I live in Mexico and ugh sometimes it really sucks. the culture here is: "THERE GONNA KILL A COW FOR CHRISTMAS AND YOU CANT HAVE ANY" ... there's family farms every where and yea... there's also a good side though I'm glad to have my supportive canist mom she usually makes me 1000 diffrent ways to have soups beans rice potatoes ect... I was surprised to see soy meat and milk here though my mom is planning to make me hamburgers out of soy chunks and there is this brand called andes they usually make dairy free drinks next time we go to central we will look for the frape flavor/strawberry milk

I am from Bangladesh and I am Vegan. Anyone who says Vegan is expensive have never visited a third world/developing country. Rice, lentils, potatos, vegetables are the cheapest foods. Certain fruits are also very very cheap. The Poor people in our country those who live in the slums live on rice and lentils. Everyone always Must remember fake meats, cheese etc are a luxury and not at all needed to be Vegan. In Bangladesh we don't get any fake meat/seitan/vegan mayonise/Vegan cheese as of yet. We get Tofu, soy nugget thats it. We get Soy Milk,Coconut Milk in superstores, but no Almond Milk/Cashew Milk yet, I make them at home. I sometimes eat tofu & soy nugget, but that's occationally and my regular meals are simply rice, ruti, veg curries, potatos, all kind of dishes made from veggies, lentils, fruits etc I also eat pasta, rice noodles, vegan burgers, veg rolls, vegan pizza (I /my mom makes the pizza at home, we don't get any vegan pizza on the shops yet) etc If you really care for the animals, it is possible to be Vegan anywhere.

I am also from Venezuela, but the story that these girls make is beyond veganism. Yes, inflation is high, but raw vegan food is very cheap and needs no rationing. People can buy fresh products without rationing. Sure, beans are scare, but for vegans, that shouldn't be a staple anyway. Also, the rationing that they mention is irrelevant, like they ended up agreeing. So the point is, at the end, you can be vegan no matter the political distress and sometimes, it could even push people to reconsider their food choices. Our county is very similar to Argentina or Texas, where cattle owning and meat eating is a staple of status and culture. Particularly for me, food rationing was one of the issues that actually pushed me to reconsider food as a heavy meat eater/carnist.
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-q8hxof5ix4A/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAABA/FnExq8wzVoE/photo.jpg?sz=64
The other thing is that the story they mentioned about them going to a restaurant and the chef being all polite, it is not a common example. If you are really poor, on a budget, people would not know what veganism is, nor really respect your food choices, or at least they would give you a hard look.

THE STRUGGLES!! I went to a family members house a few days ago. They didn't know I was vegan because I went vegan about a month ago. LITERALLY nothing was vegan. There was turkey, a rice dish that had milk added to it, mashed potatoes that had butter and milk, a cheese and meat platter, chicken salad, deviled eggs, mushrooms with cheese, ect. So I was just awkwardly sitting at the table and drinking water. At least there was water lol.

+Ariadna111 I think you have no right to complain or even think about complaining. Although, I would love people to be vegan or at least eat more vegan dishes, people have their habits. If someone makes mashed potatoes with milk then that's how they do it. You didn't tell them you were vegan and now you complain there was nothing to eat. You are the only one to blame. You should have asked, mentioned or have brought your own food. If someone is allergic to gluten but they don't tell me, they can't expect me to cook gluten-free.You have earned your struggle... live with it. Ps. The only time I could understand complaining about no-vegan options is when you go to a food establishment as they should be prepared for various options. Unless it is a steak house... but why would you go there anyway?

good video as always Emily! personally i never had a bigger problem staying vegan during christmas as many of the traditional christmas recipies where im from are vegan! we also dont consume any meat during christmas as there were animals present when jesus was born. makes sense. the only problem are cakes or egg and fish products in salads but that's easy to substitute or avoid :)

+Tefans97 I'm from Poland although I know that the dishes vary throughout the country. I'm lucky to be from the north*Szczecin* where our main dish served consists of dumplings with mushroom&cabbage filling in beetroot soup*all vegan!* other dishes are meatless as I mentioned, apart from the poor fish :( Even our desserts like sweet wheat berries poppy seed and pasta based dessert is simply made vegan by using dairy free milk and swaping honey.I reside in UK now and when I look at the english tradional food including turkey and all these awful cakes...I feel so lucky as a vegan.

I have found that people usually respond to your energy. When I tell people at social gatherings, I say it with confidence and hold my head high. But I don't get confrontational. If they are asking questions respectfully, I'll answer them (I have memorized all my McDougall, Gregor, and Yourofsky comebacks). If they get pushy, I say "Hey, let's change the subject."

'The body runs on carbs'? Actually, its a balance of many things... but yes energy production from CHOs, ie ATP synthesis from glucose, is the most sustainable and least draining (energy is needed to create energy) UNLESS the diet makes blood sugar too high, eg too much fruit, in which case the body has to use loads more energy to regulate via extra Insulin production which increases the strain on the pancreas (making the insulin) and liver (where much of the glycogen is stored). Balance is key.
https://gp5.googleusercontent.com/-5U6HzHGVwak/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/L7V5Q-D3DHo/s48-c-k-no/photo.jpg?sz=64
'no purpose beyond calories'? Fat/Protein are needed for bodily functions; including cell, immune system and hormone production to cardiovascular, psychological and other anatomical health (joints and muscles in growth) Meat's vitamin, mineral and trace element content does tend to be smaller and more oxidized but it has a higher bioavailibility (digestibility) see heam and non-heam iron for example. Balancing our views, diet and lifestyle continues the cycle of life by which we were created.

