk through the Deli dept , snacks and soda
isles, frozen food and ice cream isles I'm literally bumping into people to
get to the other side of the isle. When I walk through the raw fruits and
veggies department I'm in a virtual no mans land and you can hear a
friggin' pin drop.
It may not be healthy being overweight. If you start loving you body these
things will happen. 1. You get off your butt. 2. You'll starting making
healthier choices. Healthier foods, exercise etc. 3. If you need to lose
weight. You'll lose the weight, 4.Everything will start falling into place.
If you hate your body, you'll either stay overweight or develop an eating
disorder.
@Naturebound I wish I had never fallen into this obsession with weight loss
and dieting. Once you are pulled in its impossibly hard to let go of. You
are reminded of it daily around every corner and everyone is talking about
losing weight. And in your mind, even when you are 89 lbs and 5'6" you will
always be too fat. Even when you exercise 2 hours a day it won't be enough.
I get what their saying, but it is not ok to be fat, and I'm not saying
that to be snobby. If you have health problems because of your weight, then
you should lose it-- enough to where you're at a healthy weight. Not
conforming to beauty standards is not an excuse to except being over
weight, that's stupid and unhealthy.
Perhaps just being sedentary is bad for you? The documentary shows a
handful of overweight people who also exercise, and though they were
overweight, they had no other health issues. It is the sedentary fat people
who are suffering from everything. Maybe, I'm no doctor but this is what I
observed in the documentary.
BMI is obviously a bad indicator of overall health as MUSCLE weighs more
than FAT --- however this is horrible, do not encourage people to be happy
about being fat. It is disgusting and get off your lazy asses, hit the gym,
eat some REAL food and cut out the soda.
Are you kidding me? It is not ok to be fat! You need to eat healthy and
maintain a healthy weight. I don't believe in "diets", what I do believe in
is maintaining a healthy weight through diet and yes THIN is healthy fat is
not..this movie is disgusting!
i would love to be involved with this...as a recovered anorexic i would be
happy to help in anyway i can! ive found most my healing in my
hoopdance..check out my hula hoop videos on my page. yall are doing great
things!
@bluevviolet In their web site it states they will host views of the film
in Oct, Nov, Dec and then throughout 2012. Will be available for download
in the end of 2012 and the beginning of 2013. Again look up their site.
@iampoopman there actually is a political group that educates that fat
should be acceptable and those that are fat are not dirty, disgusting
individuals. Well... we have that in Canada, but no one listens to them.
Ever heard of ketosis? I don't know about any "industries" but ketosis
isn't a set plan. It's a plan of basically when to eat and how much.
Doesn't restrict you from anything that isn't junk food though.
@LadyBludgeon Google's not being helpful, I'm getting nothing for a website
for America the Beautiful 2, and the website for American the Beautiful has
no updates about the second movie. Got a link?
Looking forward to today's premiere in San Jose, CA. Went to the screening
while volunteering with the Eating Disorders Resource Center a while back.
Truly a hit! A must see for our youth! .
Rediculous being overweight is not healthy! Diabetes, heart disease not to
mention a slew of other disorders are bought on by obesity. It is not in
anyone's benefit to be overweight.
Loving yourself is most important thin fat who cares...our shape and size
say little about the person :) and agreed with many here there is no magic
solution!!
There is no "may not," it isn't. Learn to read, I never said that's what
the movie is about. An d you basically expanded on what I was saying, so
thanks.
