@oldwatchman, Well I sort of agee with you except that the oil lines that
the heads and cams are smaller than the lines for the oil filter relocation
kit. If for some reason the oil lines to the filter are blocked, the oil
does not get filtered, that's it. What would happen if we did not install
the kit and did not install a filter, just replaced the cover. Would you
have some excess pressure causing failure. No I don't think so. So now
instead of the cover you have a divertor. Same oil pressure
I love my relocation kit. I haven't had any problem. I didn't realize how
hard changing the oil would be without it, or I would have found another
bike. But, because I already purchased the bike- I added the relocation kit
after the warranty was up. I don't buy into scare tactics easily and I
haven't had any problems. The kit though, as most after market, doesn't
stay nice and shiny. If you like another bike, and don't like the idea of
dropping the exhaust every time, don't purchase this one.
@burtonblunt92 The V-Star's oil system is under pressure, It has a pressure
relief valve and a constant velocity oil pump. Also the oil goes to the
cams right from the oil filter inside the engine. With the ORK it goes out
to the external filter first under very small lines at high pressure. It's
been studied and the only 2 V-Star engine failures I know of had an ORK on
it. I have a V-Star 1100 classic, it's a great bike but everything about
maintaining it is a PITA so what's a little more?
@burtonblunt92 I'm not a dealer. I own a 1100 Silverado Classic that's
loaded with Yamaha extras. Most dealers will gladly sell you one of these
bogus oil leakers and then sell you a new engine. The 1/8" holes in the
diverter plate equate to a nearly 400% reduction in cross sectional area
over the main oil galleries that are by-passed by the relocation kit. You
are much better served using the best synthetic oil and changing the stock
filter and oil once a year, and removing the exhaust.
The oil system on a v star is not under pressure so not all the oil goes
through the filter. Only part of the oil is sent to the filter and the rest
goes to the engine. I believe it is called a sampling system. So it does
not matter how much is filtered, eventually all the oil will be filtered.
As long as you use a good quality oil there should be no problem and it is
going to save you a lot of time and money.
I've been wanting to get this item ever since I got new cobra pipes for my
bike (cobra only took into effect that owners would be putting them on, not
taking them off for oil changes). Anyhow I've seen this on cruiser
customizing and didn't know if it would be worth it, but this video did a
great job showing me how it will work! Thanks guys!
Good video. NOTE:-- If you are going to put in an ORK AND you have
aftermarket pipes BEWARE of the the limited amount of space you may have to
work with as my Cobra Pipes required me to lower the brake fluid reservoir
creating issues with mounting the filter. I rigged it up but still need to
find a permanent solution.
Thanks again for an informative video. As a result of watching your video I
have purchased a ORK and will install it myself in a few days. You guys
gave me the know how and confidence to attempt it. Its times like this that
people like you who take the time to create the video make it so
worthwhile. [email protected]
One thing I noticed is when you installed the divertor you should have
passed it behind the frame before installing it. This way you don't stress
the fittings or kink the lines when you install the filter holder in front
of the starter. Also Baron sells a T.O.R.K. cover that just finishes the
job really nice.
I agree. I, too, didn't realize the hassle it would be to change the oil
before purchasing the bike. The relocation kit is a must but it doesn't
stay looking so nice after a while. Not bad, but just not as pretty as the
rest of the chrome. Similar to the spots on the handle bars that can't be
reached easily.
good job but, before you put the oil inverter on the bike screw the oil
filter on and slide the inverter through the back side of cross bar and it
will save you some time and it won't put any stress on the oil cables. make
sure you put the crush washer back on so it don't leak.
Thanks. We are not mechanics at all and just wanted to film what we were
doing to share. I always like to see the lay-man approach before doing
something new. Not perfect but it worked for us and is still going great!
These kits are as controversial as they are convenient. The inside diameter
of the external oil hoses is 4 times smaller than the oil passages in the
V-Star engine. Use at your own risk.
Fantastic video. You enabled me to do my first oil change on my bike with
confidence. I watched your video several times. Thanks for putting it on
YouTube.

Nice Bike. I just bought a used one off a friend tonight. It definitely
does not have the same paint job, but hopefully I can soon fix that. Your
bags, do they leak? My son bought a pair of leather bags, but every time it
rained they got wet inside. I am looking for some for myself. As a woman, i
always have stuff going with me somewhere. :)

Yamaha Vstar 650 Classic: Stock Pipe Mod vs. Cobra Drag Pipes
Picked up some new Cobra Drag pipes for the Vstar for $50. I then found out the hard way that there is a california model and a non california model of these ...
Custom versions or going to have "cut" fenders and foot pegs. Classic
versions are going to have swept fenders like the one in the video and
floorboards instead of pegs. If you're going for a v-star try to get a 2000
or higher. I've had both a 2001 and 2004, both 1100 models. Shoot for an
1100. More passing power and a great sound after taking the stock vacuum
cleaner exhaust off.
Watching all these videos... it's killing me. I need a bike badly... Had an
86 XV1000 for sale a couple towns over. Called the guy, and scheduled a
meet up to buy it. When I got there he had already sold it. It was the only
bike in my area in my price range. Need a bike...

Good sound. Great whites!! Anybody like Vance and Hines? Just got my
Classic 650, looking for good pipes. V and H has their Cruzer pipe, is
Cobra better?
I no longer own this bike but it was an awesome ride :-) Here is a link to a video I used to help with the install - //www.youtube.com/watch?v=U-53yVnOOnA It ...
What seat is it on this bike? I didn't hear it mentioned in the video and
I don't see one with that stitching in the crotch area offered on your
site.
+Sean Baker Hi Sean, that is the old La Rosa seats we used to sell before we started making our own. Let us know what else we can help you with. Have a great day! BCB