Just for clarity... his finger is bent from an accident he had as a gymnast where he landed wrong and tore the ligament. He does not have arthritis. One of his fitness classes is ample to demonstrate this. His pinky has been bent this way since he was a teenager. Say what you want about a fruit diet, we hear it all the time. Our athletes are still breaking personal records, so sticks and stones. But please don't make assumptions you have no proof of You simply start gossip.

I encourage you to view the video titled, "Can 80/10/10 Include Cooked Food?" It was recorded over 3 years ago, and clearly shows Dr. Graham position, which is one of openness and inclusion. As for making clear what is the most optimal diet for humans, Dr. Graham is quite clear that fruits and vegetables are ideal. Therefore, he points out the detrimental issues involved in the consumption of grains, potatoes, and rice, etc. Hope that helps clear the air a bit.
https://gp4.googleusercontent.com/-XoDiR-vSLQE/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/aso93Iy8npA/s48-c-k-no/photo.jpg?sz=64
I would respect Dr.Graham more if he didn't go to great lengths to demonize starches such as wholegrains, potatoes and corn and in doing so, spitting in the face of Dr McDougall, Dr. Klaper, Dr Greger and others. I'm sorry to say but the vast majority of adherernts to the fatphobic 8/1/1 raw vegan diet look like death warmed over, Dr. Doug included. In fact, as a compassionate vegan myself, I do everything I can to distance myself from your crowd.

"too much fruit" is the mindset of the "4 food group" mentality. We're not meant for grains beans and meat. If we eat those, the body converts them into simple carbs anyway and releases them into the bloodstream. The body need a certain amount of glucose, and the pancreas exists to help with insulin. The protein industry makes this sound bad.(to sell their stuff), but it's normal bodily functioning. And our tests and results are good.

Hi, I live in Norway, is it possible to get the book shipped here? I'm very interested in living the best lifestyle possible as God designed it this way, fruits and seeds was the diet in the garden of Eden according to the Bible and vegetables were added after the fall. Anyway, I will go for this diet as soon as I get a new salary :) Thanks for opening up my eyes that had slowly closed and I was almost in a complete stupor.
https://gp3.googleusercontent.com/-vLMm_hL9xr0/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/Ue9rG0RtuAM/s48-c-k-no/photo.jpg?sz=64
Can you give me a tip on how to eat just quickly so I can get a head start? Is there dangers to malnutrition if I eat limited variation, north of Norway is not to lush with vegetables or fruit this time of year. How should I transition? (Currently just following dietary laws, eating clean meat..) But I want to make a change for the best and for the long haul. Anyway God bless you guys and keep up the good work!

This clears up nothing. Only reaffirms that Doug Graham and those who follow him are, while their heart may be in a good space to a large degree, are still very misinformed, dishonest and outright wrong. There is nothing open and inclusive about claiming potatoes, grains and rice can have a negative impact on a persons health, and I question your audacity to claim FnS accepts other plant based modalities.
https://i1.ytimg.com/i/7MfPjj2abBFqH2zJyblEfg/1.jpg?sz=64
I eat a raw food diet, but I have a hard time believing 8-1-1 is actually sufficient long-term. Look at him, I would NOT want to look like him. He's got arthritis with one of the fingers on his right hand bent the wrong way from arthritis. The raw diet WORKS, but not 80% fruit in the long-term. My 2 cents.
https://gp4.googleusercontent.com/-nNsJ3ekBZhU/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/OLC7mKJcWgI/s48-c-k-no/photo.jpg?sz=64
It was only a matter of time before someone attempted to use his FINGER against the way he eats. LOL People will use ANYTHING! If you listened to more of him and Ornish, McDougal, etc, you'd have more than 2 cents. The body runs on carbs. NOTHING else is "actually sufficient long-term".
https://gp4.googleusercontent.com/-Q35ps0eQR4U/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/WT5E6exb8s4/s48-c-k-no/photo.jpg?sz=64
@andriante Meat is fat and protein. After you cook it, the vitamins and other nutrients that are in it pale in comparison to the content of fruits and vegetables. So no, meat serves no purpose beyond calories, even if our bodies were made to eat it.

+jake uno. B12 is a vitamin not a mineral. It contains the mineral cobalt, but is definitely a vitamin. It can be found in most animal products, because, like us it is found in their tissues. It has been found in Nori (a type of seaweed) but it really isn't a reliable source. It is also found in many fortified foods. Some great info on it here - //nutritionstudies.org/12-questions-answered-regarding-vitamin-b12/ Thanks for the question and the support!

Thanks.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64
b12 is naturally derived mineral that is created by bacteria. the mineral is responsible for the central nervous system, brain, and the blood. consult your doctor to see if youre deficient in deciding to take b12 supplement. in most case its an exaggerated fear that vegans and vegetarians have. there are far more ppl who are b12 deficient who consume meat then those who arent. it still needs more study.
